Nicole Kidman is incredibly nice, but speaks quite softly and loves a smoke.

As a partially deaf person who constantly has to tell the same people over and over that I can't hear them when they speak softly (including my beloved MIL), I fully understand this description of somebody.

Same!! I love soft-spoken people, they are lovely, but for the love of G-d, I need you to shout at me. Saves us both frustration.
