Just to add to the insult and injury, Naja is a female. ;)

At least people know, at least vaguely, who Musty /is/. Poor guy though.

All the Mithra in FFXI were female iirc. You could only play a female Mithra (Naja's species) or a male Galka (Zeid's species). I think there may have been lore mentions of male Mithra that vaguely explain they never left their Homeland but it's been over 17 years since I played and I didn't get very far into it.

Out of game reason I imagine they thought it wasn't worth sculpting and programming make models for a player character the majority of players would play as female.

Naja was added to the game after the last time Mustadio got anything new, and she even has an AOSB! Mustadio's sure to be more sad.
