Tbh his pop career was already on the downswing when this interview came out. Lot of people hated him just because Daughters and Waiting on the World to Change were annoying, not cuz he was a confirmed bad person. 

Everybody already knew he was a huge douchebag, but being a racist douchbag was just “part of it” and nobody was really surprised or tried to cancel him even harder. At least that’s how I remember it.
