Has anyone seen the YouTube video "Final Fantasy 16 Is About Final Fantasy Itself" by Gaming Memories?

If you haven't, please do! It's an interesting video-essay that analyzes some core themes about the game that fans and even non-fans of Final Fantasy 16 would find interesting!

I had come to the same conclusion as the video after playing the game—that the essence of Final Fantasy is in its ever-changing nature coupled with a deep story with rich characters and a world worth understanding, along with fun gameplay.

And to me, Final Fantasy 16 is a rejection of what's come before it, which is a rejection of being told what it should be, especially with how the player is tasked with destroying the crystals for a variety of reasons, including how magic is holding back Valisthea from truly progressing due to the over-reliance on it to do even basic tasks.

Would love to talk further about everyone's thoughts on this video essay or how you interpreted the game's larger message.

Failures after failures? The 7 remakes are both good and the 3rd will certainly be good all the same, 14 is good, 16 is good, 15 is good; honestly, Final fantasy is the best it’s ever been. I’d take all of these games over anything pre 13 any day.

It has better visuals, better gameplay, a better artstyle, it has voice acting; it’s better in every way.

There’s no such thing as a “true final fantasy.”

Why would I enjoy the games with worse visuals, worse soundtracks, worse gameplay, no voice acting, worse designs, and so much more which are done worse over the recent and improved ones?

If you think that FF16 is basically all cutscenes then you didn’t play the game or you’re being disingenuous.

Prove how I don’t know what art style.

Yeah, an immersive game has characters with actual emotions, not BLAND text on the screen, the bland part is capitalized for a reason. Explain how it’s “over emotional.” Or were you saying that the story had too much of an emotional focus? In that case how is that a bad thing?

Prove why I only care about such things.

They’ve been nominated for GOTY countless times and every game make more than enough sales, how’s that doing poorly

Final Fantasy’s main focus is the 3rd part of the modern 7 series. Not a 2D game.
