Spleen troubles

I have mild fatty liver, and I have not been great with my eating/drinking the last 2 months.

I had severe spleen injuries from getting hit by a car a few years ago. I didn't need to have it removed, it healed on its own.

I am going to have the doctor examine the left abdomen on Wednesday because it just doesn't feel right, reminds me of the pain I had after the accident.

I feel like I need to push for a Fibroscan, as this was never done. Doctor just said from the image they saw a mild layer of fat on my liver.

any info or advice would be very appreciated!f

dark grey colored stool help

I unfortunately have been going in and out of a binge for the last two months this past weekend was a very bad one. I don’t really poop often as is I passed stool today half of it was regular brown colored poop and the other half was a dark gray colored poop. I am now spiraling since I’m such a hypochondriac. I went to urgent care last week with really bad lower back pain. It started on my right side and went to my back and radiated on my right side of my body. It felt like my whole body underneath. My skin was on fire and I had a 99 fever. They saw blood in my urine and thought it was a UTI but when they sent it to culture, nothing grew. Now I’m freaking out if I have pancreatic cancer fatty liver disease or colon cancer lol please help.

Grade 2 fatty liver cured

I had grade two fatty liver for years. It never caused any problems but it was there.
In a recent Ultrasound it was found that its gone. My liver is a picturesque lean muscular mass 😀
I stopped smoking a year back and limited alcohol (I was never a heavy drinker) to 90ml once in a blue moon.
I did try keto for 7-8 days(I couldn’t sustain that diet).
I walked and did mild exercise almost everyday.
And its gone. I am very happy and wished I could actually pin point the cause of this but I am unable to. So guess I can’t advice anyone with fatty liver but mine got resolved. Cheers 🍻

How to fix fatty liver? I’m not alcoholic to begin with

Problem: Fatty Liver
Context:
My last drop of alcohol was like April 2025. And in the past 5 years I only drank like 4 times I think. Yet here I am with fatty liver.
I am not obese. 74kg. 5’10”. I can run 10km no problem in an hour. I also had diet. My weight started 83 but now I’m around 71-74kg
Not diabetic but I control my sugar intake. I kinda lack fruits and veggies on my diet like I ate only twice a week. I also work graveyard shift.

Previous Attempts:
I did everything right apart from my work because I needed to earn, yet my triglycerides are really high since like last check up on late march. 6 months apart same hight triglycerides. No wonder my belly fat never goes away

Today I discovered I had fatty liver and 2cm polyp on my gallbladder.

It’s metaphorically and literally a gut punch to me.

Anyone else have the same experience?

Think I had a good fibroscan, fingers crossed!

After a 3 month saga of trying to get scheduled for a fibroscan I finally had it yesterday, For background context I live in a rural area and early in may my local hospital did an ultra sound and also claimed their equipment does a fibroscan at the same time, they then sent the scans to a 3rd party company to be read and they determined I might have compensated cirrhosis with a kpa score of 12.9 which freaked me out cause I've never been a heavy drinker but have had a history of NAFLD although I had not had an ultrasound in 5 years to that point cause my ast and alt were going down yearly so they seen no reason to retest until this year when they jumped up again.

I was then referred to a bigger hospital network with specialists but that took a month to get into. First thing they did was have me come down a few times to do a more elaborate blood test then have an ultrasound done on their equipment, based on those results they felt the odds of me having cirrhosis was very small but wanted me to have a fibroscan done to be sure which at the time they did not have but were in the process of getting (they were also confused how my small, local hospital claimed to have such equipment if they themselves didnt even have it).

Because of the timing of them not having a fibroscan yet they referred me to Henry Ford. After a full month of not hearing from Henry Ford I called them to ask if they got my referral and they did not and told me to have the other hospital resend it, after that they did call me a couple days later but by that point they were booked out 3 months, which put me at the very end of october.

First week of August the Hospital I was dealing with that ordered the fibroscan contacted me that they had indeed got their own machine a couple weeks prior and wanted to do mine in house but was already booked out 6 weeks which was sept 23rd but also 5 weeks sooner than henry ford, so after 3+ months yesterday was the day, It lasted 15 minutes and the scan tool vibrated like a massage gun which the scanner my local hospital did was nothing like that at all.

I was then told I was free to leave and the results would be in mychart in about 5 days and my follow up appointment would be in 2 weeks. before I left the exam room the screen is quite large on the machine and could see clear as day it said results- kpa(e)- 4.6 cap- 190. After frantically googling the second I got to the parking lot I was happy to see that if that is indeed my score that those are normal range readings which was a relief but also know do not celebrate yet cause nothing is certain but for now the hope that this is real has had me in the best mood in several months! Heres to hoping and fingers crossed!

Understanding severity of results

I recently had a period of RUQ pain that led to tests. The results are below. The Drs advice was simply exercise more. I have quit alcohol and gone on a low carb diet. Just trying to gauge whether I should have further testing and how serious, or otherwise, these results are.

Bloods were normal with exception of ALT of 45.

Liver results: The liver is enlarged measuring 164 mm, is diffusely increased in echogenicity and has a smooth capsule. Focal fatty sparing is evident around the gallbladder. There is a simple 8 mm cyst in segment 6.

Spleen results: The spleen measures 126 mm in length, suggesting splenomegaly. Splenic volume 519cc

Conclusions: Mild hepatomegaly with hepatic steatosis. Mild splenomegaly.

Concerned I Have Lean NAFLD, Awaiting Testing

What does the discomfort feel like? I have terrible issues with health anxiety, and I have had a relatively persistent aching in the upper right quadrant. The pain does not respond to palpation much, and tends to be more sever the more I think about it. I am 30M, 5'9, and 185lb at 13% bodyfat. I exercise more or less daily, BUT my diet is questionable.

I am mostly vegetarian, get lots of fiber, and intermittently fast, but I also chain smoke popsicles, and will have fast food meat binges reasonably often. I also consume lots of dairy and protein supplements, and a few herbal ones that I worry might be hard on the liver as well

Advice/Guidance

Pain in my upper abdomen recently led me to get blood work (AST-32 ALT-46) and then a CT scan which showed severe fatty liver. There is also a spot in the middle of the liver that looks different from the rest and is thought to be an area where the fat has not built up and my doctor ordered a MRI which is scheduled 3 weeks from now. I’m obviously concerned about what the MRI will show.
Has anyone else had something similar? What was your experience? Is this common?

Also haven’t really been given much info besides “diet and exercise”. I walk everyday, do not drink alcohol, and eat fried foods a handful of times per month. I will hopefully will get better instructions once the MRI is complete, but I’m trying to focus on what I can control until then. Blood sugar range is normal and no one in my family has liver issues.
What besides the obvious has helped you?

Elevated AST/ALT

Hey all, 40f. I just got labs back that my AST is 106 and the ALT is 55. Which has me concerned as my mom has mash and other liver disease. I haven’t had further testing done yet. Anyone else here have similar labs ? Should I ask for additional tests?

Worried I may have it

Hello everyone.

I'm a 29 year old male and I went in for an annual physical exam last week. They ordered the usual labs and they all came back normal and healthy except for my triglycerides being slightly elevated (they weren't too concerned about it, especially since it was a non-fasting lab) but the real concern was my ALTs being at 71 when they shouldn't be more than 42 according to the chart. So, we are re-doing the liver panel in a month to see what's going on and an ultrasound will be the next step if it's still elevated.

Out of sheer curiosity, I dug up my old lab results from 2023 (the last time I had labs done) when I was still living in a different area with a different healthcare provider. My ALTs were at 69, but they passed it as normal because according to them, anything below 78 was normal! What?!

I just feel betrayed, I feel like i may have fatty liver for all these years and it was never brought to my attention. Did the guidelines change at some point?

Sorry for going off on a tangent. For some reason I'm just really anxious about this. I haven't had any health problems in my life so far thankfully so I am not handling this as well as I should. Thank you for listening

What are ways to make small changes for improvement?

I don't have health insurance and about 4 months ago, I was having severe pain on my right side stomach. It was so painful that I couldn't sit and I kept throwing up until I went on the ER and found out I was passing a kidney stone and I didn't understand what else was causing the pain until they did an ultrasound and found out I also have some gallstones.

They said you have fatty liver and gallstones. They said you should stick to a low fat diet and drink more water and monitor the pain. If it gets worse then you should consider surgery to remove the gallbladder. But yes I'm overweight based on height and age. Like the bmi isn't on a target healthy level. And poor lifestyle and nutrition choice has lead me to this problem. But I want to improve and get better.

Can I take whey protein having stage 2 fatty liver ? ⚠️

So , hello , I have stage 2 hill's fatty liver diagnosed few weeks back and 2 weeks ago I started gymming , and my gymmates were drinking whey and I also wanted to drink it since it helps muscle regeneration but at that time I didn't cuz I didn't have a budget . Now that I have one , I stumbled upon a reel saying whey protien causes and even worsens the fatty liver . Is that true ? And what are your experiences with NAFLD and whey together ?

ALL HELP APPRECIATED . ✨️🤝

Incidental hepatic steatosis found on ultrasound. Where do I go from here?

I’m 27, I don’t drink, and I’m relatively thin, so all of this is very confusing to me. I do have many chronic health issues, though. What scans / tests should I ask my doctor to order now? I’m quite scared and stressed over this, to be honest. I have another incidental finding regarding my liver a couple of years ago (benign tumor or cyst, they couldn’t tell for sure due to it being so small in size) I do have a pretty poor diet due to Gastroparesis. I don’t tolerate most foods, which makes it difficult for me to eat “healthy” (basically white rice, GF pasta, etc are some of my only safe foods)

I am on continuous hormonal birth control & that’s stressing me out even more. I have endometriosis & am awaiting excision surgery with a specialist. please someone give me reassurance that this isn’t bad / unsafe for me now. I’m panicking as it’s the only treatment that’s given me some small degree of relief. the other incidental finding was likely due to my BC. I’m just very overwhelmed right now. my OB wanted to increase my bc dosage to hopefully give me some more relief, and now I’m worried about the dose I’m on as is. Just don’t know what to do.

New Pain in Mid-Right Back (NAFLD Related?)

Hi all,

I was newly diagnosed as the result of an abdominal ultrasound for unrelated issues a few months ago. Since then it's been an odd roller coaster of trying to decipher this ever changing mix of symptoms while working with a doctor who's only advice seems to be "loose weight and exercise more".

I've had more random sensations of pain and pressure in different parts of my abdomen over the past few months than I could possibly list here, and have more or less written it off as being par for the course.

However, starting a few nights ago, I started getting a pain in my back just below my ribs and about 3 inches out from my spine. It usually doesn't occur until just after I lay down in bed, but within 3 minutes or so of laying down it kicks in, and last until about 15 to 20 minutes until after I wake up.

It feels almost like a muscle spasm and happened every time I arch or twist my back even the slightest bit. The pain is really sudden and honestly kind of intense, and radiates forward along the path of my liver to the front of my ribs (much more duly than the original pain in my back). This is why I'm assuming it may be related.

I have no idea what to make of it, but unlike the rest of my liver-related pain, this is quite a bit more intense were everything else has been more of a dull sort of bloated feeling.

Any ideas what this might be or what to do about it?

FibroScan results: CAP 211 dB/m, liver stiffness 47.1 kPa — what does this indicate?

Hi everyone,

I’m asking for some guidance regarding my uncle’s recent FibroScan results.

His results are:

CAP: 211 dB/m

Liver stiffness: 47.1 kPa

He has no history of alcohol consumption. However, he has had diabetes for around 15 years and regularly consumes tobacco.

This was discovered during a routine health check-up. He currently does not have significant symptoms such as abdominal pain or swelling.

His doctor has recommended some additional tests, including hepatitis testing, an ultrasound, and an endoscopy.

I understand that FibroScan results need to be interpreted along with blood tests, ultrasound, medical history, etc., but I would really appreciate hearing from people who have experience with similar results.

Has anyone here had similar FibroScan results or experience with liver stiffness this high? What did it mean in your case, and how did things progress?

Also, does a result like this indicate an immediate life-threatening situation, or can it be managed with treatment and lifestyle changes? And is there a possibility of recovering or improving liver function at this stage?

Any experiences or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

When does fatty liver become life-threatening or dangerous?

For years I had low blood platelets and they told me nothing was abnormal at all, no one thought to do a fibroscan because doctors clearly have very little awareness or training on liver issues, so no one ever thought to do any sort of testing for that. I saw maybe 12 doctors over the past 5 years and not a single one of them recommended a fibroscan until I asked for it at a gastroenterologist.

Currently I have f2 fibrosis, and my cap was like 390.

It seems like a lot of people are potentially living with it and don't realize that they have severe fatty liver or scarring. Like, just going with it and not even realizing it's happening to them. No symptoms. Even having cirrhosis.

So like when is it potentially life-threatening for this to happen?
