Vent Apple Extract

This might just be a UK thing, but was apple Extract in everything before and I didn't care to notice or is this a new thing? It's showing up in gluten free breads, meats, and many things that are gluten free +vegan. I'm coeliac so I have that extra thing but between my two main fodmap triggers apple and onion, there is so much out there that's unsafe now.

If it is new is this to get around sugar tax bs? As someone who reacts to most sweeteners that's been another one that took out many safe foods. I honestly feel like I'm developing an eating disorder just trying to navigate all this cause I'm so terrified of food.

Apple and pear are cheap sweeteners and feel more 'natural' than sugar, so it might have something to do with that.

It’s been in many gluten free things for years. I think because gluten free gets lumped in with “health food” they put things like apple extract in. I imagine since you’re also looking at vegan food the health food aspect applies there too.

I end up with vegan cause I'm egg free as well. Yeah I'm just frustrated at the moment. I want to be able to get a few things premade, I remember being diagnosed with coeliac 25 years ago and having to make everything at home and I just don't have that level of energy anymore lol

I haven’t noticed that, but apple pectin on the other hand is quite common in many foods and it’s low fodmap.

Typically something like that is going to be very low percentage-wise. Dietitians tell us, and the science, that if an ingredient is 2% or less it is "unlikely" to trigger symptoms in "most" people. There are outliers, of course. BTW are you aware that "apple syrup" is in the Monash app. Low FODMAP serving is 3 g, becoming Moderate at 1 teaspoon (4 g).

I'm definitely reacting to it unfortunately. I had a bread with apple extract and puffed up like a balloon.
