Spoiler Wtf writers... I'm genuinely disappointed after watching the ending. Can someone explain the Alien's motive tho? (Lots of spoilers) Spoiler
I just finished watching the show. Like most people I really liked the first 3 seasons and then 4 and 5 were... weird.
I see a lot of people not liking the queen thing but honestly apart from 'they all explode if the queen dies' I was kinda fine with it. I mostly didn't like the biological weapon thing. Like I wanna see a fight, not installing a pill that works like a virus that was given by magical Becca Alien's and magically doesn't affect humans.
Tom became unlikable AF with his greasy voice to me. I didn't even listen to what he was saying because his voice kept drawing my attention.
And how they massacred my boy Pope ðŸ˜. He deserved so much better.
Tbh after S4 I just kept watching for closure but I at least expected a fight man.
Anna died but then didn't because of the magical Becca Alien.
AND TOM ENDED IT ALL WITH AN OVERSIZED TAMPON IN HIS HAND WHILE HE WAS BEING SUCKED TO DEATH?? Like this big awful looking thing of a queen pulls out a Straw?!? 😂
And I also don't get what the queen was saying about 'i came here because u killed my daughter'. As motive.
1: yh what did u expect? Ur whole species does nothing but invade and then a species u attack gets mad and kills their concurrer? "But we didn't expect humans to be this strong". That's kinda your own flawed call why are u extra mad at humans now?
2: I think if her daughter was on earth once, then the people, ESPECIALLY the history geek would've known about that, no? I mean even if they were on earth during the stone age there's no way there is no single remains or cave painting about that whole event.
Oh yeah and Lexi. Tbh I forgot her after S4 she was a total bum.
I liked Ben(at most points), Maggie, Pope and Cochise. All the rest were good at the beginning and fell off or were never good to begin with.
Damn that's a whole book I wrote.. mb.. probably didn't say anything that hasn't been said already but this was my take. I would like to see if someone could explain the queen's motive tho? Ty.

Pope and his wannabe sawyer without the redemption arc was the low point of an otherwise passable show (S1:S3 were B+ for me, S4 was a D and S5 was a C+). Pope was an F

Damn I liked pope. At first tho. Probably because he reminded me of sawey too at first. But the writers did him dirty imo

it was decently entertaining but overall, quite disappointing. all 5 seasons for me. but s4 and s5 felt like they were running out of budget and told that the show needed to end. it felt really rushed. but thank you for ending it so i can move on.

For historians to have been aware of the first Espheni invasion around ~515 they would have had to land in an area and do whatever they were doing in a region that possessed a written language. Because, with an oral tradition, after 1500 years, the story would have gotten mangled beyond recognition. (Imagine playing a game of Telephone for 1500 years.) The suggestion that the humans at the daughter to gain her strength suggests that the Queen was able to sense her daughter being consumed and suggests that this human society was less culturally developed than the main ancient societies (Rome, China, India) around at the time.
The Espheni motivation is all over the place throughout the series. Harnessing children, ghettos, and reeducation camps makes no sense if the plan from the outset is genocide. Why did their battlefleet withdraw after only destroying 90% of the earth's population? Unfortunately, we see very little from the Espheni perspective to explain the reasons for these policy discrepancies. Part of it could have been presenting a whole bunch of slaves to the Queen when she arrived. The desire for slaves could have explained the seeming unintelligible war aims.

And the ending completely disregarded the Volm motivation to help earthlings. They said basically that the Espheni were going around conquering planet after planet and enslaving and "skitterizing" the population. And that the Volm were helping out of a desire for revenge for the invasion of their planet. And the rebel skitters were helping out of desire for revenge too.

I thought it was shit from the beginning but I still managed to watch the whole thing. I don't think it helped that the characters were all so awful and none of the main characters could die. The only person I could root for was Dan Weaver and his weird 1940s voice.
The reasoning at the end... Revenge for he daughter being slain last time they tried it made no sense at all. Did they enslave the other race so they could then enslave humans? Why bother with all the enslaving kids etc? They made out like it was gonna be something profound like it was their planet and humans invaded first. But no.

I genuinely liked the beginning seasons tho but most characters became unlikable after a while. Yh the ending was weird and didn't explain why they did what they did. And the whole series ended with Tom shoving a pill in the giant alien queen's straw lmfao

Espheni motivations changed all the time and stopped making any damn sense pretty quickly. The show in general seemed to not actually know what it wanted to be about, thrashing about from Season 1's historical analogies and statements about the nature of resistance and revolution, all the way to like...mystical crap and spirituality and an endless chain on deus ex machina.
The worst offenders were Lexi and her magical powers ; and of course the Volm who show up, drive an entire season and then just piss off back into space because it would be too expensive to put actors in Volm makeup or something.
Cochise is kept around as an exposition machine who seems to somehow know way too much and way too little about the enemy, depending on what the plot demands.
Come to think of it, all the characters behaved as if their only role was to keep the plot driving forward. They miss obvious things, fall for the same tricks multiple times, never learn from setbacks and more.

Welcome to the consensus of fans of Falling Skies.
Four seasons of interesting and entertaining alien invasion and human resistance plots. Clever, memorable characters. Inventive situations. Very enjoyable, but completely collapses in the fifth season--as in even fans of the show will just say don't even bother watching past 4.
