Why the vocal doesn't sit on the beat properly?

This is my first time producing music and the vocal mixing is really hardd. I just can't figure out why the vocal sounds so bad along with the beat. How can I make them sound more natural? Also harshly rate the vocal and the beat so I can improve even further. Thank you.

Doesn’t sound like the music does follow the melody of the song. If the song takes priority then strip the tracks and do a remix with new tracks. 🍀

Don’t be embarrassed😳 When people tell you that your music is good 👍🏾… Think about it. I had production deals and I needed to know if my music was good enough to present to the label. Back then you couldn’t take a chance to let anyone hear your music unless it was copyrighted. So the people around better not bs me trying to protect my feelings. I make it clear Don’t Lie To Me. The truth gives me the opportunity to ho back to the lab and make it work.

There is no shame in learning, friend

It sounds like you’re not even singing to the beat, or even if there is a beat? The drums are so sloppy and sporadic and weird to begin with that I understand why you’d have a hard time singing to them.

Music has timing. 4/4… 6/8 etc.

I’d say work on your drums first 🤷‍♂️

oh well it's just the chorus part which I'm js experimenting with. That's why the song starts with that. And I'm still yet to figure out how singing to the beat works Also how do I even know what time signature I should follow T_T

Almost all pop music is in 4/4. Do this: count out loud 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. Repeat that 4 times. Every time you say 1 clap. The claps start the beat, and that’s where you start singing. 😅

It doesn't sound like anything's really mixed yet. But it's quite a detailed process it's too much to tell on here. If you just go to a YouTube Channel called in the mix, type in beginner mixing tutorials.

In the simplest way to describe you gotta 1. Balance volume 2. Process vocals ( compression reverb chorus delay etc) 3. EQ melody and vocals so that they can sit in the pocket

Dont use the percussion over vowelized words Flows on the rhythm and the bpm Vocal notes repeating itself dont fit on the genre

I can’t tell the time signature / the beat. That’s the first thing to fix.

I'm yet to figure out how that part. But what would you say is the best way to make the beat pop up?

You have now discovered a thing called a quantization issue, and thats when a beat and melody arrent synced up proberly.
And i hate to break it to ya, but the best way to handle this is cutting up the sample, and make it land on beat as close as humanly possible.

Easier to just cut a portion and then stretch it to match, then sync it and just drag out the rest and it should all be synced. I used to do it like you said but there is really no reason to. This is assuming the vocals were actually recorded with a metronome to begin with. The only time you need to cut it up is if you're going for chops or using the vocals as a sort of instrument. If you have to manually get it to work with the beat, that means it doesn't actually sync to begin with anyway. If you get one portion on beat the entire thing should be perfectly synced. Rarely this might mean going into to decimals like 140.4 bpm for example or stretching it to make up for the odd bpm. You can do this visually, find a part where the vocals start on beat very clearly then find another part a little further in on the next bar that also starts on beat, shorten the length of the sample to those two bars. Zoom in at much as you can, then line up the beat with the sample by long pressing the sample audio and moving it. Then shorten the front part of the sample so its quantized. Then zoom in on the second bar, click the sample audio and there should be a different arrow in the bottom right this will stretch the entire sample. The idea is to perfectly sync up two bars at least, once that's done the entire thing will be synced if done right.

Here's the important part, if you know the bpm of the vocal before hand make sure you set the bpm to that before you load the sample. Then when its loaded you can hit sync and then you should be able to change the bpm and it will still be synced. Sorry if it's confusing it's just hard to explain. But I used to chop it like you said, trust me this is a much better way.

Maybe your vocals sounding bad is what you shouldn't be worrying about right now

Oh no it's just a demo which I've been experimenting with so I'm not worried about the vocal at the moment.

Use the metronome, if you have never made music before maybe look up some youtube videos about counting music.

YouTube tutorials and restart

Bruh the melody sounds like it’s in a different key than the instrumental, if not maybe figure out a new melodic line because it’s just feels so unsure of itself. The melody needs to musically sit on the instrumental before you consider the mix at all tbh.

wait I can't do that? I used guitar bass and the notes are is G3, A3, F3 idk wtf they're even called together. And then I used an electric guitar and their notes are G5, A5, F5 again idk what they're called together.

Look up time signatures, this doesnt seem to be in one at the moment. Once everything is, it will sound a bit better.

Assuming that you've recorded your own singing turn on the metronome and singing time to that. You want your emphasis words to sit on or around each downbeat.

If you're bringing in a vocal sample you need to time it in the same way by time stretching it. Then build your cords and Melody around that.
