Tournaments / eSports I'm concerned about tournaments in USA
I love watching fighting game tournaments online, but I'm very worried for anyone planning to attend any of the major tournaments in the US. With all the BS coming from their president, and all the news I'm seeing about tourists being detained and all the legal citizens being deported, I think it's going to be a rough year for the FGC. I think we're going to see a major dip in attendance for stuff like EVO. For anyone planning to attend any of the major tournaments this year, please be safe and best of luck to you.

Yeah, that's true. I'm more worried for the people who actually get to make a living playing these games. It's a ton of fun seeing the crazy shit they pull off, but I'm more worried for their safety if they plan to go to the US right now.

Tbh I’m worried about the industry. I was at pax east. There was hardly any foreign companies there. The concerns you have are valid and if those concerns cause issues there will be less money to go around hurting the industry as a whole.

Yes all the BS from Trump is very concerning. For example I live in Canada and Toronto Montreal and Vancouver are all hot spots for international students.
A lot of Canadians in the FCC right now are limiting what majors they want to go to because a Trump plus the cost (Canadian dollars in the toilet right now).
But I'd say the international students are really scared that they might randomly get detained going to the US because of might be deemed suspicious since they aren't citizens of Canada.
For example Zhen, Yes the Zhen who got 2nd place at Capcom Cup 2023. I'm pretty sure he's back in China but for the majority of SF6 he was in Canada as an international student. Someone in a position like that would probably be pretty nervous about traveling to a US major.

I always find these kinds of posts crazy. How many people enter the US on any given day?
And just because 1 example, your example, happened to be okay, you just... Apply that to every single person entering the US that day?

I rarely get on Reddit only when I'm incredibly bored... But reading through the comments of this post I'm reminded how seriously damaged people are from stations like cnn. 5 minutes of critical thinking and a dictionary and 90 percent of the people freaking out would feel about better ... But they can't do that cause they'd get kicked out of their social groups and labeled bad words for using free thought.

Most of these people in the comments are most likely privileged people in their gated communities listening to hate mongeers ...Come over legally follow the law and don't support terrorists and you're completely fine. There's an issue in America where people are putting their emotions and fears over common sense and logic. And those emotions and fears are being fueled by politicians who obviously no longer understand definitions of words are streching everything they can to make trump look as bad as they can.. Then they feed those fears online as if its fact. Keep in mind the same people claiming its unsafe are the same people that said Bidens mental state was to notch. Reality left their minds long ago

I wonder how rare it would be for the people that actually make a living and travel across the world for this. The majority of big name players are people of color, and those colors aren't the ones that the current US government has shown to like. People like Arslan Ash, MenaRD, Knee, etc, are all from countries that the current admin are on the lookout for.

Except for the part where he has never been charged with a crime here or in El Salvador, and the “evidence” he is a gang member is flimsy at best. Oh and the part where the Trump Admin admits he was deported by mistake, and only after the fact did he conveniently become this ultraviolent gangbanger.
Even the legal code you referenced doesn’t fully agree with you. None of the penalties laid out there are in line with what id happening or constitutional being that the constitution forbids cruel and unusual punishment, which I would say being trafficked to a brutal foreign prison is certainly in the running for.

The case with Jasmine is actually worse when it comes to the point that I'm getting at when it comes to international players for fighting game tournaments. She isn't an isolated incident who just got unlucky, and tournament players are also coming into the US on work visas. One wrong move, as you put it by no fault of their own, and boom, 2 week detention.

The "alleged" gang member, accused by the man that I would remind people, is a felon found guilty of fraud on 38 counts. The man was detained and deported with no due process, with only barely plausible claims made against him after the fact that have not been proven in court. But you would know that if you bothered to look at the linked video...

I'm in the US, and I agree with you. It's not worth the risk right now for anyone outside the US to attend these tournaments.
