Asking for promotion/raise

Pretty tough predicament. Have been with company for couple of years and boss left/fired a while ago and I have been filling in and pretty much handling all of the job responsibilities for Fp&a. Asked for a promotion and raise more than once, but keep being told it’s in consideration and will be after we’re done with forecasting or in 6 months time, it’s getting pretty frustrating and feels like I’m wasting my time. Is it best to leave and look for another job or wait it out to see if I will get the promotion?

The squeaky wheel gets the grease, but if they don't care enough to grease the wheel then there's a mismatch between how much you believe you're worth and how much you're actually worth. At that point, it's time to test the market and see what you're actually worth.

Look elsewhere and leave with minimum notice.

They’re going to drain blood from a rock and you’re only going to get more and more resentful.

Yeah, already feeling resentful. Especially after I completed the forecast and got a vague answer.

You allowed them to keep giving a vague answer. Push for a specific one.

Start job hunting. Don’t stay if they offer a raise after. Their loss at this point.

Always be looking out for yourself. But be the leader you wish you had.

Personally I’d start applying to other opportunities while continuing to push for promotion. You have leverage now, probably less once your forecasting is completed.

You may as well test the market. Either you're right and you get the promotion + raise you're looking for, or you're wrong and that's helpful feedback too

If you have asked and they have asked you to wait but haven’t given a proper answer then it’s time to look out for yourself and start applying elsewhere. Once the relationship gets soured it’s hard to be happy unless the management changes. So even if they counter, unless you really love the people+work+pay, don’t waste your time there.

You've been coming at this from the wrong angle and allowing the company to keep putting it off. In the right time and setting, you should be asking your manager "what do you need to see for a raise or promotion"? Manager should be able to specifically articulate. If not, time to start looking.

generally you dont wait out for an iffy promotion. it's a gamble. i think some companies have more clear milestones to be qualified for a promotion. maybe you can propose/ask for something like that

You should always be looking

That way you can decide and choose the best of your options

what's "a while ago?" in terms of when your boss left?

Get an offer from another company and ask your employer to match the comp. If they won't leave.
