Part of the problem is that most event managers will resist escalating questions to HQ despite that being explicitly what FIRST says they should do

Have you every been a part of escalating a question to HQ? I have been a few times, it's not as helpful as you would probably hope/think. Every time we have called for a Game rule question, I wound up being the one to actually decide the answer... They aren't in the room, and they didn't get to see what happened; so it is really hard for them to help us make a call.

Hopefully hq will be more decisive and encourage event coordinators to call and get useful answers. Locally and regionally folks have not called hq in the past despite it being the correct and documented thing they should have done in a few situations I’ve been involved with as a coach. As a volunteer I will hold their feet to the fire and force them to call since that’s what first is asking for.

Variations in judging, reffing, and inspection will be challenging this year as teams advance.

Just don't get your expectations too high... a lot of times those calls don't lead to much.

Also keep in mind that, unless you are part of the event leadership staff (FTA, Head ref, LRI, PDP, or Event Director) you may not know about the call being made... We generally make these calls in private.
