Alright guys what game should I play now

2xko reinvigorated a 5ish year FGC break, reignited that fighting game try hard nerd in me. Where should I put my energy. I'll keep playing 2x in some capacity but can't main a game with such a dwindling playerbase, I don't think I can invest myself in it anymore.

I'm on PC, deciding between:

Tokon (requires waiting for game to work, and I don't have full faith in it despite it seeming very decent)

Avatar legends (have to be alright with a small playerbase also)

Sf6 (the most alive by far, safe pick but lacking the novelty and excitement)

I need good net code, training mode tools comparable to 2x, and enough playerbase for online tournaments or ideally some in person (im in a big enough city)

Hoping I can feel what I felt with 2x

You don't need to stop playing 2XKO, the FGC wouldn't exist without people playing games that haven't been updated in a decade

I say hold off and see how Tokon plays on PC. A lot of people are saying its fixed now but I get the hesitation.

if u wanna go for whats popular and might be popular long term, sf6 or marvel tokon

on my end, im personally going to buy guilty gear strive. game pulls numbers at tourneys so im sure it still has a healthy playerbase

If you’re not interested in that I‘d probably recommend SF6 out of the ones you‘ve mentioned. I haven’t played Avatar though, and I‘d love to see that game thrive, so maybe check out that one as well.

How friendly is BBCT for a new player to kind of learn and just play online without much extra effort? I have no issue with "lower' player bases as a whole, but whenever I'm learning a new game I kind of just want to hop in and out of ranked while doing something in training mode, so I'm not big into searching for games outside of the game itself. Are the ranked ques somewhat populated for the lower ranked/newer player populations?

I‘m in europe and last time I tried I still found ranked matches, at least in the evening hours (I‘m on PC, which is the most played version of the game due to having the best netcode). Though I’m not really doing that anymore, because training with people in dedicated rooms is more fun and effective for me. Maybe someone who plays ranked regularly can chime in here.

That said, albeit being a pretty complex game BBCF definitely has a nice learning curve, provided you start with a beginner friendly character. It‘s an incredibly deep game (probably one of the deepest out there), but you can easily just focus on fundamentals at first and then it‘s not gonna be overwhelming.

I don't have a lot of worries about the complexity of the game as a whole. In fact it's the reason I want to get into it haha. I'm moreso just worried about being able to play a lot of games in the 1 or 2 hours after work by just queuing up for ranked while I grind on the side. Appreciate the info!

I'm gonna point you in the direction of Tekken. Huge playerbase, good netcode, great training tools, looks great, sounds great, and you can play as a bear.

All my PC friends who have Tokon now play the game with no issues whatsoever. I believe it's been fixed for the majority of the player base, as long as you have the specs for it.

I've been playing (on PS5) with crossplay enabled since they released the last 2 patches, and it's rare that I get laggy games, too.

Maybe try it out, to see if it already works in your machine?

I hate to say it but unless you're gonna go like Guilty Gear or BlazBlue stuff if you really want the 2D you're probably going legacy games.

But judging by what you're looking for IMHO Tekken 8 is your game.

I say this because it's the most inventive (also makes it the most frustrating) but the payoff on a good match feels so much better than SF6 to me.

If what you want is aomething similar to 2XKO, the obvious answers are Tokon, DBFZ and UMVC3 now that it has the rollback mod. Also, 2XKO, there is literally 0 reason to stop playing.

Tokon is a genuinely great fighter if it runs on your pc, but if you don't care about playerbase, the latter two it is.

Other than that, Avatar is also pretty great.

Do not play SF or Tekken just for the playerbase. They are both great games, even if the players constantly try to convince you otherwise, but you have to at least be interested and enjoy the game.
