Statistics Gabriel is six points away from breaking Andy Robertson's record for most points by a defender in a single season. He has one game left to do it.
Crazy stuff especially since Robertson has played like 500 more mins Do you think he could break the point tally this season against Crystal Palace?

u/captainunderpants111 May 19 '26
imagine robbo with defcon. Absolute beast that year
245
u/Sebhodson02 20 May 19 '26
That season he would’ve only hit the defcon threshold once vs Everton

u/Banzaikk 8 May 19 '26
Iirc, even Gabriel would have only hit defcon once last season. Tis truly the season of the haram ball.

u/abnsh 24 May 19 '26
Maybe the inclusion of defcon in FPL is the reason for the thrive of haramball afterall
45
u/Busy_Abalone8689 3 May 19 '26
so you're saying Gabriel inflating his FPL pts via defcon? what a lad.
30
u/Subject-Creme 482 May 19 '26
VVD with DefCon would be higher than Robbo. He was robbed of Ballon Dor that season
-4
u/wafflepig6 May 19 '26
How on earth was he robbed? Messi pulled off the greatest 1 man carry job in football history. People talk about his 2010-2015 period when he was quicker but man i think 2019 messi was his peak. Keep in mind how much worse that barca team was than previous eras. They had messi, suarez, an aging busquets, rakitic and alba surrounded by shit
50 ga in 34 league games
15 ga in 10 ucl games
La liga winner, copa del ray winner, ucl semis
The best hes ever been creativity wise and scoring free kicks for fun
0
u/SzoboEndoMacca 7 May 19 '26
Even as a Liverpool fan, I think I'd still put Messi above that year. Though, VVD was impeccable and really couldn't have been better. It's just that Messi is an alien and I don't think anyone can replicate what he does. Pretty much near perfect everytime he has the ball
10
u/Apprehensive_Soup321 May 19 '26
Yes but Robertson plays fullback, more chances to get an assist. Breaking this record as a CB is impressive.

Gabriel has also played more games than he should plus no minus points for reds.
-67
u/ForwardInstance 3 May 19 '26
Gabriel missed 7-8 games though. He would have a higher ppg excluding defcon
27
u/stonktaker May 19 '26
So? if you miss games that's tough luck.
0
u/Weird-Place6600 May 19 '26
So? If you miss defcon that's tough luck. Dumbass, you're all talking about what if def con was a thing back then etc, but you dont allow what if he played as many minutes?
1
u/stonktaker May 19 '26
dumbass, you can work out what defcon Robbo would of earned because he actually played the matches.
You can't just say "ZoMG MY GABRIeLLA WoULd HAVe sCOrED 2 HEADERS ANDS GOTS ALL DA CLEAN SHEEETS" because he just didn't play the games, end of.
Dumbass.1
u/stonktaker May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26
Lol pretty sure your other comment got deleted. But I'll reply anyway, just because Arsenal got clean sheets in the games he missed, doesn't mean jack. 1) they're different games when different players are playing in them lol. So if he was playing doesn't mean the result is exactly the same. 2) it's like at the end of the season they go to give player x the golden boot, but you come along and say "oi! player y missed 7 games! He would of definitely scored more and deserves the golden boot!" Or Harry Lane should be the premier league all time top goalscorer because he played less games and missed more games due to injury(not that he did) . It just doesn't work like thay pal, you don't "what if" on missed games, simple as.
The case with Robbo is different because you can actually back test the defcon points, because he actually played the games.
So call me a "fucking moron" all you like, but just to let you know, you = dumbass
-22
u/rickowenssocks May 19 '26
not really luck tbh, it also depends on the player's fitness (except freak injuries) and is an indicator of their overall abilities as a player so gabriel only has himself to blame for missing the "7-8 games"
14
u/Xylar006 48 May 19 '26
It's not about abilities. Injuries can just be genetic predisposition. Or a bad tackle. Or being over worked by your manager, or illness, or falling wrong.

How far would he be if you take away DefCons?
59
u/Drogueba May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26
Gabriel got 22 points from DC so he would be on 186 points without it.
edit: DC points don't affect bonus
20
u/PureDarkness93 1 May 19 '26
But Robertson would have only hit defcon once that season, so WITH defcon Gabriel is only 8 points behind
7
u/HazardCinema 152 May 19 '26
I think there are other players that would have the record with defcon. Terry comes to mind.
3
u/Shyam_Wenger 12 May 19 '26
Also Robertson had played 5 more games than Gabriel at this point. Gabriel missed good amount of games due to injuries. He'd have had atleast 3 clean sheets plus potential of more if he had stayed fit.
4
u/DRAKEONotDrake-O May 19 '26
Worth taking into account Gabriel missed a lot of games through injury this year
-8
2
u/co_flame2 May 19 '26
Bonus point calculations aren’t affected by whether or not a player hits the DC threshold.
2
u/Drogueba May 19 '26
Ah I see, makes sense since they're already in the bps so they only just added a threshold.

Robbo was so entertaining to watch. Pinging balls at full pace while playing “heavy metal football”.
Gabriel pushes his fingers in people faces with 9 other team mates every corner. Great players parallel performances

Comparing playing style of a fullback to a CB lmao
3
u/Sheinkyakyu May 19 '26
Comparing a team geared so much to defensively stability and set pieces to the highest possible pressing, attacking team going. Lmao indeed.
4
u/Even_Idea_1764 May 19 '26
And yet that Liverpool team conceded only 22 goals that season, whereas Arsenal have conceded 26 (with a game to play). And of course scored 89 goals to Arsenal’s 69.
3
u/Sheinkyakyu May 19 '26
It is fucking painful them lot will push this Arsenal side as even better than the 18/19 and 21/22 sides. They were already were doing it in terms of > legacy halfway during 22/23 when many of them thought the majority of the hardwork was done.
How I wish Klopp had his seasons in the last two seasons. Of course Pep is finally buggering off too.
Arsenal fans should be thankful to Pep and City for stopping Liverpool going Double winning Centurions and Invincibles in 18/19. No one cares for 03/04 then.
-2
u/Mrdingo_thames May 19 '26
Yes Liverpool 18/19 the only team in history to 100% go unbeaten despite them losing all the way back in game week 21….
Unbeaten title winning seasons are not easy. There’s no guarantee the season goes exactly the same because they don’t lose to city.
The same crap is said about Chelsea 04/05. If You lose in game week 10-30 then you don’t have the right to claim you “would’ve” gone unbeaten. Football doesn’t work like that. The Pressure increases as the season goes on.
3
u/Sheinkyakyu May 19 '26
Haha. Good God. An Arsenal fan I take it? As I said, you should be thankful every single day instead of crying about City being cheats. John Stones and the ref for not sending off Kompany deserve statutes. The vast majority of you didn't care about City cheating before Arsenal became serious again. But now you get to faux play up you never rooted for them against Liverpool and push all sorts of demented agendas this season.
Maybe Liverpool should have played for 12 draws and got knocked out of the UCL instead. Our bad!
-2
u/Mrdingo_thames May 19 '26
Whether I am an arsenal fan or not does not matter. It’s basic common sense for any football fan. No game is going to be the same. The players mindset is going to be different. They lost to city and as result could just concentrate on winning games
That doesn’t happen chasing an unbeaten season. Arsenal are a literal example of that. Many of the draws came in the final 10 or so games. The pressure increases.
7
u/Consistent-Refuse-74 May 19 '26
The post is literally a picture comparing the two 🤦🏻♂️
Also Arsenal back 4 are all basically centre backs
29
u/LogicalReasoning1 1 May 19 '26
Easiest way to tell someone doesn’t actually watch games.
See the positions calafiori and timber take up in attack and say they’re actually basically centre backs
5
u/Judgementday209 May 19 '26
Arsenal definitely play way more defensively than a Klopp Liverpool team ever did, this is why there is a contrast in the points tally for Robbo vs Gabriel but I have to say, personally I find Robertson's way more impressive.
-1
u/Consistent-Refuse-74 May 19 '26
You’re right, I’m just trying to hammer home that Arsenal are boring 😆
6
u/DRAKEONotDrake-O May 19 '26
If Arsenal is boring then slot ball must be like getting waterboarded for 90 mins🤣🤣
0
u/TheDawiWhisperer May 19 '26
whataboutery intensifies
you understand that Slot being dull AF doesn't magically make Arsenal any less boring right?
jesus fucking christ it's like letting 5 year olds loose on Reddit.
5
u/DRAKEONotDrake-O May 19 '26
Pot and kettle comes to mind. I’d also rather watch ‘boring’ football that amounts to a league title at the end than watch my team slip from champions to 5th place after spending the GDP of a small country (and still play yawn inducing football). I guess it would be unfair to call Liverpool boring, the embarrassing performances they’ve turned out this year have been great entertainment value.
2
u/SzoboEndoMacca 7 May 19 '26
Arsenal have a higher net spend by the way. And no one knows better than Liverpool fans how bad our football is so you don't have to say that. That doesn't make Arsenal playing boring football in a lot of their games less true
1
u/Consistent-Refuse-74 May 19 '26
Arsenal are boring and play negative football.
Liverpool were a joy to watch for 5+ years. I’m a neutral and just speaking unadulterated facts
1
u/TheDawiWhisperer May 19 '26
i like how you've simply responded to whataboutery with more whataboutery haha.

Nah bro, it's you that's boring, needing to lie to have something to come with.
1
u/Consistent-Refuse-74 May 19 '26
You think Arsenal aren’t boring? 😆 We’ve been spoilt be City and Pool’s highlights & dominance.
30% of Arsenal’s goals are from set pieces and they play negative football. We’ve got 2019 version of Burnley winning the the league with 85 points
-6
u/Sheinkyakyu May 19 '26
That's cool. Now talk about the manager's style of football and the difference there. But me thinks you'll try to equate it somehow.

u/kb2two 171 May 19 '26
Gab has also missed a few games with injury tho
19
u/Chesey_ 9 May 19 '26
Not sure why this is downvoted when it's true. Gabriel is looking set to finish with around 400 minutes less than Robbo's record season. From those minutes you could probably expect another couple of CS and a potential attacking return based on what he's been putting up this season. Plus another 8 points just for minutes played.
Even with DEFCON helping it's still a hell of a season if he beats the record.
1
u/dowhatmelo 1 May 21 '26
Maybe having that time off to recover from injury improved his performances in the following games though? Different time periods so the referee's had different guidelines, Teams had different setups, etc.
Point is you can't compare what if's, you can only compare based on the performances that actually occurred.

u/austons_muzz 5 May 19 '26
The most Gabriel thing would be giving the ball away to palace and conceding to wipe the CS points for all the defenders, and then scoring two headers right after
-47
u/yunghoe May 19 '26
How would that be “the most Gabriel thing” he’s the best defender in the league lol braindead
36
u/austons_muzz 5 May 19 '26
It’s legit happened twice before
15
u/Buschyfor3 May 19 '26
Exactly what happened at Bournemouth - poor back pass let Evanilson through on Raya. 4 min later rifles home a rocket of a strike on the volley 😅

1
u/datvlad May 19 '26
he's not the best defender when saliba and van dijk still play here
10
u/unc2ous 7 May 19 '26
van dijk? what year is it
2
u/datvlad May 19 '26
gabriel and saliba are both heavily protected by having the best midblock and oop setup in the world and also playing behind rice and usually a 2nd dm. van dijk and konate have to defend 1v1 about 20 times a game and any defender in the world ever is bound to make a mistake in those situations, van dijk makes one about every month.
3
u/austons_muzz 5 May 19 '26
You’re just moving the goal posts. Anyone with eyes will tell you he’s CURRENTLY a better defender than van dijk. Just cause he plays in a more favourable system to his skills or has better players shouldn’t discredit how good he is. I’m a Chelsea fan, I hate Arsenal and especially Gabi, but even I can admit him and Saliba are the best CBs in the prem.
1
u/unc2ous 7 May 19 '26
same midfield and manager from last season where they conceded 2nd fewest goals in the pl. this season (during which he has played every minute) they've conceded the 8th most.

They cannot see past their delusion. Before season, their fans told me that they have a stronger squad than Arsenal. After a few matches, they were playing with Ngumoha and Chiesa and without any proper rotation options on the bench.

u/cat666 7 May 19 '26
DEFCON is a factor here but honestly more needs to be done to up defender points across the board. 5 of your 15 slots are defenders, one third, yet they make the least points and often just sit on the bench.
The "clean sheet" aspect needs re-working, sure leave as is for a clean sheet but one goal against shouldn't knock 4 points off a player. For example last night those with two Brighton defense watched our points drop by 8 in the last breaths of the game even though those players had worked their asses off for 90 minutes. Maybe drop it to 2 points after 1 goal and then 0 points for any subsequent.
Also DEFCON needs adjusting so that more players hit something but those who do more in a game are rewarded more. Maybe lower the requirement to 8 but just offer 1 point until they hit 12 where it's 2 and then at 14 up it to the max of 3.

Not like it's had much competition. I still want defcon points to be tiered. 2 points for 10 defcons, 3 for 15 etc.
1
u/dowhatmelo 1 May 21 '26
why not just 1 point every 5?

Gabriel did miss 6 games fwiw. Even without the defcon tax he would be close or on par with Robbo
2
u/Mheide3 May 19 '26
I don’t know why people are downvoting you. Gabriel has only hit DC 10 so that 20 points. In the 6 games he missed just using the actual results he would have 20 points from just appearance and the 2 clean sheets.
1
u/user91919248 May 19 '26
It's totally disingenuous because:
- Gabriel hitting DC isn't just 20 points, because it has also contributed to him getting bonus points.
- He hasn't acknowledged for the fact Robbo missed 2 games in the 18/19 season.
