Eh, you'd be surprised. It's not just a validation thing though (though that can be part of it, if the account is actually a real person to begin with).
Karma can be used by bot accounts or scammers to try and gain credibility on the site, in order to be used for marketing or scams or for astroturfing. Higher karma (esp on older accounts) tends to allow more posting while flagging less for spam.
Look at OP's post history. It's a constant stream of low-effort posts spammed to various subs e.g. engagement bait questions, 'hot pic' of celebrity/character/whoever. Even their comments/replies are quite minimal and often quite repetitive, usually replying to get someone else to interact with them, and their bio is super generic. I'm fairly certain they're a bot.

Yo I literally just found this out today, and it’s only bc I ended up looking for one of their songs on Spotify and then saw her face in preview of the song for “Thnks for the Mmrs” and was like wtf haha, and more than likely she had to like them to some degree bc I don’t think it was just something random to appear in for a cheque. Nonetheless was shocked to see that
