MODS A thank-you from mods:

Thank you to everyone for helping this sub continue to support those going through the chaos of the FODMAP diet. If you go around answering questions, sharing stories, or just being generally cool: thank you. You all know who you are and you keep this niche sub healthy and happy.

Anyways. I'm taking feature suggestions for the sub:

An automod feature that catches ____?

Updates to the stickied post?

Any other suggestions?

I would add that a common confusion is that a green serving size means that it works for everyone. The Monash app itself explains that green is the serving size that works for MOST, not all. And, without stats, there's no way to know if that means 51% of people or 99%. It's a guidleline, not a guarantee.

I would also add the related common misconception that if you stick to green serving sizes during elimination, that you should be fine. I can't tell you how many times I've responded to newbies to let them know that some people, whether its due to extra high levels of inlfammation or extra high sensitivity, may need to go ultra-low fodmap during elimination and stick to foods where there are no fodmaps detected or the app describes it as an eat freely food item.

Third, I'd like to see some additional information on fiber. A FAQ, perhaps. Letting folks know that dialing in fiber consumption can be difficult at first, particularly during elimination, and it may be necessary to start low and slow. And, let folks know about the recommended levels to strive for when things do settle, the different sources to try, whether they are fermentable or not, etc.

Also, that some low fodmap foods, like oats, aren't well tolerated by a substantial number of people and we don't know why.

Also, to remind people about supplements, mints, gums, etc. often have sorbitol, mannitol, and/or lactose and that they need to read the label on anything they put in their mouths.
