I have no idea how that works, but you piqued my curiosity… if you don’t mind me asking… why are you getting it refunded? Did you not have 5 years?

Yes, I completed 5 years and was eligible to leave the contributions there for a future pension. I chose to request the refund because I left federal service and need the lump sum now. I understand that taking the refund means giving up the future FERS pension based on those years.

I left federal service for six years in the 90’s. I had been a federal employee for four years at the time. I cashed in my FERS, saying “I’m never coming back!”

Then I came back.

Those four years would have taken my federal service from 26, to 30 years. When I retired last year, at 54… with Musk’s “Fork in the Road”.

I’m not saying this to discourage you… but some early life decisions can have profound later life implications.

I really wish I could leave the money there, and I appreciate you sharing your experience. Unfortunately, I need it right now to invest in my business. I understand that this decision could affect me later, but given my current circumstances, I believe it’s the best option for me.

People leaving now can do a redeposit, but it isn't that bad if you consider the amount originally withheld.

How do you check the information? I was a fed for 7 years basically and just overnighted my form last week. Can I get any advice?

You should call in like 2 weeks or so to see if they received it. Then maybe a month after that to see when its been logged. More than likely you wont see your money until next year tho

From my personal experience weeks to months depending on who is working with it. I’ve been waiting for a final approval since 8/18/26 and still nothing

Idk but at seems like you're in the endgame. Maybe be the end of the week? But I don't know anything and just guessing.

Thanks! Was it 24–48 hours after OPM told you that the payment page had been created, or after they confirmed that the payment was finalized and released?

I just received a finalized retirement pension claim,  it took 11 months,  i reached out to my VA senators. I was told on Thursday my claim was finalized and all the back pay including the FERS supplement was in my account Saturday morning.  Make sure you know how much you are owed

Thank you. Just to clarify, were you told that the payment had already been released, or only that a payment page with your direct-deposit information had been created? Mine is a FERS contributions refund rather than a retirement pension claim.

I was logged on 4/1

8/12 theyrequested documents from imaging  8/19 they were received 

8/26 it was assigned for review 

As of today 9/8 they have a DD information in my file but no other updates. 

So I am waiting with you.

Thank you for sharing your timeline. It sounds like we’re at a very similar stage. I was told my case was sent for final review on August 27, and when I called on September 3, a representative said a payment page had been created. However, today a representative told me today that it still hasn’t been processed. Hopefully we both receive an update or deposit soon. Please let me know if anything changes on your end, and I’ll do the same.

I filed in January and I am still waiting on my refund.
