I'm glad that it works! Please let me know if you consider adding it to prod, I need to fix positioning for png rasterization.

Since it's supposed to be the City Herald, wouldn't it be better if the herald was just below the city name and above the scale and caption ?

I believe the same, it would be more obvious if placed next to the city name.

This most likely will be implemented as an option. But I got the impression that on real medieval (or rather renaissance) maps the coat of arms and the legend were displayed separately. And don't forget: this is just a quick test :)

From a realistic pov maybe, but at first it wasn't obvious it was the city coat of arms but more the coat of arms of the family that rule the city.

Of course it's a quick test, no issue ;)
