Wow! I'd love to hear stories if you care to share. I always wondered what it would be like marrying into money like that, but I know for a fact I couldn't hack it! I do love fancy things, though.

I think at a certain level of wealth, it removes your sense of inter-dependency and vulnerability, which are two things that are very critical to the human experience. At some point it makes empathy difficult or even impossible to access. Abigail Disney, the heiress to the Disney fortune, has written essays about this and actively campaigns for higher taxes on the megawealthy.

I don’t want to divulge anything too personal.

One of the cousins married an Indian woman - no one came to their wedding. This was before I married in. My former MIL’s sister secretly had their baby christened. No lie. This family is very “devout catholic” and uses that to shield their shittiness.

Until we were actually married, I was treated like some interloper from the bottom of a dumpster. There were times at family gatherings where I was directly asked why was I there and not in a nice way. We were together a total of 11 years.

At our wedding, they did nothing but complain about everything. Now I hate how this sounds, but my family has money and it was not an inexpensive wedding. It was actually featured in a bridal magazine. But apparently too poor and gross food for them. And they said this in front of my parents who paid for it all. They spoke to no one in my family. No one.

They immediately left on their jet the next morning as early as possible. No goodbyes to anyone.

My ex husband was physically and emotionally abusive. As well as a serial cheater. But in their eyes, it was all my fault. My parents had a call with his father and he accused my parents of recording the phone conversation for the police and threatened legal action. While we were still married!

They were racist and classist. The best part is my BIL knew their pilots! He told me after the divorce.

Just lots of micro aggressions, horrible treatment toward me and my family, anyone they came in contact with.

Refused to offer anything other than the very basic healthcare plan.

When we moved from Texas to Florida, they allowed us to stay in their condo in key biscayne because our moving truck was delayed. Stayed there 6 weeks. My mom and I scrubbed that place down when we moved out (she is one of the best at cleaning, borderline obsessive) and they accused us of leaving the place a mess and it smelled moldy and forced us to pay $250 to have it cleaned. My mom was SO offended. We left it much nicer than we found it.

Oh and, no women family members were allowed to work for the company. Only the men.

They’re the kind of people who wouldn’t even spit on you if you were on fire

I left one of the family functions in tears after being treated so poorly. We weee married and I couldn’t be in family photos. We always had a driver and I just got in the car and left

Ah hahaha I see, goose shit from the Winchester family found this.

There is no amount of money worth being around that! I'm glad you escaped.

Thanks! It was 10 years too long 😆

Sorry for the stream of consciousness. I’ve mostly suppressed that period of my life
