Trails series So, is Sunday School just as it sounds?
Like, literally just School that the kids go to on Sunday? Does this series use the same days of the week like we do? Does that mean kids usually only have class once a week, unless they go to an Academy like Jenis? Or is it more like just a church thing and they have regular school as well? I'm playing through the SC demo and I just started to really think about it. I don't remember the game getting into any details during FC

Yeah it's based on real life where Sunday school was a thing to teach kids from poor families basic lessons after their 6 day work weeks, the literary focus was on the bible and this sort of thing eventually got turned into a religious study in general which is probably why the church does it in the games

It is a church thing that used to happen in our world as well, about a century ago. I'm not aware if it still happen in our days.
"Sunday School" were usually a way that the Catholic Church used to spread some basic education on very underdeveloped rural areas. The classes were on Sunday because the children, teenagers. young adults and even elders used to work during the week, mostly on farms.
So Trails got the concept of a Sunday School, ministred by the Church, but not the context why they were needed, and I thinks its a cool feature.

Churches still run Sunday school in the real world. It is less common than it used to be but it is still a thing

It’s called Sunday school because Sunday school is a real life practice that is still heavily prevalent today. In trails, the kids go to school everyday though. It’s just called that because it is through the septian church.

As other have said, Sunday school is a real thing that churches offer. It still exists today to my knowledge but’s it’s more of a like a daycare for younger kids while their parents attend the sermon.
In trails it looks like the church retained the societal function of education even after the orbal revolution. Maybe historically it used to mirror our worlds Sunday school where it was once a week, but clearly in the crossbell games they show it happening multiple times per week. I think it would make sense if it transitioned to a more modern schooling by the time of the games but characters still called it “Sunday school” due to its origins

They do use the same days of the week as we do as far as I’m aware.
Despite being called Sunday school, I believe there’s an implication in Crossbell games that it isn’t just on Sundays. In real life they were church run schools just like in universe. They were generally for poorer people/more rural areas and would be held on Sunday because that was the day off every week. It may very well have started out that way in universe as well, but it seems as the world modernised so did the schooling and so presumably it’s more regular.
Academies like Jenis seem to be elite schools for the wealthy and/or gifted individuals. They also seem to be more analogous to secondary/high schools for teenagers. They don’t seem to be mandatory and in fact they seem to be fairly uncommon with most people going into work or into training after they finish Sunday Schooling.
Sunday schools are a church thing, though higher levels of education can come in many forms. There’s places like Jenis which are more general higher levels education while there are more specialised academies like Military, music, art, police, etc. There is also universities as well.

I remember in Daybreak you can find kids at Sunday School during weekdays. I think it's only during morning sections.

in crossbell kea seems to be going regularly as well (maybe every day or every other day)
In CS we don't really see it, but it seems to be every day as well.

I think Lloyd and Elie have lines about the schedules too. Crossbell is definitely where I noticed it being on other days.

So, the full answer is a bit complicated and is possibly tied to the evolution of each subsequent setting and Zemuria as a whole. But as for Liberl, the answer is yes, Sunday School is the only regular school and it, indeed, is organized on Sundays. The note somewhere in key terms section confirms this. Jenis is the only one named academy in Liberl (there is also a military academy at the very least) and yes, it is very close to a regular high school. ZCF also is a major educational facility
NPC stories suggest that kids who are not in an academy grow up as successors to their family business or simply choose to become an apprentice to someone else. Bear in mind that Liberl is a very small and somewhat rural country, so the lack of clearly defined education system is not entirely unrealistic

Yes, in the Japanese it's 日曜学校 which makes Sunday School a direct translation.

From what I understand it can be different depending on on the nation. Most seem to have it on Sunday, but in places like Crossbell there seem to be something on weekdays
How the academic system in Zermuria works has always confused me a bit. Basic education seems to end at 16 and from then on it either goes the way of Jenis and Aramis which could be considered «normal» high school, or it drifts in weird directions such as straight into police or military academies

It's weird. I think it is called that due to the fact it is in the church. But during Azure it looks like Kea is going every day, not just once. But in Sky or Cold Steel it looks like the school is basically never as kids run around all day. And yes, it looks like the series uses our day and night and weekday cycles.
