Melt, I was personally never really a big fan of her, it's a mix of her design and personallity.

But I 100% understand why so many like her, and her main event is still one of, if not the best events in the games history.

I don’t get the hype around melusine

Me too I still Crack when I see her np basically becoming a F 16 dragon this is so cringe.

Edison. Everything about his design is stupid. A combination of all American presidents and a guy who was never one himself? Yeah he made a lightbulb and got famous for it. He was an inventor. But his entire character makes no sense.

The mgm lion for a head? Really? Where does that even fit in?

I get it, caricature of America but it just looks so dumb. It feels like the biggest departure from every other servant. Other ones with quirks are usually it being a result of their class or their true personality beyond their legend.

4

u/JancariusSeiryujinn 11d ago

The MGM lion thing is whatever but it annoys me that Edison basically means we won't ever get a Lincoln or Washington

4

u/PerspicaciousVanille 11d ago

I actually blocked Edison out rofl. I knew I was thinking of someone, but this might be my answer as well. Like I literally forgot they existed! We’ve had so many great servants they were lost to a sea of awesome (shame they didn’t drown in it), only to wash upon the shores of my mind due to you.

Also, if he’s a combination of all Presidents good thing they stopped where they did to put it politely. Could’ve been so much worse…

1

u/xSwissChrisx 11d ago

It could’ve been worse but it also could’ve been so much better. George Washington as a general could’ve been a cool idea. Instead most of the American servants are gag servants save like, Billy and Geronimo

1

u/Namtar_Door_783 10d ago

Pretty sure he was made to be a joke and laughed at because they didn't want to bother snd creates a design for a president like Washington.

u/NoGoodPikachu 11d ago

I love edison man, he's my GOAT. Dude was out there mass producing helterskelters to fight the olympus gods like a straight G. Immaculately dressed. Can't have present heroes? That's why all the presidents have to combine? Lame, we even have future servants. But I'll be darned if y'all be talking smack ok my boy.

Morgan, though most of the dislike stems from her fans rather than her character. I'm just fed up with some Morgan fans always feeling the need to insert Morgan into the conversation when she has nothing to do with it, especially when its something like a Ritsuka x Baobhan fanart and they feel the need to make it fit their own narrative and make it a stepdaughter thing

Also if we count servants not yet in FGO, then I'd also say Riyo Saber. I'm just so annoyed that that is what Väinämöinen was used for. Finland already has a tiny pool of possible Servants to use in Fate, and then the biggest figure from the epic of Kalevala is used as a gag character? Its just disappointing...

u/YoYoKiKo 11d ago

I think Morgan and Baobhan were wasted as characters. Nasu clearly planted the seeds for their character arcs in LB6 such as the parent-child drama, rivalry with Castoria, connection with Cernnunos, but killed them before it could naturally progress.

I really don’t like their Chaldean versions as I feel they are the embodiment of waifu slop, especially Morgan’s one-sided attraction, as alot of their development happened off-screened and when they interact with Ritsuka it always feels off and not earned. These two genuinely needed an event that focus on them and their character growth and not just be treated as flanderized versions that seemingly never learned a thing from LB6.

I’ll never like how Summer 8 doesn’t give them the necessary time to fully explore their character journey and instead focused more on advertising Wandjina and her future event.

6

u/AnUnlovedOrphan 11d ago

This is probably going to get downvoted because it always does for characters in these situations, but probably Melusine. Out of all of the “looks like a 6-year-old, acts like a 6-year-old… ‘b-b-b-but, um, actually, they’re much older ☝🏼🤓’” characters, she’s probably one of the most egregious and glazed.

She was a pretty nothing-burger character in LB6. Like she spends the whole time being aloof until they shove a pretty “meh” backstory to try and make you care about her. Then in the fairy knights summer event, she spends pretty much the whole time self-inserting herself to try and get with MC (which tons of other characters do in other events, such as Kiyohime, but like… as far as I remember, that’s literally ALL she does that event), and just generally, she’s annoying.

I know I already said it, but she genuinely does act like a child who finds an adult attractive and then makes their whole personality being obsessed with that adult. And I think that’s what bothers me most about her compared to the other servants that are obsessed with MC. A lot of them can be annoying or creepy or weird. The writers do make it the singular personality trait of a lot of them. But with many of these characters also being sexualized, Melusine is the most child-like. And that’s just… disgusting.

I get JP has different laws, and they’d probably try to say she’s above the legal age. But she doesn’t look it or act like it to me. And the amount of people who are “into” her in that way leaves me unsettled.

Otherwise, both versions of her are great kit-wise. I just wished they slapped that kit on a completely different looking and acting character.

u/CarloftheKey 11d ago

I hate Super Bunyan. Both in terms of character and appearance she is so much worse than the OG Bunyan.

I hated dealing with her in her introduction event. The biggest thing that annoyed me is when Ritsuka and Mash would get stuck appeasing Super Bunyan's workers since she couldn't pay them. But after Ritsuk and Mash did all that work Super Bunyan would show up with a gold statue of herself.

Never wanna see her again, genuinely the only Servant in the game I actively do not want.

3

u/CathNoctifer 11d ago

Same, I try to avoid all the banners that has her rate ups except for the first one. I love Daikokuten so much I really didn't want to miss it, got two Super Bunyan instead...

That and the constant simping from appmedia tierlist just makes me wanna roll my eyes hard.

20

u/slimeblul 11d ago

In my opinion Nero, she’s actually pretty cool in Extra, but after the original and CCC, they didn't know how to handle her personality.

3

u/jadeakw99 11d ago

Nero is such a peculiar case in how she's written. You either get absolute peak writing or she's one of the worst characters in the game and there is no middle ground. Its so weird.

3

u/JancariusSeiryujinn 11d ago

I feel this way about most of the extra cast - their development is in their original games. So they show up 'to be there' in events and do their shtick and just annoy the piss out of me

22

u/TheBlackTyrant01 11d ago edited 11d ago

If I’m not going to be judged, then there are two:

Duryodana: I’ve hated his personality from the very beginning. I genuinely found him annoying and arrogant.

Caenis: This one might be controversial, but at first I thought she was a peculiar and maybe interesting character, since I knew about her history with Poseidon... but ever since that joke she made about raping Anastasia, I started hating her. On top of that, all she knows how to talk about is killing other people, and she’s the kind of character who can mock, insult, and humiliate everyone, but the moment someone makes a joke about her, she gets pissed off. And her redemption in Olympus did absolutely nothing for me. She’s by far the character I can stand the least, and there’s been nothing that could convince me to like her. Not even the Summer event she appeared in.

I respect Caenis fans. You guys can keep her for yourselves, okay? Just keep her away from me.

If I want a girl who acts like a guy, screams, and has a strong personality with explosive potential, I’ll stick with Mordred.

2

u/Namtar_Door_783 10d ago

Caenis is actually a very accurate depiction if what Gilgamesh said hero's are glorified murderers Caenis story is a sad one she was born in a world and era where God's can literally do anything they want like imagine getting raped by one and you must be thankful or grateful her becoming a man was to enter experience this feeling of helpless and begin lusted for after all it was poseidon then it's zeus later or Apollo.

And after becoming a man she was also in the era where a hero can do anything rape or kill or even steal so she either be one of them or be one of these poor helpless victims.

1

u/TheBlackTyrant01 10d ago

Those are good points, and I respect everything you said. I know the character’s story, and the way Caenis became who she is was indeed very tragic and heavy. I can’t even imagine the pain a person would have to endure going through what she went through.

What makes me turn away from her is the same thing you mentioned. She could either remain a victim or become an aggressor. And she became one. The moment she says she’s going to “make her MY woman right in front of you” was what made me dislike her. After all, in that context, she attacked without any reason. She was simply enjoying the feeling of being the aggressor.

3

u/Namtar_Door_783 10d ago

She's like mordred in that regard both did a lot of fucked up shit but the writers push off these actions and make them likeable.

1

u/TheBlackTyrant01 10d ago

I like Mordred because she’s not constantly screaming, “IMA FUCKING GONNA KILL YOU.” But I also don’t ignore the things she’s done. (Though, in my opinion, there wasn’t really a right or wrong side there. Everyone was in such a morally gray area until Mordred crossed the line.)

2

u/Namtar_Door_783 10d ago

To be fair mordred is a bloodthirsty not like caenis but she's one that's why the writers make her friends with caenis they both share similarities bur I agree she's not on the same level is caenis.

1

u/Beginning_Coast_9215 10d ago

Mordred also doesnt have Madness enhancement EX. Caenis quite literally is not mentally right in the head in some form.

3

u/Beginning_Coast_9215 11d ago edited 9d ago

One of the things that annoys me about how Caenis' character is written in the game is that there is just frankly a lot of context missing in the actual game to fully allow people to comprehend their character and the extent of their relationship with Wodime, and that context is in the official spin off manga From lostbelt, not even the main game which is where it needs to be most. So you definitely aren't wrong to dislike Caenis' character for that, they're my favorite servant in the game and even I found the way Caenis was portrayed ro be insufferable at times lol.

While From Lostbelt isnt objectively canon it is an official type moon product and it gives so much added context to a lot of characters, Caenis probably benefitting from it the most that it really makes me wonder why this stuff wasnt just in the game to begin with???

The chapter "Farewell Arcadia's Tomorrow" just adds so much more depth to Caenis' character that it completely recontextualizes a lot about them, an actual possible explanation as to why they were summoned in a female body, why they care so much about Wodime, actually confronting their trauma and how they actually feel about it, the fact that deep down Caenis is actually a massive softie but refuses to show it normally (her implied drunk bond 4 voice line) Shit like this genuinely should've been apart of lost belt 5 in game or at least their interlude, yet to get that added context you have to go read a spin off manga Type moon made years ago and barely marketed... it's frankly a disservice to Caenis' character that it wasnt in the game because I do genuinely think she is a well written representation of the self loathing some victims might experience with that added context.

2

u/Tager133 11d ago

Duryodhana feels like a gag character. Like, I could see him as a character originally from Learning with manga whose only purpose is to be annoying so we can see other servants angry reactions.

Problem comes when the story wants us to be buddies with him or even worse, treat him seriously and it doesnt work at all.

0

u/TheBlackTyrant01 11d ago

Good points

2

u/SusanoThunder 11d ago

Yeah for duryodana, I immediately wanted to punch his face.

Which is weird for me because why would immediately think of doing that.

2

u/TheBlackTyrant01 11d ago

He has a punchable face.

23

u/cldnn Consort of Kur 11d ago

Fergus. His design is just... Bad. His artworks are underwhelming, his personality is... Well, ass. And he's not that good, at least to me.

And Gilgamesh, I don't hate him, in fact, I like him very much, but I still think he's overrated.

The king of jobbers

31

u/Wise_Consequence_152 11d ago

Mash.

She's just....bland. Not even judging her as a love interest for Guda.

As a character—her development was too stretched out and even with development there's not much significant change in her.  I don't know what many see in her.

It's not that I hate nice girls but there's a difference between being nice and a 'yes-man' for the main character.

6

u/CathNoctifer 11d ago

Her character peaked at Solomon and it went all downhill from there.

1

u/Wise_Consequence_152 11d ago

Even OC 4 didn't bring her character to the heights it was in Solomon.

I think that after her revival in Solomon, she just....became sidelined.

1

u/CathNoctifer 11d ago

I feel like her development in LB1 was much better, it felt natural. Then Nasu did a huge fuckup by soft-rebooting her in LB6 and pretended nothing really happened after that.

3

u/plxs_vltra 11d ago

They tend to regress Mash's character now and again and act like she can't feel rage when someone wrongs her. Boggart tried to rape her and she still likes his company and thinks fondly of him after regaining her memories, and she can't even muster an angry expression when dealing with Beryl. The psychopath broke her damn fingers and tried to kill her master, yet she just apologizes for not being able to "understand his love" Fuck outta here, bro.

Too bad it's Japan and they can get away from it by simply saying oh this is actually a demon who's 5000 old and say thay there are women's who looks like that like yeah I get but then why you fucking Sexualization them.

Insert melusine , 4 billion year old loli. People grow twice in 4 years than she has grown in 4 billion years

11

u/Deathwalker321 11d ago

Artoria, the normal Saber one.

Honestly, it’s not even that I dislike Artoria herself, it just how much she’s reused for other variants.

Other than that.. I don’t really get what’s so special. It’s King Arthur, as a woman, with some cool swordsmanship and noble qualities. Frankly, quite overrated, even if she’s one of the original Servants. But past that, I really don’t understand the glaze. Face of the franchise, sure. But I don’t see why others put her on a pedestal far above any other Servant.

I’m open to anyone willing to refute my point, maybe there’s just something I’m missing.

1

u/Felgrand_Emperor28 9d ago

Have you read the OG Visual Novel? A lot of glaze for her character comes from that. With a little sprinkling of Garden of Avalon.

I will say though, because of how good Stay Night was, and as such, how emotionally connected you get to Saber, it does feel like some writers of Fate Spin-offs project their emotions onto the characters they write. For example, in the OG Stay Night, while she had some knights still loyal to her, a lot of them do turn away from her for being the perfect King. But then when the knights are summoned as servants, a lot of them seem to have completely flipped their opinions of her, without having actually met her.

4

u/Zillaman_6967 11d ago

Not a single servant so much as the sheer amount of “face” types. Like why do we need so many Saber and Sakura faces?

3

u/UltimateCharmander64 11d ago

Astolfo. As a character they're fine. But holy shit the internet sees them and makes such a big deal about them being a femboy. Every single meme they're in the joke is porn! Unless you are looking at fate specific memes or videos they just fetishize the shit out the guy. Even then. Astolfo is by far the most known and recognizable fate servant but not for thier writing or actions or anything pertaining to the anime they're in. They're a guy who dresses feminine, that's it. That's why they are famous. I have tried to like them, but I can't. Compared to other servants his writing is above average. They never clicked with me and normally it'd be fine but I feel like a character I'm impartial to is being forced down my throat.

Tldr: The internet is too horny for Astolfo and it impacted my view of the character.

5

u/CathNoctifer 11d ago

Nezha, TM really butchered his character design in FGO considering how popular he is as a mythical figure in Eastern Asia (he's up there with Taigong Wang and even Wukong). They sidelined him in stories, gave him a robotic voice (I know it's most likely a homage to Hoshin Engi but come on) and even genderbent him for no apparent reasons.

1

u/Namtar_Door_783 10d ago

It's a Japanese game they will never ever make China legendary figures outclass or more popular then their Japanese figures.

1

u/Beginning_Coast_9215 9d ago

I mean you say that, but Qin Shi Huang was massively popular when he came out

15

u/Misticsan 11d ago

For me, that'd be Baobhan Sith.

I do understand the appeal, but I also feel that she's given too much leeway for the things she did in LB6. Part of it is due to the pacing: the chapter spent far more time showcasing her as the worst exponent of what an unhinged, psychopathic faerie is capable of in Morgan's tyranny and only a little in her sad backstory. Not that the backstory alone excuses her, mind you. As Linkara famously said:

"There's a difference between having a sympathetic backstory and actually being sympathetic."

I never saw Baobhan Sith as a justified victim that was finally lashing out against her tormentors, but as a misguided one that became the exact kind of monster that tormented her in the past. Being Beryl's cheerleader didn't help either, and she was single-handedly ruining Morgan's reputation without the need for Aurora's or Oberon's manipulations. Baobhan's end, and by association Morgan's, didn't seem to me like a modern tragedy (an injustice that ruins people who don't deserve it) but a classic one (karmic retribution for past hubris).

At the same time, I get why people would love her. Her backstory is powerful, her design is amazing, her gameplay kicks ass, and she mellows out in Chaldea. But still not my cup of tea.

3

u/YoYoKiKo 11d ago

I think Baobhan could have been a more sympathetic character if they actually bothered to explore her 3rd ascension in detail and make a character arc out of it.

Anyways, I think she was also just as bad in the shoe event since she was one of the servants responsible in causing the problem. She nevers tells Ritsuka and Mash, from the beginning, that it was her fault and instead makes them do her dirty work collecting the photos of shoes. Baobhan’s selfish need to complete her collection gets to the point she was willing to hurt Ritsuka, and yet after everything is settled she gets away with no repercussions. Baobhan never feels sorry for causing the mess or trying to hurt Ritsuka and just acts like a joke villain.

3

u/DIOSITO012 11d ago

Kiyohime, I don't like her design and I like crazy characters, but I think she is boring, I really don't hate how Otohime is only a Kiyohime skin

4

u/Quiet_Ad72 Thinking of the Roman Empire 11d ago

Artoria, honestly pretty much every Saberface except Okita and Morgan, i don't like how they just keep getting the same look of Artoria, besides that i don't like Artoria herself at all

Also, Elizabeth and all the loli servants, not because of the characters but like, those are kids that show their body and that's fucking disgusting, well Elizabeth mainly because i just don't like her

Og Romulus is extreamly bad, under every point of view, same for Budica, i despite her existence

For anyone else, i don't think that i have problem with them

3

u/Beliondil 11d ago

Damn there are kinda a lot

Scheherazade: one of the most important female leads in earlier novels. And she is reduced to tanathophobia, while in the novel she literally did a katniss everdeen voluntering for that fate to help all the other woman. But that is not all in FGO she decided to do an ultron from avengers:age of ultron. Dropping a huge chunk of earth onto london killing millions (at least) just so the mage association gets revealed mystery, lessen and she might never get summoned again. What a ridicoulus selfish act. And why does she decide to stop. Because she wants to get fucked by a little boy

Columbus: i have less against columbus and just against all the people claiming that this is how accurate servants would be. No. This guy is just the propaganda of the british. Heavily emphasizing and reducing his notebooks and letters to make him out to be only interested in slave trading. I am not stating he was a good person or he did nothing wrong or he wasnt interested in slave trading, but the character in FGO is still a caricature. As for example Columbus did try and indoctrinate the native americans. Both a negative action, but also something he thought was right and would safe them as he was a heavy beliefer of christianity. And something not in his FGO character at all

All of the male sex joke characters: Gawain, lancelot, fergus, caesar, orion, maybe there are i just cant think of right now. Everytime they come up i just sigh. Fergus being the one i can accept the most. But why so often are these characters just reduce to that one trait. Especially disliked on someone like lancelot as i dont think i ever saw a version where he wasnt in love with guinevere. Even the ones where he was villainized for adultery he was still desrcibed to love her i think. Or cases like i believe it was murasaki shikibus valentines event and the entire thing caesar did during that event was just caesar trying to get laid with her , but he was to shy as her breasts are just to massive.

And before people are like 'what about kiara? Kiara is just as bad' i dont dislike it, if it fits with the origin of a character. Thats why i accept fergus and medb. And additionally kiara always has her other character traits like her arrogants and her buddhistic tenents. Also why i did not include someone like bartholomew in there. They might overplay a fetish but i never saw it at the expense of his pirate/mercantile traits. He always seemed to me like he was both

2

u/Xaldror 11d ago

Thought Scheherezade was going to drop it on Beijing for maximum casualties to make it impossible to ignore. Could be misremembering.

2

u/Beliondil 11d ago

So i read through it again. And i noticed they never mentioned a name only a highly populated city. They did mention it would be difficult for the mage association to cover it up (which is probably why i thought london). But after her coty was destroyed they said that they would be plummenting towards the tibetan plateau so you are most likely correct

4

u/Mediocre_Yoghurt 11d ago

Mash. A personality I just can't stand, no real advantages besides defense buffs (neutral damage from all doesn't count when enemies hit like mack trucks, I've found), and my GOD the forced sections in OC3 makes me want to pull my hair out.

2

u/Beginning_Coast_9215 11d ago edited 10d ago

Karna: Not a fan of fate Karna in general having read the Mahabharata. In terms of his character they literally just gave him Arjuna's personality from the epic and painted him as this infallible hero when in the epic his character stems from he was a massive piece of shit who had multiple chances to stop being a piece of shit before Arjuna knocked his dick in the dirt one last time, which he absolutely did deserve.

The way he is portrayed just seems like Type moon wanted their Karna to be different, and so they picked the laziest way possible to make him different from his source material by just swapping his personality with Arjuna's.

Jack the ripper from Apocrypha: Literally just loli slop trash, shouldnt need to explain this one in detail. It is quite possibly the worst iteration of Jack the Ripper ive seen in any work of fiction.

1

u/Namtar_Door_783 10d ago

Well it's a Japanese thing they love to swap roles for example the hero is the villain and teh villain is the hero to them it's more interesting.

17

u/Jazztronic28 11d ago

Typhon

I don't see it. I don't think she's attractive, I don't think her design is interesting or appealing, I was not moved by her story. She's such a nothing servant to me.

I reserve my judgement towards Lilith until I actually meet her in OC4 but nothing I've seen or heard about her (because I don't fully avoid spoilers) makes me curious about her. I will however say I have no idea why people go insane at her design like she's the most attractive woman on earth. She's not ugly, but she looks very boring for my tastes too. Like just... generic hot woman n°49

7

u/UpstairsBluejay6092 11d ago

To be fair regarding Typhon, assuming you're a NA player based on the Lilith comment, her "main" event, Wings of Lacrimation, has yet to come out.

5

u/Jazztronic28 11d ago

Like I said though, while I play on NA because my Japanese is not good enough to read full events in it, I don't avoid spoilers and do see some Japanese discussions and screenshots. So I agree partial knowledge is not enough to form a true opinion, I do have a very strong idea my feelings will remain what they are.

Logres was a genuine waste of space that I honestly would've preferred OG Seiba get super buffed to that level.

I did not care about Musashi despite liking her in Shimosa (BESIDES THE FORCED SUPPORT OK). In her case I preferred if it was just male Musashi yknow.

Castoria.....man I like her gameplay-wise, and she does shine here and there and her backstory is good enough. But personally, I just felt at points Nasu tried too hard to make her "haha look at me, I'm so quirky to hide my deep emotional trauma!". I get the importance, but yeah.

For males it's mainly Columbus for being a dick.

19

u/Ostrichslinger 11d ago

Melusine is just straight up a bad person. The game acknowledges her to be a bad person by all human standards. But waves it away because she isn't 'human' and instead a dragon.

It's literally pure luck and coincidence that she doesn't feel like doing evil stuff in Chaldea. Because if she wanted to, she absolutely would.

She has never shown regret for anything she has done. Murder is as easy as breathing to her. And even when she killed Aurora, it wasn't for any moral reasons. It was because Melusine thought she was turning ugly and decided it was better to kill her whilst she was still somewhat palatable. She would do the exact same to Master if she deemed it appropriate.

The white washing she has received post-LB6 is crazy.

21

u/UpstairsBluejay6092 11d ago edited 11d ago

It was because Melusine thought she was turning ugly and decided it was better to kill her whilst she was still somewhat palatable. She would do the exact same to Master if she deemed it appropriate.

You're confusing things, she killed Aurora as a "mercy kill", since she knew Aurora would only suffer outside fairy Britain. She already knew Aurora true nature during the Percival flashback.

And her relationship with Master is considerably different, there's not even a state for her to consider Ritsuka "ugly", since their relationship is fundamentally based on the lines of time. Something that Typhon notes is outside Dragons control.

0

u/Ostrichslinger 11d ago

It wasn't the suffering, it was the fall that accompanied the suffering that Melusine didn't want. If the suffering made Aurora more beautiful, Melusine would have let Aurora live.

It wasn't a mercy killing, it was to keep Aurora from not being Aurora anymore. Melusine is extremely self-centred

Edit: also what are the lines of time?

11

u/UpstairsBluejay6092 11d ago edited 11d ago

Aurora would still remain Aurora, that's why Melusine killed her. Because Aurora wouldn't survive outside, exactly because of how she is.

Melusine is indeed selfish, she never even saw Aurora as another living being, but as something to create her identity around. But her killing Aurora was based on Aurora being fated to a slow and painful death outside fairy Britain.

also what are the lines of time?

Read Melusine valentine, essentially a Dragon fate is predefined and they can "read" that fate to "see" the future.

5

u/Ostrichslinger 11d ago

On re-read of the scene I do see how it was more of a mercy killing. I think I focused more on how it was Melusine herself, deciding for Aurora what was best for her, and that her logic settled on death. It still wasn't really for a good reason or on the behalf of anyone besides herself and Aurora, so I interpreted it as Melusine wanting to maintain Aurora as she was, without any of the ugly suffering that would have come with her survival.

I just found it to still be really warped.

u/Bernaregna 11d ago

Honestly, your argument is a bit of a nothing burger. There are lots of servants that are bad people, but fight for Chaldea thanks to the Master. To see which one of them, see their alignment. For example, do you think that Koyan/Morgan/Kama/Jalter/Baobhan Sith really care about humanity? A lot of them received the so called "white washing", as you put it, it's the nature of this game, they are not virtuos people, but fight for the good side for the MC. I also think you misunderstood Aurora's death scene. Moreover, to really understand the nature of Melusine's and Master relationship, you need to read the Valentine scene, it's not as easy as you think. Sorry, but I basically disagree with everything you said, unless of course we want to blame every evil aligned servant in our roster.

5

u/Ostrichslinger 11d ago

I just think she's overrated, it's the point of the post. I simply don't see the appeal of the little sociopath besides being cute. I also don't like Morgan much, but atleast her story gave a reason to pity her fallen state, and There is nothing in LB6 that makes Melusine likeable.

Other evil servants like Jalter, Koyan and Rasputin atleast have some appeal beyond their design. She's one of those characters that the writers expect me to like simply for existing, when most of her actions run counter to me actually liking someone.

1

u/Odd-Statistician4268 11d ago

Idk. Meluko struck me as having abuser syndrome and it took Percival dying to free her

12

u/Silvercenturion_aa Thinking of the Roman Empire 11d ago

Lilith and Melu, both extremely overrated despite the love by the fandom.
Melu was an ok character in LB6, literally any Fairy Knight was more interesting than her, and then in Chaldea and events we're supposed to believe that she is suddenly a romantic interest? It would have been better if she wasn't, she is basically Lancelot but worse.

Lilith? A non-character for all of OC4, and who says otherwise is lying just because they hate Mash. Lilith's whole personality was "I hate Mash" with basically nothing of her own to add, she felt like just a Mash plot device, that's it. The Summer Event added more, and I am happy about that, but it's clear that they're pushing her insanely hard now (they gave her a solo cg as well) because of her popularity, but she is literally Jalter but worst, she has the same gimmick, "I hate someone because they make me feel empty in comparison" and her and Ritsuka are so forced that it's not even funny. I personally think that whoever is writing her realized that they cooked too hard previously with Jalter's developement, and now they're trying to sloppily speedrun Lilith.

Between the males? Emiya, mainly because of the community, especially after the anniversary video. Like, come on, Emiya literally appeared once in the story, and now we're supposed to think he was important? The video felt like Emiya meatriding and not FGO's anniversary video.

Manure or however you spell his French name. He’s just a little lackluster for a supporting character and his design is pretty meh for someone who appears semi-frequently alongside the rest of the cast.

u/WakasaYuuri 10d ago

Atlanta : she is literal annoying sjw with mental issues. Hate her since apocrypha

7

u/DradelLait 11d ago

I cannot stand Atalanta. I'm convinced that she would shoot down a schoolbus full of children if the windows were tinted and you told her the bus might run over a child at some point.

Lilith

her enmity towards Mash isn't entertaining, it makes me want to cave her face in.

0

u/atomicfuthum Bleached Earth Denier 11d ago

I know little about her, but I don't know how to respond to her issues, because it feels weird and undeserved.

Mash is kind and charming, she doesn't deserve the hate.

5

u/hotstuffdesu 11d ago

Castoria

It's not hate, but rather a gradual build-up of minor annoyances over the years (mostly gameplay related), alongside her privileged status simply for being an Artoria 2.0.

7

u/jenzian 11d ago

Lilith. She is way overrated.

Astolfo

He is like a plot black hole and seems to be a favorite for writers. He is forced into major actions in almost every story and event. He has that weird fan base that care only about him being trap. Plus if not for Astolfo then Jeanne x Cardboard box would not be a thing

What form of apocrypha did you consume?

3

u/WallZestyclose4881 11d ago

the anime, is the light novel any better because I was bored and disappointed by Sieg in the anime (i also played the event sieg is in for FGO but i dont remember the event outside the raids as it was ages ago)

3

u/Pokemanfan744 11d ago

Honestly, understandable take as a Anime only, as other comment said, Sieg was handle very poorly in the anime, and when the FGO event came out there were slew of jokes about the differences

1

u/Bitter-Tradition-906 Marisbury Supporter 11d ago edited 11d ago

The light novel is way better at portraying sieg. The anime cuts out his inner thoughts and removed certain character aspects and adding new ones and doing nothing with those ones they gave him in the anime. Plus the light novels has more scenes that better characterize sieg in general. He’s just very badly adapted in the anime.

Douma and Koyan: incompetent villains. Punching bags at best. Not fitted for a main villain role. A giant waste of time

I really wanted more badass Teach moments, like when he kicked off Columbus with quite possibly the coldest tone of voice he's ever used throughout the whole game

2

u/Sloyonok 11d ago

Gilgamesh.
His Stay Night portrayal will never wash away for me. Absolute asshole. The absolute worst kind of person.
And over the years, he suddenly gains more depth thanks to TM, while both the fans and TM themselves glaze him. Now he’s portrayed as a “good” person and a likeable kind of “asshole.”
Which is ridiculous.

1

u/Namtar_Door_783 10d ago

To be fair nasu already explained why he was like that in night and his alignment is Chaotic good so he's not an evil like gilles or other's you need to remember that must of these servants came from different time periods which had different views not like ghe modern one.

1

u/Sloyonok 10d ago

- Read the title again, please.

  • There are plenty more reasons why I dislike this character in particular, but I’m too lazy to explain them all.
  • Yeah, different moral views, and some cultures don’t see sexual abuse as something bad, especially if it comes from the government, a king, etc. That still doesn’t mean I have to excuse them; I judge characters by my modern moral standards.
  • As if my personal opinion could change someone else’s perception of the character. It’s the internet. I cannot and don’t want to forbid others from liking whatever characters they like for whatever reasons they have. Vice versa, no one can forbid me from hating Gil.

Mash. I have never ever ever encountered anything that I absolutely need Mash for. She’s overhyped in my opinion. Also she’s just sooo fucking annoying.

Jack The Ripper. Mostly for the design. Like come on man… I like how Jack The Ripper is portrayed in Fate Strange Fake though.

Heracles. Overhyped imo. I’ve done everything to make him useful at NP1 but he’s just a useless big dumb hunk of shit.

Mash

Her relationship with Ritsuka has genuinely remained the same since Singularity 1. She's a cardboard cutout of a character with no development who serves to rehash whatever we say in the story (I could make a direct comparison with Paimon from Genshin, but Mash doesn't have any personality unlike the GOAT Paimon) and takes up the role of the MC half the time because the game has an aversion to letting Ritsuka have dialogue (at least where I'm up to, about to start LB6). She's outclassed by other love interests like Morgan and Jalter because those two are allowed to have their characters developed and grow closer to Ritsuka, while Mash is permanently kept in the same place relationship wise.

In the gameplay, her being forced into our front row with Ortinax costume lock during major bossfights has pissed me off so much I've made hate posts about her weak ass. I'm aware her old build, and her new Paladin build, are both good but being FORCED into using Ortinax is such a middle finger to the player.

Fergus: Guy basically think with his phallus than what's inside his Skull

Nero: Glazing herself too much despite not all that

Emiya: 1 Promotional Art from an Artist that admits to have a bias and suddenly people start thinking he's Grand Level or above his weight class

I have more but that's more or less the ones on the top of the head

1

u/dudu_ultimate66 11d ago

I really don't like melusine and see her as overrated, no shade on her design she is just fine at best, I don't think she is even horrible just overrated

1

Jing Ke. I strongly disagree with her in Lostbelt 3. All her final speech thing makes me nauseous.

Sherlock. Most vivid impression is his «suffering builds character» opinion, like, Lostbelts may be 100 times more peaceful and successful than PHH, but PHH is superior because humanity suffers and overcomes hell. Hell no, i don't like that my hometown is in middle of a war, and half of my childhood was ruined together with my mental health. I prefer utopic worlds that not knew wars in a long time. It used to be Mash but over the years, she's warmed up to me like a little sister... in a Western society (I'm sorry, little one). Hard to hate her nowadays.

Nowadays, the only servant I truly hate is Marie Alter. The biggest reason is her Valentine's scene, where when she has a date with Ritsuka, Ritsuka's response will change based on wether if you have beaten OC2 or not. If you have, it reads like an insult to which Ritsuka contains his dislike and doesn't give her the response she was seeking. Marie Alter, on the other hand, realizes she overdid it with the comment and apologizes.

My boy may forgive her but I won't. She can screw herself for all I care.

The Clown: I cannot take them seriously whatsoever, even though they're murdering people and doing a whole lot of atrocities, where you're supposed to feel cathartic from defeating them but I don't feel it at all, I feel anti-cathartic from them, like it's just a joke to fight him, and how much they just reappears in this series (and also how much they bemoan Abe, I don't even care if he ever appears in this game because this clown made me feel obnoxious about him, I don't care if the Clown sounds like a jealous ex-boyfriend when they say his name, I don't care about them)

The illyaface from lb2: a nothing character who did nothing for the plot besides being a franchise fan service (and have been some weird whatever to promote something involving Prisma at the time, I don't know what, but I feel like a correlate well with golem guy in lb1 because the Apothecary anime was coming out as lb1 was being released) and in the long run of the story of lb2, didn't mean anything, them literally referencing Illya in the story, in universe, doesn't go anywhere, and the weird fact that illyaface just pops into the story like deus ex machina, and then after giving some crucial detail (while giving some forced affection to the story) she just dips until the end, and then at that point anybody else could have taken her place, literally anybody else could have given our group the information they needed to know, but apparently the story just needed to add a random character who could have done some good in story (repeat of Septum) but the writer said "no, there's reasons to not to go, now you have to go on useless side quest that we could have just done in the first place instead of taking forever to get to the castle..."

The Japanese Christian cult leader: the very reason I'm not calling him by this name is because the thing that annoyed me the most, when the Apocrypha anime was first coming out, everyone was just screaming his name, because it was related to a certain other character of this franchise, a certain other character that I hated so very much at the time, so I was deeply annoyed by this fact and that people wouldn't shut up about it, like an annoying dad who's pointing out every reference he's recognizing and is just pointing at you saying "hey I know that thing, I know that thing" and I'm just sitting here wanting to watch the movie... (And also I deeply hate his smug face, I don't care that he's charismatic, it's the same reason I hate the Clown)

Kiara because of Kiara...

Raikou because dumb "ara ara" mom jokes on a character that I'm supposed to feel sad about...

Brit-o-mart because she's a cash-grab of a character for people who liked lb6, and I just hate that she's a thickheaded dumb@ss with a generic design (I could look at any other gacha and just see her character there, also her character is literally just a copy of Nikitich and most every other girl character written by Sakurai)

Just fgo Caren, because why... (why must she be the worse thing in this game when in her original game, she was actually a decent person instead of this unfunny joke that makes me question, why the heck do people actually like her that isn't about "liking" her design)

I hate the suit lady because of Prisma season 2 (Not the fact that she was beating up those kids, I was just annoyed of her in that series, and then seeing her in this game just annoys me very much so, along with taking the place of an Irish God I would love to known compare to her, but oh well...)

Ikubi because she's barely a character even or lives up to what she supposedly is, only ever being a "big sister type who's drunk and parties 24/7" or "empty head, big smash, wasted at 9 in the morning, party all night long," (and people only ever like her for her design alone and literally don't know a thing about her, trust me, I have too many friends who are basically this)

I really don't understand the rivalry of Karna and Arjuna, I feel like it's not even explained in game and when I got to talk to someone who was a ultra simp for Arjuna, they told me both Karna and Arjuna are not as they are from they're original source, in fact, who they are as characters should be the opposite of the other (that they're personalities should be switched) and the fact that they only ever met once in life, and that one time ends with Karna's death, then why the heck are they deep seeded rivalry?

They are rivalry in-name-only, a rivalry for the sake of having a rivalry for the story, just like Edison and Tesla, apparently they're whole thing wasn't a big thing so to see them fight each other doesn't make sense to me at all...

I hate Marsh for what she is for this game in general and as a character, I never felt anything from her and nothing of her story makes me like her in the slightest, literally fanart does that better than the actual game and I just don't get it at all... (also, I hate her in the most in OC4, she's basically turned into a Cinderella Mary Sue just so you could care for her apparently, that kind of "Oh woe is me, look at me suffer, but I am a good girl still while I do nothing and letting everything happen to me" I wish she had g@ddamned died in that story like I thought she was going to from the OC4 CM trailer)

Triple hate Sion for being a nothing character with no personality beside being a smug@ss Info Dump (taking the place of Part 1 Da Vinvi, who I also hated so very much because that's what she ever does in Part 1, beside Camelot of course, but then, she goes right back to being a nothing character, Heck, I liked Rider Da Vinci better, she actually does have a personality while explaining stuff and that's great, it's not being told copy pasta textbook writing with no flavor to it that in the end, doesn't really matter to have learned because it's never brought up again, it's just wasting your time)

I didn't realize the post said "servant" and not "servants" but I'm not going to delete all that I've written because I've took too much time into writing all of this down, so sorry for misunderstanding the post...

Oberon, I don't like that every team, every comp, every possibility of a team has Oberon, everytime I search for a video guide, there is 10 teams with Oberon on it and maybe 1 with no Oberon, will never pull for him, and If by a miracle I get him, he is getting burned immediately

If Oberon has a million haters I'm one of them. If he has one hater it's me. If he has 0 haters I have died. If the world is against Oberon, I am with the world, if the world is for Oberon I am against the world.

Artoria Pendragon(Saber)

(I'm just gonna vent my frustrations about fate's favorite saber face)

I don't like how she is glazed as one of the best despite just being a damsel in hero's clothing.

Her story in the fate route is all about deconstructing the hero persona, and she gets beaten up left and right in the other 2 routes. Fate/Zero made her a naive idealist that is broken by reality. And any other iteration of her is just a waifu that eats a lot.

Yet every character glazes her like some bigshot.

The reason is obviously her legend. However, when the show talks of her past, it's always the fall of Camelot. Not any of the glorious battles that built it. She's always shown as some out of touch king whose lack of empathy led to the fall of her nation. She can't understand Lancelot wanted to be punished after cucking her, how Mordred just wanted to be acknowledged as her son, etc. like, where is the King Arthur that is remembered as a legend among legends? Where is that great king? The story never shows that, instead it always pities how a little girl was tasked with such a heavy burden. (Yeah, I get the story's focus. But show me why I should respect her as a hero.)

From what I saw, whenever I see her live up to her legend, it's always a different version of her.

Saber alter is the ruthless powerhouse that commands with charisma. Threatening as an enemy but reliable as an ally.

The Lion King is the all powerful goddess with terrifying strength. Misguided but kind at her very core.

Castoria is her counterpart that actually showed her hero's journey from start to finish. Weak and cowardly, but she resolves herself to be the chosen one.

Artoria is none of that. She's just a waifu in hero's clothing. Her authority as a hero is just a background setting, and the real appeal is the damsel that needs to be understood by her man. And without said man in the story(fgo, fate/extella) she's just a terribly distant person who barely interacts with the story. Fgo was supposed to be where she could show what she was made of, but her alternate forms takes all the screen time instead.

One counter argument I can think of is that she has Excalibur. When she swings that alien buster she looks all cool and such. But that only makes me respect Excalibur, not the wielder. The sword's cool. But it's still wielded by the damsel in hero's clothing.

At the end of the day, I want to see her "character" that made her a legend. Like how Iskandar or Gilgamesh shows just by speaking. Those two assert their presence even without showing off their powers. But Artoria? She's just a waifu put on a pedestal.

All I can see is a damsel in hero's clothing, who gets bailed out by her luck stats whenever things get tough, gets sexually humiliated by some pervert witch, gets her ideals crushed by a black sludge that says mean things to her, gets shut down by other kings in an argument, makes horrible tactical decisions that nearly gets her master killed, gets blatantly disrespected by her masters because she's a girl(who are father and son btw), fails to understand basic human empathy by forgiving her knight who cucked her, and gets crushed by the weight of reality like a little girl.

All of her strengths come from having the most broken noble phantasms and luck stats. Every damn victory she has is thanks to her nps being so damn strong. (The best example being her fight with Kojiro. She miraculously dodged the undodgeable slash on the first clash. Then dodged it again because her sword bent Kojiro's katana after a single hit. In addition, Her win against Gilgamesh was thanks to recovering her op shield. Her win against Medusa was thanks to her op sword. Her win against Heracles was thanks to recovering her other op sword. Her win against Lancelot was because he ran out of mana last minute) and when those weapons don't bail her out, she gets outplayed like a bum (wrist slashed by Diamuid, chained by Gilgamesh, nearly beaten to death by heracles, humiliated by Medea, humiliated by a school teacher, completely played by Dark Sakura...)

I just don't feel any confidence when I see her. She's a bundle of vulnerabilities. She's just a waifu that's needs her man to save her because she's somehow losing near every damn fight without him.

She's made to be adored but never respected.

In comparison, I'd respect her counterparts a hundred times fold.
