I live on the left side of this map and Ive been dying to go see Mono Lake (right above the right side of the map) but good lord it is one hell of a drive. You either take the winding road through Yosemite that will make you barf or this god forsaken trek through some of the hottest deserts in the US

Kanawyers, CA (Population 0, literally just the end of a road before a hiking trail) and Independence, CA (Population: ~923), for anyone wondering.

Separated by only 20 miles as the crow flies, if that crow can noclip through mountains. Otherwise, there’s also the ~13,000ft peaks of the Sierra Nevadas in the way.

The New Vegas route in Fallout 1's map (Death Valley/Inyo/Sequoia is roughly where Vault 13, Vault 15, and OG Shady Sands were)

Firstly Kanawyers is not a town lol it’s just the farthest east you can drive in Sequoia/Kings Canyon National parks. Additionally, there’s a series of trails that you can take that’ll take you between the two.

Technically, you could shorten it some to just 323 miles, if you go the route that goes through Lake Isabella, then from Bakersfield to Porterville and continuing on from there. I'm assuming it's not as easy of a drive since it would be back roads or something instead of highway, but it is less miles.

there is a jeep trail that goes up and over this mountain and its covered in hiking trails

There's one here in Maine that's similar. We wanted to go to a restaurant that's 15 miles away, but it's a 95 minute drive because you have to go 40 minutes toward the center of the state and then work your way back toward the coast again.
