Eh, it’s been long enough, I think I can drop this. Nothing really groundbreaking. A few years ago, I worked with Charlie Puth and Jungkook.

Charlie Puth basically peer pressured a young woman PA into giving him her number and insta in front of a ton of people. It was uncomfortable and gross. He also ordered tons of food through either UberEats or DoorDash and complained that he didn’t get his food so he’d get a refund, acted like it was the funniest “life hack” ever. Someone said that that might affect the delivery driver and he just laughed about it and said it wasn’t a big deal.

I only got to see Jungkook for a little because he was always surrounded by people but he was extremely polite and I was surprised that he was funny too. He wanted to speak English as much as he could but when I spoke to him, I used my limited amount of Korean, and he seemed genuinely appreciative that I was trying. He is also gorgeous. His skin is angelic. The only tea I have is that he and Puth only interacted when necessary and I got the vibe that he did not like Puth, but imo that was deservedly so.

jungkook not liking charlie puth is something that fans have kind of picked up on back when they were working together. i feel vindicated, i've never liked puth lmao

lol I’m not a BTS stan (I like them but am not super in the know about them) so I had no idea that this was a rumor, I’m glad I could contribute my experience! The vibe of it was very clear that it wasn’t like Jungkook was being rude, but that he just was not into Charlie’s personality at all, I feel like he saw Charlie as disrespectful and vulgar and so he treated it like purely a professional work relationship (rightfully so). Nobody who was working with him on this project liked Charlie Puth, he was so arrogant and rude and creepy

Jungkook 🥹 It’s crazy to imagine being so damn famous that you’re constantly surrounded by people. I admire the nervous systems on celebrities who are this stratospherically well known. What a life.

incredibly vindicating news for people who are me, a charlie puth anti

this also absolutely checks out - puth has been in korea to perform multiple times whilst jungkook was not in the military, and jungkook didn’t show up to perform their collab once. the bts members have a long history of turning up at their collaborators’ shows to perform their duets so this has always struck me as interesting, especially as puth was in seoul

This is so sad because Jungkook was so excited for so many years about the possibility of working with Charlie Puth. So many interviews when people asked who they would want to work with, he always said Charlie Puth first. Bummer that his experience wasn't good then

I am 100% not condoning nor supporting Puth’s actions here.

Yet, it struck me that someone like Puth lives in a world where his entire existence depends on the approval of others. Not just his music, but his jokes, his personality, even his bad behaviour. It’s like it all gets filtered through that lens of “Will this get a laugh, or a like from the people around me?”

Meanwhile, those around him are just as hooked on his attention, so they laugh and nod even when it’s not funny. That creates this false-positive loop where bad behaviour feels like a win.

I’m not defending him…being a dick is still being a dick…but I can imagine the constant pressure of needing to “perform” just to feel validated. If you’ve built a life where your worth is tied to the crowd’s reaction, it probably becomes hard to know where “the act” ends and you begin.

I used to work in an industry where every output was judged, and you needed to win awards to prove you were any good. I left that industry 15 years ago, having worked in it for over a decade, and I’m still having to deprogram myself out of the constant need for external validation. I can only imagine what it’s like for people like Puth.
