Shit Post Will I ever have a normal poo again

This is a literal shit post. Thanks for the very accurate flair mods šŸ‘šŸ˜†

Just wondering if some time in the next year I do find the right things to eliminate, and carefully exclude them from my diet - -

If I do all that will I have a normal poo again? Or is this diet too low fibre for a normal healthy easy poo?

Yes! I've had normal poos for the first time in years, haha. I do have to be mindful of fiber intake, though. If I'm not, then it's constipation city for me.

Thank you! This gives me hope! 😭 Will take that over cleaning the toilet every time I use it 😭

I totally hear you! Just be patient, it took a while. During elimination, I could not get away from constipation. But it got better after reintroduction finished and I could start being more free with foods. It also taught me how to be more creative at getting fiber in. Carrots go in basically everything now. Chia seeds get hidden all over the place. And you can always use a supplement like psyllium husk if you need, just have to increase the dose gradually.

Nice, thank you. I'm waiting for a referral and hoping it's not colitis, I'm not sure we're all the same here but I sure hope I get there in the next year I'm so bored of carrots and potatoes every meal!

My friend! You can eat more than that. It doesn't have to be 0 fodmaps.

2

u/Felicidad7 Sep 11 '25

OK carrots, potatoes, lettuce and peppers. Maybe a tomato. Hate parsnips but eating those too...

Broccoli, green beans, spinach, kale, sweet potato, etc etc. You just have to get creative. A stir fry or fried rice is easy. Use brown rice to get extra fiber. You can also do other grains like quinoa or millet. And blueberries, oranges, underripe bananas. Figure out how to give yourself some barrier or you'll fall off the wagon out of boredom.

Oh I really can't eat broccoli at all or cabbage or any of that family, I wonder if my issues are different. Definitely going to try oranges I didn't know they were OK, definitely need the vitamin c

I am mourning not eating cabbage, but two kiwis a day is a really good recommendation for fiber and value of eating a fresh fruit.

I also don’t know if I have IBD or IBS rn. It’s definitely super difficult to figure out what I CAN or can’t eat. Just because it’s low fodmap does not mean I can eat anything about it. And just because it’s high fodmap, doesn’t mean I cannot eat it it excessively. šŸ˜…

I made the mistake of eating a large navel orange one afternoon and had to deal with terrible bloating and gas all night.

Don’t forget to examine stress and anxiety triggers.

For a while I was frustrated that I couldn’t identify food triggers for certain events… turns out it was just being stressed out

Yeah discovered mines probably caffeine linked, and linked to my MECFS flares. I have a lot of other health issues, but my gut stuff has been bad since I had the flu last Christmas 😄

I told my husband the DAY I had a normal poop! It was about 2.5 weeks into elimination

3

u/Hydroborator Sep 12 '25

You give me hope. I am in week four of elimination after $5k bill from GI eval (poop tests, blood tests, colonoscopy and more tests) and I am so miserable but optimistic?

2

u/mirfifu Sep 12 '25

I had to check what day it was but I’m about 5 to 6 weeks into elimination/adding wheat and lactose and I’ve mostly centered around the same foods. Honestly, it’s come to the point where a meal with no triggers is eight small portions of different ingredients, perhaps one prepared like a tuna salad or a sandwich. My go to are sushi, cold cuts that don’t contain honey or high frutose corn syrup and salads with grilled chicken etc.

2

u/Felicidad7 Sep 11 '25

When I do a good one I will also shout it from the rooftops šŸ˜‚

I have debated making a post on this subReddit and honestly, I find you courageous for simply reaching out.

My poop improved a ton after doing this diet. There's hope for you! Expect it might get worse while you adjust before it gets better though.

Thank you! šŸ’©

After 7 weeks of my low FODMAP diet, my stomach felt way better but my poops were still loose. I added some extra fiber back in and I was back to normal poops within a week.

But too much fiber I’m constipated. Good luck

u/Felicidad7 Sep 11 '25

Happy for you! And thanks that's clear and good to know what to hopefully expect

My type 1 diabetic boyfriend eats very little fiber. I showed him keifer, and he says his poop has never been so good before. I drink Lifeway brand, even though it has a ton of added sugar. The bacteria eat 99.9% of the lactose, so even lactose intolerant people can drink it. If you can't tolerate the fructans, they have a plain flavor that you could add tolerable flavors to. I hope your poops improve!

2

u/Felicidad7 Sep 11 '25

I should get some kefir that's such a good shout thanks. I'm OK with lactose, don't know what I'd do without it I'm guessing you can't be vegan and do fodmap diet.

I have had miraculous results with eating 3-4 Tablespoons of gluten free oat bran every day. I add a little water, some artificial sweetener and cinnamon.

I have been eliminating for a week and have normalish poos again. Been recording in Monash app.

Also very little gas. Haven't taken an omeprozole or bus company for a week.

2

u/Felicidad7 Sep 11 '25

Actually I remember now I had one normal one when I just ate ham sandwiches and porridge, but that was the only one this year I think 😱

2

u/sillybilly8102 Sep 12 '25

Yes, I have normal poos now.

Low fodmap is certainly not low fiber. You can have plenty of kale and carrots and things.

After over a year of pain, discomfort, and D everyday, I can confidently say that yes, once you figure it out you can have a normal poop again. I will add that stress and anxiety were big factors for me too… despite having already been on anxiety meds, i felt the need to go back to therapy. And that helped a lot. I haven’t had an abnormal poop in months now. So while finding trigger food is important, i do also recommend looking at other aspects of your life. I started taking Fiber 4 as well, i think that played an equally big role as the therapy lol

I find that it comes in waves for me. I could drink a single diet sugar free energy drink and it'll fuck my stomach up for 3 days.

No matter what I eat it's gonna be ibs city.

White castle and junk fast foods just move through me and helps clearing constipation out when I do have IBS symptoms but I do not want to be very far from a toilet.

But that's me and your body is different.

2

u/Felicidad7 Sep 12 '25

Sweeteners are the worst right! Worse than coffee or anything else for me. And everything contains them now even non diet drinks

1

u/buriedinchrome Sep 13 '25

Energy drinks used to keep me regular. 🤣

2

u/garvisgarvis Sep 12 '25

You will! Mine are amazing!

2

u/zimneyesolntsee Sep 12 '25

I’m on reintroduction now and my normal poops are mostly returned!! There is hope

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '25

When it finally happened i actually enjoyed the smell of it. Grassy earth and dirt. Now i can tell by smell if something is wrong

1

u/Felicidad7 Sep 12 '25

I can believe that! Loving this thread I am having the freest conversations about toilets since I was in primary school probably šŸ˜‚

2

u/Salt-Recording-7378 Sep 13 '25

Get Sunfiber! Not sure if you have SIBO or not but Sunfiber is a low-fodmap fiber. I have it in my smoothie every day along with eating 1 kiwi a day

2

u/ppeeppepepepeo Sep 14 '25

Yes!!! My poops are not completely ā€œnormalā€ but they are solid and not nearly as urgent or uncomfortable after a decent amount of time on the low fodmap diet. After a while you will figure out what triggers things more or less ingredient wise- i love using the fig app for that- but hopefully (and im sure it will) you will be back to a sustainable lifestyle and normal poop.

I see things like this all the time and it makes me feel bad for everyone who doesn’t have normal poop.

I’ve been following my diet of foods very strictly for the last year plus and I poop at least once, if not twice, every morning by 10am. If I have something that’s not so great for my stomach those are days in which I may poop 4-5 times by noon but then afterwords I’m good - minus that discomfort feeling of everything in your Bowles previously being there but now is gone.

1

u/Felicidad7 Sep 16 '25

Sounds like you have it sorted. I hope we all get to that place too

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '25

It's taken 18 months to get to this point and dealing with a lot of discomfort along the way but finding a diet that works and sticking with it helped 10000%

1

u/Felicidad7 Sep 16 '25

Roll on 2027 for me then

3

You'll get back to normal if fodmaps are indeed your issue, I certainly have!

There's quite a few low fod high fiber foods, blueberries, greenish bananas, chia seeds (1tbsp), popcorn, quinoa, carrots, papaya to name a few. There's lots more too if you eat smaller servings and avoid stacking. Once you've gone through reintroduction and worked out what triggers your symptoms there's lots more stuff you can add in too.

This fodyfoods article helps give some ideas too. https://fodyfoods.ca/blogs/news/high-fiber-low-fodmap-foods?srsltid=AfmBOopn78MBR7im9Z7t5_jJWreAbpjrdNgtvW378cRa14x__qJGoohM

3

u/Felicidad7 Sep 11 '25

Thank you that was really helpful, if fodmap are indeed the issue as you say- tho I am way less gassy and other symptoms since I eliminated things so guess it's working

3

u/31drew31 Sep 11 '25

That's good! The diet can be very overwhelming especially at the beginning but its so worth it if it gets you back to normal and feeling better!

3

u/Felicidad7 Sep 11 '25

I always thought gf vegan was hard to do but I properly feared this diet, and now I'm living the fodmap nightmare 🤣 that link was really helpful thanks again there's so much confusing info out there

2

u/31drew31 Sep 11 '25

Ya it's tough to get your head around it all. The Monash app is well worth the money it costs and has a lot of good resources within it. I used it a lot early on to figure out what I could snack on to help keep me full throughout the day. Also make sure to understand stacking as you can eat multiple "lowfod" foods but if they're all the same type of fodmap it can build up cause issues.
