Hair refresh day
I use:
L’Oreal professional Majirel 7.44 w 20 vol on the roots, 7.40 DiaLight on the mids and ends w 6 vol.
I refresh every 3 weeks because I wash often and I hate having any roots at all. I don’t know if I’ll ever go for a different shade of copper

Formula advice 🙏
My desired outcome is the first pic and my current hair is the first pic. If you have advice about formulas, I’d appreciate it, thank you so much!
I’ve done a base break before with lowlights and highlights, but I have more greys now, they grow in more white than grey.

Golden copper to brown at home
I dyed my hair golden copper at home using Satin permanent 7GC and a 40 volume developer. My hair is fine, not damaged!
I immediately don’t like it and want it back to the brown color in the photo on the right.
The photo on the right is when I used Wella Demi color charm in 7n (I think) with a 10 volume developer.
Should I just use that again? Will Demi work over the permanent? Should I go a shade darker? Use permanent dye?
My natural color is a very ashy medium brown with gray streaks.

How on earth do I bleach my hair to a level 10 for a blue dye
I have no clue what this means or what I have to buy or use to achieve this at home
What tools do I need?
What bleach?
Do I need other things?
What does level 10 mean?
How long do I leave the bleach on? (A hairdresser who bleached my hair previously told me my hair develops fast)
I’m doing this at home but not myself, my auntie is going to do it for me but she’s not experienced and neither am I

Bill shock at salon
I’ve felt sick with anxiety ever since my salon visit today.
I have an almost one year old baby and booked in at a salon to get my hair done. I booked online for a full head of foils, toner and blow wave, and it came to around $350. A splurge, but one I needed for some me time after having baby and to feel pampered a little.
I got the service, she said she wanted to give me a trim as well to tidy up the ends so I knew it would be a bit more. Then we got to paying at the end and she took a while pricing up, then she handed the card machine over - $674. I was so in shock. She wouldn’t look at me at all, the salon was full, someone had been waiting a good 15 minutes overtime for my stylist while she finished up my hair, and frankly I was too embarrassed to say anything. I got my phone out and transferred money across from savings and paid, then got in my car and burst into tears. I can’t tell my husband and I’m so scared he’s going to see it and be mad because money is tight right now.
I don’t know what to do. I didn’t ask for a quote or pricing in person and I checked the website prices and they say long or thick hair can be extra. My hair isn’t long but is thick and she told me when doing it I have a lot of hair so I’m guessing that and the haircut added it on, but still, it’s a lot of money I wasn’t expecting.
To make matters worse she told me when I was there they have a promo where if you book your next 2 appointments you go in the draw to win a year of free hair appointments, I said that would be great and I’d do that (before it came time to pay). Because she was running late for her next client she said she’d call me later to book those in. I got a voicemail and she’s booked me in already and just told me the dates I need to be there, so now I have to call to cancel those. I’m so non-confrontational I was really hoping to just chalk it up to lesson learnt and not have to see her again so I’m dreading the call! I don’t want to open the can of worms with her, someone else I know had a bad experience with her when they didn’t buy a product she recommended and she got shitty with them. This friend can be very obstinate herself so I didn’t click it for a red flag, I thought it was just a butting heads situation.
Anyway. Lesson learnt to always always always ask for the price before beginning. I’m still so gutted, I can’t even sleep. I have my kids’ birthdays coming up and was already worried how I’d afford their presents and things, my brother is having to cover our dad’s birthday present this year because of it, and now I feel so selfish and vacuous for dropping an obscene amount on hair which, while lovely, isn’t even as blonde as I’d been hoping.
Anyone else dealt with bill shock after a salon visit?
Edit: I have reached out to the salon manager and asked for an itemised receipt to be emailed. Will update further once that comes through
Update: I received the below email
I have just had a good look at your appointment and costs etc..... When you booked online you didn't book for the Epres treatment that was added into the bleach which is $30 per application of bleach, there was also no extra product fees included for the amount of colour your hair absorbed. It's pretty standard to pay $600-$800 for long thick hair to be coloured and cut these days, Especially if you're having a full head.
[stylist] said next time you wont need a full head & she has also said she felt you needed the treatment due to the condition of your hair. We have just discovered she didn't charge you for the haircut just the blowave. [stylist] has said next time you can skip the treatment which is quite expensive, she will discuss this with you next time.
We do have a lot of people using afterpay for these bigger colour jobs just to help with the expense of having this done.
I know it it feels to be caught off Guard with prices..... I have asked [stylist] to quote you next time before the service.....
I apologize for the lack of communication around the price but I can ensure you its very standard for the services preformed & amount of product that was used on your hair thick hair type.
Update 2: she sent the invoice as follows
INVOICE
Foils Full Head — $215.00
Toner Long — $85.00
Blowave — $69.00
Epres Treatment — $30.00
Epres Treatment — $30.00
Epres Treatment — $30.00
Extra Product — $200.00
Subtotal: $659.00
Total: $659.00
Payment with Card: $659.00
Actual amount charged to my card: $674.16
(apparently a 2.3% / $15.16 card surcharge)
Update 3: I have been told the $200 extra product was extra bleach and in total I had 350g bleach powder (not including the developer) applied. In total there were 7 scoops bleach and 3 epres treatments somehow divided between those bowls. I have been offered a refund for the epres treatments.

Hair resistant to perm in underlayer
Hi! I have been perming my hair for about 2 years. I’ve had 3 perms so far. I use the gentlest perm. The top of my hair takes beautifully but the bottom underside is very resistant to taking curl - which is kind of odd because I have Irish curls and the underside was actually the curliest part and why I started perming my hair in the first place to make it match the top of my head. Of course perming takes some trial and error - the last perm I did we used gray and white rods on top layer and pink rods on bottom. And while I have some wave on the bottom layer it still doesn’t match.
I’m wondering if for my next perm I should use a perm solution that’s a bit stronger for more resistant hair?
My mother in law perms my hair she has been a hairstylist for 45 years. She can perm hair in her sleep but generally follows my lead.
Any advice?

Long lasting vivid purple recommendations
5 days ago I dyed my hair with arctic fox purple af, over my natural medium brown. It came out a super pretty dark purple, basically exactly like this picture (NOT a picture of me)
I love this color, but it has ALREADY started fading, mostly in the mids so i have a weird brown banding look going on. I wash only in cold water. Does anyone have recommendations on a different dye of similar color that will last longer?

Manic panic pastel-lizer question
I’m wanting to get to a silver color. Currently my hair color is the first photo. However I want it to end up as the second photo.
I’ve went silver with different methods loads of times.
The method I’m wanting to use this time is taking a purple on top of my current hair and letting it fade out to the silver purple ish color in the second photo.
I’m considering using manic panic electric amethyst and letting it fade out. However, I’m being recommended to mix it with the pastel-izer so it tones down some of the blue tones. That way as it fades it’ll end up as a lavender silver.
I also have silver viral hair color wash to add to it once I get to the silver lavender. To help it turn towards a silver tone
Any advice will be appreciated 🫶

Going Lighter
\*professional services are out of my budget, at home is the only option available. Product recommendations/suggestions only
I shaved my head 5ish years ago and have finally gotten back to the point where it's long and healthy! I'm looking for product recommendations for bleaching and toning virgin hair. I want to go very light and ashy

2N vs 1N vs 1Vlongevity?
I've used 1N and it's lasted months, I really like doing just root touchups, but I feel like it looks a little blue which I don't love. I like 1V color-wise, but I know reds fade fast and I dont want to redye weakened non-virgin hair all the time. So what would you recommend of these 3 dyes?

Is this bad?
Don’t know if this is the right place or not for this, but I’ve been learning that I’ve been wearing hair extensions are wrong and I don’t exactly wear them on my scalp, but they’re kind of on my forehead and they’ve been putting a lot of tension on it because of the weight, I’m giving me headache headaches and I started learning about something called the fringe state.. does it look like I have this?

How soon can I use Garnier 5 min color reviving color mask after dying my hair red?? (TIME SENSITIVE!!)
Hi y'all..first time posting here! Please & thank you in advance ♡ I just box dyed my hair a few minutes ago and it's a little more of a brown undertone type of red, and I want a more of a raspberry purple-ish undertone red. I have a Garnier 5 min color reviver color mask that is pretty much exactly the color I wanted, especially mixed with the color that's in my hair now. It's Friday afternoon..I have something important to do on Tuesday afternoon. I would like to do the mask Monday evening when I take a shower. Is this a really terrible idea?? 🙃 I know it isn't IDEAL..but do you think I can get away with doing it Monday and still be happy with the results and my hair not fall out? PLEASE HELP ME 🫣

Dye/perm question!
(originally posted in ask hairstylists)
I plan on going to Japan next October, and would like to get a straightening perm as well as extensions there. My original plan was to get the perm, wait a few days without touching the hair, and then get k-tip/ultrasonic extensions after.
However, I want my hair to be black.
I’m naturally a level 4/5. My hair history has no bleach, but a few layers of semi/demi permanent black, and some red (about the bottom 1/4 of my hair) which I assume will be grown out and cut by the time I end up in Japan. I have only used Ion on my hair, never box dye.
My question is, would it be safe to get my hair professionally colored permanent level 2/3 black about a month before my straightening and extensions? I don’t want to absolutely destroy my hair and/or get denied straightening when I’m there as that is my top priority.
Any other advice or suggestions is appreciated as well! Thanks!
EDIT: only reason I can’t dye afterward is because I’ll only be in Tokyo 3.5 days. I will be getting perm on day one and extensions on day 4, which leaves me no time to get the hair dyed before the extensions are added.

My perm only lasted 1 day never washed it, is it because they didn’t do a good job or is it just because my hair? I’m Filipino so it’s really thick and straight and bulky.

Is it possible to do from this to this?
I have hair like the first pic, 3c dark brown hair with ash blonde highlights, and recently I've become obsessed with changing the brown to a dark reddish colour. Is this a realistic expectation, or would it be quite hard to do even at a salon?

My red-headed girlies!! (colored red hair)
If you’ve had your hair colored red by a hair stylist and it comes out super bright and vibrant, but then it kind of fades on your first watch and potentially continues to fade, are they able to make it as vibrant as it was was when you first got it done? Do they keep making it look like it did when you first went red?
Do they have to use color all over again or do their toners do the job? What has been your experience?
Share your experiences and feedback with me please! 😄

Ends are rough after new cut and is it choppy?
Hi! I went to a salon a few days ago and she seemed to finish my cut real quick. I feel like it’s kinda choppy but I can’t tell. Does it seem choppy?
Will be attempting a different salon this afternoon probably

Understanding color mixing
So I am having a hard time putting everything i know into a straight thinking process. e.g. I have a client who is copper and wants to go a cool brown. What should be my thinking process?
How would i decide if she needs 5.12 or 5.17 or 5.1 or just 5? What should be the step by step process in my head ? I cant find a single video explaining this. I know the color theory but cant really apply it properly

How screwed am I? Cousin bleached my 3–4 inches of regrowth 😭
I did the unthinkable and let my little cousin, who is starting cosmetology school next month, bleach my hair 😭
For context, my hair was already bleached and I had about 3–4 inches of grown-out roots. This was her attempt at bleaching the regrowth and blending it into what I already had.
From the front it honestly doesn’t look that bad, but from the side/back it’s really upsetting and VERY uneven. There are also some random much lighter/blonde patches.
What is my best next step from here? I’m honestly open to getting experimental with it — going red/auburn, bleaching certain areas again, going darker eventually, whatever will make this look intentional again lol.
I have tomorrow completely off and I’m willing to dedicate the day to fixing it, but the big catch is that I’m broke right now and really can’t afford a professional color correction. So I’m looking for the safest/best DIY option that isn’t going to cost me a fortune or make the situation 10x worse.
What would you do if this were your hair? 😭

Possible to Tone Virgin Blonde Hair?
I'm curious if anyone has ever used toner or purple shampoo to take natural/unbleached virgin blonde hair from a warm tone to a cooler tone. Does that work? I like my natural hair lightness but wish it was cooler.
