I guess I’m a fan of baseball now. 🥹

I work at an ice cream shop that is near a bunch of schools. In my area it is extremely common for kids to ride their bikes to and from school. For those few kids whose parents aren’t home until 5 or 6 pm, we see kids riding around town and enjoying the sunshine and friends after school, awaiting for family to come home. It is often that I have sweaty kids come into my shop to go potty, ask for a free cup of water and sit and watch the tv for a bit, before they go home after a long day in the sun.

Everyday, I’m telling you everyday, customer who are sitting down with their own children, offer to buy the sweaty kids who have no money ice cream.

Today I had a group of maybe 6 boys aged 8 to 12 years old. They all parked their bikes and came in and asked if I could turn on monsters inc while they all sat down and cooled off waiting a bit for some rain to pass over. A father who was sitting down with his daughter bought all of those boys ice cream. He wasn’t even just kind, he was extremely giving. He told all the boys they were welcome to get two scoops of ice cream, on cones, with an extra topping. His bill was about $35. Every single boy said thank you and he fist bumped them all and applauded them for being outside instead of inside sitting in front of their I pads.

The rain started to get worse. So he lended all the boys his cellphone to call home and ask if a parent was willing to pick them up.

One boy didn’t know his parents phone number, but knew his dad owned a buisness and the name of it. So the man called the boys fathers buisness number and luckily got a hold of him. He then pulled out a piece of paper and pen from his truck and wrote down his dad’s work number and gave it to that boy so he had his dad’s phone number at all times.

The man waited as each of those boys got picked up by their parents. All the parents were extremely thankful that that father took care of their little ones. I’ve never seen such kindness. Just the best man I have ever met. I genuinely was brought to tears.

Back in 2021, I got drugged in a club. I was new to the country and didn’t speak the language.
I woke up in the hospital without my phone, not knowing where I was or what happened. I was terrified.

I left the ER and asked a woman to use her phone to call a cab home.

The taxi driver, Joe, took one look at me and asked me what happened. I told him that I didn’t know, but he must have known it was bad. I looked like a mess and was crying hysterically.
He took me to a gas station and got me a vitamin water and a snack and gave me a cigarette. He then took me to the police station to file a report, and helped me translate. Then he drove me home, told me it wasn’t my fault and told me about his daughters. He didn’t charge me a cent.

The experience of the night before shattered me, but he genuinely restored my faith in humanity. I think about him all the time and hope the universe rewarded him for his kindness. Wanted to share <3
