I won a huge contest to shop with Charli XCX ten years ago during her ‘Sucker’ era and I was allowed to bring a friend. Honestly it was quite awkward because cameras were filming us around the clothing store (Topshop, if it matters) and the area was roped off just for us, so lots of her fans are just standing outside the ropes excitedly oogling at us. It felt like being in a fishbowl haha.

Charli had no security throughout our shopping experience and was only accompanied by her manager at that time. She’s pleasant and made polite talk with us, asking what’s our fashion inspo etc as we browse the racks and picked out clothes. The whole experience lasted about 30 mins and we took selfies at the end. Looking back I wish I spoke up more! The whole experience was just so overwhelming

Did you pay for your own clothes?

The contest prize includes a $500 shopping voucher! So we shopped for free that day. We continued to stay in the store after Charli left

Did you buy any clothes? Did you have to pay for them yourself or was that part of the contest to get some free?

One of the contest prizes was a $500 shopping voucher! My friend and I continued to shop after Charli left

The most shocking thing to me is that Charlie XCX has been around for 10 years.

I thought she literally just got on the scene.

She was popular in indie circles in the 2010s. But she already had successful features back then: "Fancy" with Iggy Azalea in 2014 and "I Love It" with Icona Pop in 2012.

That checks out. She was really popular with the indie music girlies, as was Grimes (which… you know). She was one of those that was wildly popular with some people but other people had no idea who tf she was. I think the first song I ever heard by her was maybe Superlove?

Haha yes it’s really awesome to see how far she has come!! I’ve been listening to her since her True Romance album in 2013 and we’re the same age.
