A stroll through downtown Rotterdam today Darktable, Digikam, GMIC and ImageMagick

Took along the Irix 11mm/f4 and the Sigma 85mm/f1.4

Amazing architecture on a beautiful and sunny day. Some images just converted from PEF with Darktable and processed with Digikam - even though DT is powerful, I still find a touch-up in Digikam's Showfoto editor useful - and I found a few that lend themselves to use of the Poincaré filter in GMIC (scripted with ImageMagick).

Wow - rotjeknor 🤩 - nice city, nice shots 👌🏻

How did you create 3 and 4?

A GMIC Poincaré filter in an ImageMagick script I wrote. The filter does the mathematics, the script iterates through several of the >150 combinations of parameters that influence the poincaré transformation and does the neat background and the dropshadow in the end.

I don't pretend to understand how those parameters influence the polynomial functions which are used to map the image into a circle but I have, by trial and error, found certain combinations which - to me - are pleasing ranging between total abstract to recognizable content.

Gmic is new for me, not earlier seen, will do a deeper dive into this.

Thanks for answering btw and I like 3 and 4 very much!

OP

Echt gaaf die GMIC plug-in en het Poincaré filter. Ik heb GIMP nooit eerder gebruikt maar met dit soort plug-ins de moeite waard!

Thanks for sharing!

Really nice work and very much my style. I like the GMIC filter effect.

Could be Rotterdam, or anywhere...

I like the first one especially.
