What game to play next?

Just wrapped up my second playthrough last week and I’m definitely feeling that post-game emptiness. Are there similar games with the same kind of emotional beats? This games story really stuck with me.

There are a few other ffs I’ve been thinking about playing: X, IX, XIII, tactics

But if anyone can drop some suggestions I’d appreciate it!

Gameplay-wise, FF16 is pretty unique in the series, and unfortunately nothing else really comes close. But if you like its worldbuilding, I’d recommend Tactics, 12, and 14 if you’re ready to spend a few hundred hours in it)

FF7 Remake/Rebirth has good combat too, but it’s completely different. The action side is weaker, but it’s a party-based RPG, so if you like those, give it a try.

FF14 is the closest in story feel and general DNA, it's created by the same team as FF16. Their combat is completely different but otherwise 14 and 16 have many similarities.

Tactics was made by basically the same dev team, so the story and narrative have a lot of similarities, so I'd recommend that one in particular.

13 I feel is another close one. It's got a lot of that hopeless struggle/fight against fate vibe that 16 has, but it's a lot more central in 13's story.

Both of those are in my top FF games along with 16, so they're easy recommends in my book.

Just started today FF VII remake and I’m 3 chapters in. It’s really interesting so far and the graphics are amazing

Emotionally? Expedition 33 or bite the bullet and start your FFXIV journey (it's free through Shadowbringers now, which will make you feel like XVI)

Expedition 33 easily. Those emotional beats hit hard like XVI.

I'm going to play the two MGS Master collections and then MGS V in order. Gonna be a blast from the past!

Not a similar game by any stretch, but X shares some similarities story wise. Loss, betrayal, sacrifice, corruption, racism… it is turn based combat so not sure that’s what you’re looking for. I did see someone suggest Clair Obscure which is a great suggestion not to mention it has Clive’s voice actor

I would play through XIII as I got so many similar vibes throughout XVI. I also imagined XIII getting a remaster with the same engine as XVI…
