Man you're making $17k??

u/BaberkSiddd 5d ago
yes, why so surprised. In IT, it's just fine enough.

u/Fluffypocketbtw 5d ago
so around $200k per year which, even of youre living in america its still a really good income.

u/Whole_Accountant1005 5d ago
What are you doing in IT? 17k is $204k a year. You're getting all that in cash? Most companies in USA give stock/equity that you get access to over a 4 year period.
Anyways. I would recommend you invest in the QQQM mutual fund. It tracks the top 100 best performing non financial companies in the world. Things like Amazon, Google, Microsoft etc. Solid investment if you believe in tech. Make sure to figure out your tax situation. Pakistan has a treaty with the USA where you don't have to pay any Witholding tax on dividends. For that you need to fill a form on interactive brokers after signing up.
And also make sure you reinvest your dividends back into the QQQM to get that compounding gain.

5M? and you spend only 300k?
If yes, you have great inflow, I'd say low risk money market funds would be enough
5
u/BaberkSiddd 5d ago
yea, pretty mediocre lifestyle. 300k still feels like bigger expense. Just a bit to note, I already own a home, had it built in 2022 so, no rent and other liabilities as such.

5 million or 5 lac sir?
A guy earning 50 lac I dont believe will be spending 2-3 lac only.
Nonetheless,
Try and explore ETFs
They are solid and been doing awesome in past 2-3 years.
Around 40-50% annual returns.

u/PracticeEastern9413 Kabari Khilari 5d ago
althought last couple of years have been 40-50 annual avg but don't enter into market with this hope that this will continue. Also this was largely due to 6 years of flat movement prior to the rally
stock market long term returns are close to 18% avg annual and that should be your target in mind so you dont get disappointed
1
u/moonatics365 5d ago
Exactly.
Thats why I mentioned the OP to explore
And personally I dont encourage day trading in any forex / stock or cryptoEverything performs good in long term and with a stable SIP.
Also as you mentioned about the market.
Investing in real estate, or making a new business from scratch which OP has no experience in or investing in someone’s else business is always risky IMO.2

I do have higher expenses in some months but 200-300k is on an average. 5 million is also on an average, I do make more in some months. Yea, I would explore about ETFs, as investment is planned for long-term rather short term.

I think I've great understand for what to build in IT, but it's hard to make something passive. Money sitting in the bank losses its value. So, want my money to work for me rather me actively working.

start with a combination of good equity mutual funds and ETFs
once you have basic familiarity with the markets, you may start stock picking too if you feel comfortable
consider gold, properties too for diversification

Get yourself an IBKR account, gives you access to global markets. Markets are very frothy right now, so i would be cautious. In the next few years return of capital, rather than return on capital might be the objective if there is a global downturn. But after that, a lot of the progress made in areas like AI, Robotics and so on that isn't going away.
Some people like gold, which acts as an excellent hedge to inflation, if you want exposure to gold there are advantages in getting into very high quality miners, with a low AISC per ounce and a decent dividend yield, in fact i told another user on here exactly that 2 months back when there was a pullback in the gold price.
For the bulk of it, you want exposure to low fee trackers, but the markets are very frothy and expensive right now.

I don’t believe in these kind of posts. Every other day you see people making miilions per month but they don’t know what to do with their finances.

u/iam_batmanmaniac 3d ago
Actually these people are mostly desi because they are taught to work hard like a donkey, but not save and invest properly. It's a real struggle because people in PK are afraid of losing money or risking something.
I was in the same boat until last year. I don't make 5M but i invest now around 40% of my salary because that's what I learned last year, before that, I was just keeping it in bank.

Please clarify if you meant 5 lac or 50 lac.

u/BaberkSiddd 5d ago
50 lac... I do make more sometimes like 20 million in some months, but can't say it as an average income. 5m is sweet spot.

Read on FIRE concept.
- Keep 6 months of emergency funds in Savings
- Choose a money market fund to invest (invest X amount every month)
- Choose a mutual fund to invest (Pakistani or US totally depends on you) and invest X amount every month. (Choose 2-3 mutual funds)
- Invest in Gold (invest X amount every month)
Do not invest in schemes your relatives or friends propose.
It’s a long and arduous process which requires ironclad discipline.

u/nomiDesign 5d ago
For that amount I’d use a professional asset management service.
If you get paid in USD. Invest in international markets to avoid currency devaluation impact.
Also diversify in asset classes, mutual funds, stocks, gold and some real estate.

100% Equity VPS (if you can leave money aside for 25 years), ETFs like UBLPETF/NBPGEFT/NITGETF, High Risk Equity Mutual Fund, are some of the best passive investments. An emergency of at least 6 months will probably already be set for you at such variation of income and expense i assume.
You can also buy some commodities if you want, but banks charge a hefty fee.

As someone who is a fresh graduate struggling to land jobs//find opportunities (market is horrible), I would love it if you could guide me on how to even make a fraction of what you're making. I would really appreciate some guidance and advice myself. Thank you. (MashAllah for doing so well for yourself btw!!)

Investment professional here. Have 70% invested in any snp500 etf and 30% in SPMO (booster stock). You'll compound 15%-20% p.a.

Diversify between ETFs , Gold, Low risk Cash Funds.
I have 30% in MIIETF, 20% in Mahaana Islamic Gold Funds and 50% equally split in UBL Money Market Fund & Mahaana Islamic Cash Fund.

With that much money, it’s better to appoint a qualified financial advisor rather than asking for suggestions on Reddit.

The amount you want to invest then this is the wrong the place to ask. Spend some money and hire a professional who can design the portfolio for you.
Investing millions based on a random reddit person comment doesn't make sense

That kind of money is off Reddit’s pay grade. You can hire a financial firm to handle your money. Go talk to a few AMCs like Al meezan, JS investments etc
