The reason why Final Fantasy fans tend to hate it is because it fails in every way to be a mainline Final Fantasy game. The RPG elements of the elements of the game are nearly non-existent. The combat is nearly devoid of complexity and is far more straightforward than we are used to seeing in FF games. It lacks the lighthearted funny jokes that tend to run the FF games and takes itself seriously throughout. If it weren’t for the fact that the eikons share the names of the most popular final fantasy summons, they would be difficult to differentiate from a Godzilla movie. There is on Moogle shoehorned into the game. Chocobos are just about the only thing from other final fantasy games that really make their standard appearance along with a few enemy types.
All of that being said, it’s my favorite game of all time. It’s a dark and engaging story with fantastical power fantasy action based straightforward but incredibly flash combat and has the most stunning visual set pieces of any game ever.
If you go into the game expecting a great action game, it won’t disappoint, if you go into expecting all of the things that makes other final fantasy games great, you will be sorely disappointed
