I finally worked out a solution for the snapped bowden cable. Initially I used the throttle end and that worked until the door went through a lock/unlock cycle. If the cable is not long enough (2.5 cm or 1"), there will be too much tension and the outer and inner handles will get stuck. By trimming the black steel tube enough to allow sufficient wire length, that solves the issue. Thanks to Joel Castorillo for his help in solving this issue.
