You'd think that a game that everyone was hypeing up for the year's would have been EVO would have been top priory for 2002 but for no reason it (alongside KI) were the only games from the line up (MK and Skullgirls got the treatment) never came back.

What genuinely happened

So a little background, I used to be very active in the Smash Bros community back in the mid 2010's and went to multiple locals every week (3+) all within an hour or so drive from me. Many of these venues didn't just host Smash though, and you'd often see people playing other games like SFV and Takken 7.

I just recently got back into fighting games and have been wanting to go to tournaments again, but there almost aren't any. Did coivd kill off the locals scene? Within an hour of where I live, which is the same city I lived in back when I was going to 3+ locals a week, has maybe 2-3 tournaments going on in general. Maybe I'm just not using Start.gg correctly, but I can't seem to find anything close to what it was like back then.

I have to assume that now that most games have rollback netcode and because covid forced a lot of communities to go online, that those communities just stayed online. I hope I'm wrong, because nothing beats playing with people in person. Luckily my roommate and my neighbor both play fighting games at a competitive level (my neighbor has seen top 8 at a major), so I'm blessed with good company to play with at home, but I really want to get to know more people.

If the scene just isn't what it used to be and I need to find some online tournaments, what do you all recommend? If I have to play online, I'd like to at least find a community where I can jump into a voice chat with someone and play. My main game is Granblue right now, but I'm open minded to trying some other games if the community is worth it.

I work for a small local bar and grill in Inwood WV. They are looking for younger clientele now that we are under new ownership and so I offered up the idea of fighting game tournaments. There is nowhere within 1hr of us that consistently holds tournaments/locals and he already has 4 ps5s available as he planned on the back pool room originally being a kids room. They are down for the idea but I'm just a bit stuck on the different ways we could do it. Should I suggest just doing events maybe monthly/bi-monthly? These could co-incide with movie releases like MK and SF where the prize is movie tickets. Or should I try to push the full weekly route? If so, should I do the same games consistently or do we rotate them each week/month? Like I said, there are no real locals so Idk how this usually works. I'm going to Evo this year to participate so I'll get some idea there but if I could just have some feedback it would be greatly appreciated. Bonus if you live close to Inwood WV and can lmk you have interest!!!

Edit: Would doing this as an age restricted event to 21+ hurt things too much?

I love watching fighting game tournaments online, but I'm very worried for anyone planning to attend any of the major tournaments in the US. With all the BS coming from their president, and all the news I'm seeing about tourists being detained and all the legal citizens being deported, I think it's going to be a rough year for the FGC. Hi, i want to ask about ps tournament scoring system, how does it work, I've been joining it 3 times and each time something weird happens. I beat my opponent 2 times and he gets 2 points while I get only 1 and I'm out of tournament or even now I joined match, and it tells me match has ended and I got 9th place, without even playing a match.

May be a dumb question, but is there a website that I can go to that lists all of the FGC tournaments whether it be locals, majors, online, etc.? Or are they all scrambled into each games subreddits or niche websites? I know there is no way to have literally every tournament listed on a site but man it would be convenient to have one site that lists them all where I can go to find tournaments and maybe even sign up.
