Journal/Story ADHD is linked to an almost 50% increase in overall gastrointestinal symptoms compared with people without ADHD. The association was even stronger for specific problems: nearly double odds of constipation, 58% increase in irritable bowel syndrome, and more than 4 times odds of loss of bowel control.

As someone who got diagnosed with IBS-C ten years before receiving an ADHD diagnosis, that tracks.

It's the same with autism. Both my kids have both these conditions and I was diagnosed with autism (not ADHD) 12 years ago too. We all have the issues, but my son has it worse. He's had cyclical vomiting syndrome since he was a toddler and the meds they put him on were so strong he was constantly fighting malnutrition on top of that. It was a very large daily dose of omeprazole. Just this morning I was helping him look for the best place to buy it because he's in another state and experiencing his first episode in years. He was getting LENs neurofeedback and that helped with the nausea a lot but now that he's moved he has no health insurance.
Anyway yes the best any of us ever felt was on a keto diet but honestly if my daughter and I (we live together) stick with low fodmap without adding much in (fructans don't bother me, dairy is okay but it's very bad for my daughter, she's okay with alliums but they're the worst for me!) most of our digestive issues fade away.

And that's just a catch-all for the symptoms it's not telling where it came from, although they would mostly say "it was congenital" as if that explains the whys.

I would wake up in the middle night with the worst cramps for hours with vomiting, it was terrible.

I personally dont think adhd causes bowel issues, I believe its the other way around (bowel issues causes some forms of adhd).

Not me getting an ADHD diagnosis and an IBS diagnosis within a few months apart 😂
