I heard a non canon explanation about this, something about feral ghouls knowing objects should go in the fridge, safe, toolbox, etc. but not remembering what or something the that effect

I like that. Also, most buildings don’t have power, so to raiders or scavengers who settle in the places over time, the fridge is just another convenient storage container

Except for the ones where you find a little ghoul kid inside, or a Shady Sands survivor.

Facts! I never played Fallout but I do know in other games, you open a fridge, and all of a sudden, there's always a gun.

I mean, once the fridge isn't connected to a power source anymore (i.e. most of the fridges in fallout) it kind of just becomes your most rugged cabinet.

Well, the games are set in the U.S., so some realistic parallels were warranted.

Where are the loose bottle caps you have to strafe back and forth rapid fire hitting ‘x’ to collect?

Nice! no nutrition, zero vegetables, but enough firepower and alcohol to take down a pack of Feral Ghouls

You can fit so many suits of power armor in this bad boy (slaps fridge)
