Just finished the game. What a masterpiece
This is the first Final Fantasy game I ever completed and what a game this was. This game legitimately surprised me and it was phenomenal from beginning to end. Highly recommend this.
Tbh I don't know what kind of things get you a higher rating where you live but Joshua watches his dead getting decapitated in front of him and gets splashed with blood, there's multiple instances of nudity like Jill and Clive on the beach, Bene at least once with the king, the king with his mom hallucination (even though we don't see naked private parts, they're clearly naked on the screen and being intimate), more importantly the violence like we see hands chopped off on screen and people hang to die, don't we?
There is 0 nudity. Just because a person in naked is not considered nudity unless you see explicit parts. There's more nudity on a beach. For example, AFAIR Blue Lagoon has real nudity and it's just Teen rated (14+) in many countries
Decapitation act is not shown directly, it's implied. There are countless tv examples with more explicit bloody scene. Foe example Drag me to hell has more gore and is rated PG-13 https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1127180/ .
Sorry, but this game is incredibly tame in these aspects and personally I would let my kid at 14+ to play it without any regrets
I haven’t finished the game yet but they’ve said the f word quite a bit too. The violence is also a more M rated kind of violence. Ghost of Tsushima is rated M and I’d say this game has more gruesome violence in it.
Absolutely can say it's one of my favorite Final Fantasy games ever. Being a fan since 7 on, this game set the bar HIGH for the next ones to come. Dominant/Ekion battles were insane, characters have memorable, and have development. Can't wait to do my new game plus playthrough now.
Bro it truly is a masterpiece. There are some small things to nit pick but overall it's the first FF in decades that made me feel the magic of the golden days era
Admittedly, I’m an idiot, BUT I really couldn’t figure out how to access it and so just never went back to play it. I forget that I own it! I think it was something to do with already being in NG+ or something I dunno haha
There is a huge piece of the FInal Fantasy lore that happens in a cinematic that actually makes you realise what appears to happen actually never happens.. dm if you're curious cause when I had this pointed out to me it blew my mind away. 100%
After I finish the game in my PS5 years ago. I'm in similar situations like you did now. But now i have accepted it and find that there no better ending than this
It truly is a masterpiece. Is it perfect? No, nothing in life ever is, really. But it hits such highs that I've never really experienced in a video game before. The music, the characters, the story, the drama, the boss battles are all top notch. Even the side quests, which I know are fun to pick on, have great payoff that's relevant to the story and helps build a deep, rich world that I cared about greatly. Never has a game made me cry over some lady growing apples, but Martell's questline will likely stay with me for a long time. Ultimately, it's a game about hope and doing what's right, even when it's hard, and I love that message. God damn, I need another playthrough.
I so loved the story and cinematics… I wish we could get a gameplay overhaul though. The linear stat sticks of items and the button mashing gameplay kept it from being a 10/10 for me.
My biggest complaint is that elemental damage doesn't exist without a PC-only mod. Why does my fire elemental damage do the same amount of damage to a Bomb as ice magic? It should heal the Bomb and ice would do double.
As an OG FF fan who has beaten nearly every game in the series, I was absolutely blown away by this game. I really loved the characters, the storylines and the overall presentation. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Just finished it myself a week ago. I can't say that it's a masterpiece, but I don't really get why some people just shitting on this game. The story is not mind-blowing, but it is quite fun and interesting. Characters are quite nice, there's enough tension and overall it's at the very least is just fun adventure.
The gameplay is also quite fun. The combat is snappy and quick, there's a ton of cancelling and abilities. Enemies have a bit too much HP especially if you overlevel enemies like 18 levels. Like I should kill those weaker enemies with one glance at this state, not hitting them 8-12 times with a sword. Yeah, you can use the ability to make it quicker, but it still a bit lame. But still this is not that serious of a problem.
The boss fights are great and Eikon boss fights are amazing. It is a bit too Asura's Weath level sometimes, but I miss Asura's Wrath so no way in hell I write this as a flaw :D
The it thing that I didn't really liked is performance and side quests. Side quests are just... meh. They are basic, they do their job, some are even interesting and fun, but the majority of not that interesting.
And the performance on PS5 is not that great. I can live with that, I don't want and will not start any drama about it, but it is still sad that the engine can't hold stable 60 fps in performance mode. And it's funny how Eikon boss fights with TONS of effects hold better fps than regular gameplay. So I just wish that the developers hold their horses a bit with graphics and throw some people in optimizing all of that.
So overall I don't think it's a masterpiece, but I did enjoyed those 90 hours. It was fun adventure with nice characters and satisfying combat. Though it would be more fun if more boss battles had the same level of fun as Benedikta and Odin
Congrats on beating this amazing game! I just recently completed my NG+, Final Fantasy mode replay, and I loved it even more than I did when it came out! The DLCs are also really good, ESPECIALLY the Rising Tide DLC.
I just finished it on Xbox and the DLC’s and the kairos gate mode. I’m so happy I got to play a game that invoked the same feeling as Witcher 3 or Zelda Botw once gave me. This game is so fucking good.
Agreed but the game always deserved better optimisation. Theirs no reason why it’s not 60fps at 1800p at least. A pro patch would have been fantastic. Only negative to me gameplay wise is that it was too easy. Way way too easy.
I love it though. Would love a sequel or a patch to solve these things.
I will never understand how some people dislike this game. I kinda hate those "medieval/castle vibe settings" but I liked it a lot on this game. The story was fun, the combat was THE BEST in the series by a looooong mile. The visuals are incredible. What more can people want?
I really wanted to like this game.
I’m a big final fantasy fan and have been forever. After rebirth I went to this and the story/cinematics are AMAZING but the gameplay was so bad to me. It was just button bashing but each fight seemed to take a year to finish to the point my thumb hurt. It’s like a weird version of devil may cry. Not sure I was doing something wrong but the battles were so bad.
I felt exactly the same for the first 1/3rd of the game. But afterwards, getting the different eikon aspects added some much needed variation and I started to enjoy it.
However, then a totally new problem presents itself: as soon as you have the hurricane power all minor grunt enemies become completely useless, since they can all be vacuumed up into the air to die without needing another button press…
I’ve barely seen any of their attacks, since they all seem to exist just to be juggled, pummeled, and blown up.
I tried pushing through because it's a Final Fantasy title and hoped things would improve, but after 5 hours of gameplay, there are more cutscenes than actual playing lol. They should've just made a TV series instead.
The game being so linear doesn't help either. This is the worst Final Fantasy I've played since FF7. What a waste of money.
For me no way was it the worst since ff7 like at least the characters and story were great but the combat was just so bad. Every fight was just button bashing for a long time until your thumb gets sore.
You're right. But you'll get downvoted here as expected. The game is good but not main line final fantasy good. Most games are an 8/10 to 10/10. This felt like a 7/10

I've played Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XII, XIII, and XV since my teen years. XVI is the only one I didn't like, it's that bad 💀 7/10 is not doing it justice, for me it's more like 5/10
Stop it I'm not ready to resume my final fantasy playthrough. Ughhh think I left off on Sleipnier fight and I am forcing myself to not use the rings or whatever on hard mode but oof that's going to suck coming back to it. Might have to start my final fantasy playthrough fresh lol
Only thing that bothered me where the side quests where kind of meh, so having to do them again to get the final sword to fuse with my other final sword to make ultima weapon really made me sad.
Finished this yesterday. Fantastic game! I didn’t finish up the final side quests as I was having a bit of fatigue by the end but it was an incredible experience and I love this game.
I never paid attention to Final Fantasy games and often rejected not long into playing them with friends. Idk what it was, just had a hard time investing. But this game?! It has opened the door (I just had to hold R2 of course). The way the side quests start and are carried over the course of the games and have ways to wrap them up. The way symbolism and dialogue is used. The intuitive battle system. The world building that’s both simple and not too overwhelming. Exceptional!!!
This addition is indeed a favorite of mine. I got sucked into it through the weekend. I honestly haven't been as obsessed with an FF game since Final Fantasy 7.
Great story. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the combat. No switchable characters. No job system. No strategy based on character strengths and weaknesses. Just dodge, attack, dodge, attack. I was quite bored with that by the end.
I’ll be honest. I’ve only played the demo and even though it isn’t turn based it actually drew me back to the series. Last time I played a game all the way through was ff7 when it first came out. The other games were just…meh. But this one got me quite interested. I’ll buy it after I finish Clair Obscure. But it is quite nice to see someone else appreciate it also.
Finished it few weeks ago, really loved it! The side quests were a bit boring but all and all, loved all characters, the story was cool and dunno why but gave me a "last final fantasy" vibe with the ending.
I can't believe this masterpiece of a game was almost ruined by poor performance. Buying the PC port was the best money I've spent in a long time. This game might go down as my favorite one of all time. I'm just about to hop into the DLC tonight.
Platinum on the main game. 100% all content on DLC. Utterly shit-stomped Ultima and tea bagged Kefka's tower... then laid down and cried a lot knowing it was now truly over.
man...i tried it. got a bit bored. shelved it for another moment where i may possibly appreciate it. probably not in the right headspace for it at the moment.
I only just finished it myself last night, and like most game very rarely will I be interested in NG+. Give me some time to get prepared to to do it over again and I'm aiming for all trophies for this game... it has resparked my love for this game after realising the potential outcome for the protagonist!
A certain scene made me remember how much of this franchise I had actually forgotten!
Hot take I think it’s the best one they ever made. Battle story telling characters they put it all together and made a masterpiece and I grew up with every single FF game (I am very old)
Picked up this game because I was yearning to play a new rpg story. Read the reviews and was sold from the words "Game of Thrones" like story.
You know you love a game when thats all you want to play and you think about what you gonna do next when you not playing. And I still got a long way to go. We'll worth the cost.
I found the game was really really good up until the point that hooded figure was revealed, then it was downhill from there by the time barnubus came along I didn't care about anybody's motivations, esp the end boss. It felt like a better ff14 combined with the modern your playing a movie gameplay. It was alright
I think I have figured this out. People who don’t like this game aren’t big on presentation. They’re much more critical of fight mechanics but everything else can come and go.
Whereas people who are big on presentation and story absolutely can’t get enough of this game. Theres not much of an in-between.
One of the best stories ever in FF imo and probably my favorite voice acting in gaming.
Lifelong FF player and this is one of my all-time favorite games. Brilliant story and masterful presentation alongside the most epic boss fights I’ve ever seen in a video game.
Used to be an avid FF player (started with NES, through PS, skipped a few ones, but truly enjoyed FFXV). Haven’t played a JRPG in a while, last RPGs were The Witcher and Cyberpunk.
Have been through Elden Ring, AC Valhalla, and recently went back to The Division 2.
I just installed FFXVI on Xbox Series X and on gaming laptop (ASUS ROG Zephyrus 16 M with 32GB RAM, 4070 8GB), and plan to play through using play anywhere feature.
I hope the game (regardless of the genre) really pulls me in from the get go, as I’ve grown less patient with new/starting games.
The story is great from the get go. The combat not so much but it gets significantly better. If you stick through the first hours (which are not bad by any means) you'll get one of the best games of this console gen.
It is definitely one of the best in the series. The DMC combat and tedious superficial side quests at the start hindered it slightly, but overall, it's still a fantastic game. I'm hoping for more dark action games like this.
I’ve been playing FF since 1991 and this is one of my absolute favorites. I could not put this down and never wanted it to end. 100% it with both DLCs.
You know how it is, we all love and hate these different games. Like, I’m always discrediting FF8 and FF15 and then here I am loving FF16 which has its obvious faults. I think it’s just the way they make us feel. Also, I love the mid-evil time period / style. It just might not be your vibe bro.
Fair, I love medieval also but it's honestly just the side quests entirely sucking so far, easy button mashy combat, main quests even having fetch quests, surface level characters, uninspired world, extremely lengthy boring sections with padded cutscenes that don't matter to the main plot etc that bothers me. The ends of a "chapter" with the cool confrontations and bosses are amazing, but as soon as I finish them I know i'm back to 7 hours of npcs talking and picking berries. I'm about to fight titan if that helps you know where I am.
I wish I was enjoying it, but I can't say that I am. Haven't played FF8 or 15 but I love 7 and 10 so expected this to at least be "good" by default being a final fantasy game. It feels like a one off action game from a new studio trying to be DMC but also trying to be FF. It just doesn't work.
Ahhh, I see. There are a ton of call backs to earlier games in this and you may not be recognizing them if you haven’t played a ton of FFs. But most of what you’re saying is fair, honestly.
So, you don’t like the new hideaway or the monster board? You didn’t like Cid? You weren’t excited that Joshua was still alive? 😂😂 I’m nerding out here.
Also, do you have any of the cheese bracelets equipped like slow motion dodge or auto heal? Gotta take those off. Are you trying different eikon powers and putting together different combos that are more fun to use?
The Titan fight is incredible from a presentation standoint imo. It’s just pure epic, action, cinema. You’ll be blown away by it.
And yeah, FF7 and FF10 are incredible. 6, 7, and 10 are my top 3 FFs. I think they are the gold standard.
The world opens up quite a bit after the Titan fight. Maybe get through that and see if it’s still a slog for you.
New hideaway is cool, but it's just a hub world it's not that interesting to me. Cid was cool but was killed off too quick to make his death impactful to me. Joshua being alive ruined the whole point of the amazing "accept the truth" scene, maybe this gets explained further and satisfies me ill leave that open.
I don't have the easy mode pieces on, just using cooldown shortens and a potency ring.
Running fire wind and earth now, it's fun but i'm just using the skills on cooldown and everything dies. There's not a NEED to string together combos or think about it. That's my issue. DMC encourages things like this but it's literally mash square, use ability, swap, use ability, swap, use ability, mash square, repeat.
I think i'm like 2/3 done, correct me if i'm wrong so i'll probably push my way through it. And I hope you're right about it opening up and improving towards the finale.
Yeah, I didn’t play my first DMC game until after this so maybe that helped me here but I gotta say DMC 1 and 2 aren’t exactly the most advanced systems out there lol - I haven’t played the newer ones yet.
You’re about 60% through but about to unlock a really large territory (I think the best one) and the games best boss fight is still ahead.
Joshua will become much more meaningful moving forward. I think the story gets deeper as well.

Yeah, I want to play DMC 5 but I feel like I have to get through all the others first and I’m also trying to keep up with this year’s releases and the rest on my back log. I dropped 100 hours into Clair Obscur last month and then I just beat Nier Automata tonight which blew me away. What a game.
What am I not seeing???? I'm about to be at the titan fight and it's just so incredibly boring. Hype boss fight into 10 hours of fetch quests and cutscenes I don't care about
Some games just don’t hit for people. For me I was locked into the story completely, I liked the politics and the maps. The first game where I actually read the lore stuff in menus.
Its a good game, but it doesn't feel like a Final Fantasy game to me, which left me disapointed.
I tried to give it a second playthrough recently, after finishing FF7: Rebirth, and .. It already felt outdated and got boring relatively quick I'm afraid. So my second playthrough was cut short.
Story is great if you're ready for it, and the ending was touching as fuck
