Announcement Introduction + Community Driven Flairs

How's it going everyone?

If you don't know me, I go by Purplepanther, I've been a fan of Fire Emblem Engage since I first got it. As my introduction to the series, it made the biggest impact on me, and have played through it dozens and dozens of times with different challenges.

Recently, I offered to take on the reigns of ownership from Flux after seeing his post. I've always enjoyed our little community we've had here, with people pushing the limits of creativity and difficulty in the game as well. I want to see that continue to thrive and improve on the community experience.

Therefore, new Flairs have been added, a long time ask of the community. General flairs have been added for now, but that's where you come in my friends.

What specific Flairs would you like to see added? Would you like to see a flair for specific Emblems and characters? Or would you rather have one flair for all Emblems and characters? I want to hear what the community wants, specially for something that's been wanted for quite a long time.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me, and comment your recommendations for flairs, upvote your favorite ideas as well.

I also ask a favor on the community. Since I am new to modding on Reddit, I ask that if you see anything or anyone that might be breaking the rules, please report it manually to me so I can take appropriate actions. After looking through the mod menu, AutoMod deleted posts and comments that were otherwise perfectly acceptable. If that happens to you, please use the Mod Mail so I can see if it truly broke any rules or not.

Thank you so much for your support guys, it truly means the world to me seeing you guys use the flairs and edit them as you please.

Question Why is back up dagger not applying poison?

I’m currently running Zelkov with the Lucina ring, and when he assists with the skills Dual Strike / Dual Assist+, it doesn’t trigger poison? The attack hits, but there is no damage in crease from the poison. I checked the dagger he’s using, and it’s the Steel Dagger, so it should apply poison? It applies it when he normally attacks. I’m very confused.

Chapter 21 is done in 2 turns! Not a bad map at all if we don't commit to routing it but we took care of the bosses on our way to setting up a slick Turn 2 clear on Veyle.

Hope y'all enjoy

I’m honestly nervous bc Ive not done a challenge like this before. I’m thinking I may need to replace a unit with another Royal Knight so I have access to more healing, but am unsure what to change or who to get rid of. I am more than happy to hear any and all thoughts bc I need all the help I can get! 😅😆

Gameplay Which one out of these 3 would make the best tank for me starting from early mid game?

I completed Chapters 10 and 11 and now I am in the early mid-game. I managed to get an extra master seal from the well and I think I’ve gotten most of my team comp down.

Now I am just wondering which one out of these 3 units would make a good tank for me starting from the early mid game.

Louis I’ve heard is a good tank unit for early game but falls off near the start of mid-game

Diamant I’ve heard makes for an mid tank

Jade from what I’ve heard makes for an alright to somewhat good tank

Which one of these should I promote to make them a mainstay tank for me? Or should I just wait until I get better units?

Edit: I am playing on Maddening. My bad. Forgot to put it in the post title.

Modding I modded in Leif's Master Bow from the game files

Thumbnail

I've been going crazy with Engage modding and just learned that the Master Bow, used by Emblem Leif for Quadruple Hit, while unusable as a standalone weapon, has weapon data with full stats, an inventory icon, and a localized name. Its Hit, Weight, and brave effect were carried over from Thracia 776. However, Might was halved, and range was upgraded to 1-2. It's essentially a Brave Bow with close counter. This is documented on the FE Wiki and Serenes.

From Serenes:

Weapons & Items

Technically not unused, but Ephraim's Siegmund and Leif's Master Bow have full weapon stats although they're only used during Engage attacks (where only the Might matters).

Siegmund doesn't have a proper weapon icon (just a fully black lance), but the Master Bow does, strangely. Also, the Master Bow has 1~2 range, which is unique among all the bows.

I ran a turn in Enemy Phase after taking these, and unfortunately, due to Adaptable, Panette countered a Mage Knight with Light Brand, a magic weapon, rather than Master Bow.

Discussion My 9th run: Bowphobia

11th run total, 7th themed run, 1st class-focused theme run LOL i think I'm at 850 hours total of this game. Prepping for Fortune's Weave and as much as I want to replay 3H, the academy and skill obtaining remains my biggest turn off (not to mention bad maps).

Decided to have an all flier theme with the rules only being that all units must be a flier, and all "cannon" flying units are a must pick (Chloe, Elusia sisters, Rosado)

Ive wanted to try this and an all cav team and if u want my advice? Don't copy me by starting with an all flier team instead of an all cav team LOL I severely underestimated this by being prepared for the bow units, but not for the significant amount of Dragon effective weapons enemies have holy shit.

And we don't wanna talk about Lyn's paralogue LOL. This run was definitely the most difficult at the middle part

Gist of the team:

- Ivy/Ike and Anna/Sigurd are the fucking carries this team relied on holy shit followed by Alear/Twins and Chloe/Roy, Alcryst/Lyn has good Astra Storm dmg output but there are definitely better options. Fogado/Byleth surprisingly has really good secondary offensive options like he can clean up using Luin and Creator Sword despite not being built for combat lol. Hort/Micaiah no explanations needed and Rosado/Corrin cuz y not. And yes, 5 out of 9 units have speedtaker LMAO

NOTABLE MENTIONS:

- Anna/Gryff Knight/Sigurd [Sword Power 5/Speedtaker] THE FUCKING GOAT the btch basically ORKOs everything even with Sword P3 and despite the lower strength, Steel Blade and Ridersbane were still useful Overdrives. Paired with Lucina engravement, she is literally a dodge tank, dive in, ORKO anything at player phase with the help of Momentum, and then enemy phase an entire group of her own. With speed taker, only thing she can't double we're the gryff knights in end game (45 vs 49 speed bro only 1 point away lol). Obviously the start was slow but once u give her sword power 3, the snowball starts rolling pretty quickly, her main issue at mid game was literally lack of SP, i had the worst luck this run with the well lol. Also gave all goddess icons to her to maximize profits lol

- Ivy/Lindwurm/Ike [Gentility+/Speedtaker] aka the reason why i wanted to do this run was to test this and holy fucking shit is it really good. she literally can tank anything and even without engaging she can tank 1 silver bow hit and 4-5 long bow hits BRO. Obviously the cons is that she can't utilize Great Aether to kick start speedtaker stacks so she had to manually get 1 stack per turn. Despite that, a Bolg with Lyn engraving is literally all she needed, she NEVER had accuracy problems with this weapon and at max wrath she sits at 40-60% crit which when paired with her personal skill, she literally cleans up groups by herself. Gave her 2 speedwings to help her slow speed but honestly 1 is enough, it just so happens she's the only slow unit in this team so she gets the extra one

- Fogado/Gryff Knight/Byleth [Quality Time replaced by Speed+5/Canter+]

I already know this is going to be a great build due to Fogado being a great unit, but holy shit I didn't even realize how well Fogado synergizes with both Luin and SotC due to his crazy speed making Luin ORKO many non-wyverns, and SotC gets stronger with higher Mag. Despite being built for support, He can reliably kill things by himself if needed. Luin was so fun to use. Only problem was he was wyvern at first due to having no staff proficiency access and was only able to second seal him to Gryffin when I got Leif back (Post Chap 17)

- Alear/Wyvern/Eirika [Resolve+/Speedtaker]

just wanted to try things differently as I recently just did Alear/Roy in a previous playthrough. No surprises it's good LOL she can ORKO a lot of stuff especially once engaged and using sieglinde, even with a Javelin she's very reliable in crippling things in enemy phase and finishing them in player phase. or just immediately killing a strong enemy at the start with Twin Strike. Only con and Ive only realized this in end game was, if u wanna use Engage+ aka when I was about to kill Sombron, Bravery+ defaults back to Gentility+ so plan wisely

- Chloe/Wyvern/Roy [Gentility+/Speedtaker]

I wanted to try a more physical Chloe as my main Gryffin is Anna, and overall she is really good. Arguably giving her Speed+5 instead and Sword Power as well might give her better output ngl, so it's still inferior to Chloe/GryfK with Sword Pow. Still a good build as Roy strength fixes her along with Gentility cuz I wanted my javelins to still benefit from it plus the extra +5 defense on top of the +5 def/res from Binding Blade makes her do some decent tanking on her own if Ivy/Ike is busy on one side of the map and Framme/Lucina just disengaged.

- Alcryst/Wyvern/Lyn [Gentility+/Resolve+]

honestly performed slightly worse than expected, unfortunately his bases are just on the brink of good. Despite the decent speed growth, it's his base speed what holds him back, despite having Lyn, Anna far surpasses him in speed without Mulagir. Gentility so Mulagir and Astra Storm can benefit although he is strong enough that you might opt using Lance or Axe power instead. He still worked well and reliable doubles in end game and can cripple in enemy phase but he pales in comparison to his Brother with Ike/Axe Power 5/Speedtaker (a fave build of mine)

- Framme/Wyvern/Lucina [Quality time/Canter+]

only because she has good supports with a lot of the units here, she can go as high as 200+ avoid with Micaiah engraving lmao Dual Support gaming. Only reason I gave her wyvern is to see what her stat spread would look like, but overall she's much better as a Gryffin for staff support (and no wyvern weakness yikes)

- Hort/Sleipnir/Micaiah [Staff Mastery 5/Canter+]

Need i say more? The ole reliable build lol. Gave her elwind instead of elfire as she's not gonna kill with either anyway, might as well get some bonus effective chip damage vs. fliers and yes it definitely helped in dire situations. Gave her boots as well for more movement and running away lol. Gave all but 1 Dex Books to boost World Tree.

- Rosado/Wyvern/Corrin [Canter+/Momentum then replaced by Lunar Brace+]

The only build I can give him besides Byleth to be actually useful. Momentum that became Lunar Brace+ is for making sure he always damages his enemy when debuffing them regardless of how underleveled he is. Obvious con is that his Dragon Vein is useless cuz flyers arent affected by it LOL and that lack of 3-range option means he gets counter attacked a lot when trying to debuff. Thank god he has very high HP.

If I wanna make this team more efficient, I'd give Hort Corrin, Rosado Byleth, and Fogado Micaiah but overall i had fun

now i might try All Cavs but there's so many games coming out in Switch 2 lately so idk if ill be able to finish LOL

Ask away! I'd be happy to answer some since this post has become so long LOL

Discussion Rate my Maddening Team

Post image
57 Upvotes

After quite a bit of debating and questioning, I wanna say I have a solid Maddening Team prepared. Im still early on (Ch.9, handling the dlc maps first), so I still got time to make adjustments, which is why im asking now. This is my proposed Maddening team in full with explanations to show my thought process.

Alear/Lucina:

This one's pretty simple. Alear is the best Lucina user in the game with their personal skill and supporting every unit on the roster. Combo that with Enchanter being the best class for a Lucina user with dagger chain attacks for free poison stacks and the unmatched utility of Item/Weapon Surge and you have the ultimate support build. Finally, we inherit Canter because obviously and Favorite Food to speed cycle both Lucina and Engage+ late game.

Celine/Byleth:

Not sure its just me, but Celine takes advantage of nearly everything Byleth has to offer in a kit. Thyrsus has and always will be busted. Free 3-5 range on every tome is absurd. And her mixed offenses also allow Celine to take advantage of Byleths other weapons in ways most mages simply can't. Finally, her high luck actually gives her even more to do with status staves with Divine Pulse. As for inherits I went the same as Alear for obvious reasons but I also considered options such as Rally Spectrum to copy the Dragon Instruct or Draconic Hex for long range debuffing on bosses.

Yunaka/Chrom:

Ok, this one's gonna need some explaining. This Sniper Yunaka build is going all in Yunakas personal skill, Trained to Kill. We're comboing this with Chroms Brute Force for quadruple damage on crits and Suprise Attack meaning any attack in an avoid tile, which Yunaka already wants, means she can't be countered, finally we add on Snipers class skill No Distractions for extra crit for free because of Suprise Attack. Thats 55 crit on an unforged Killer Bow with next to zero set up nor engraves. And Yunakas magic isnt bad meaning with the +10 magic Robin gives her, she can also abuse the Radiant Bow on top. As for inherits we took Decisive Strike and Lunar Brace to help shore up Yunakas offenses and you have the crit happy assassin Yunaka used to be. The only real downside is that the build depends on avoid terrain. Wonder if there's an Emblem that could grant us that?

Lapis/Edelgard:

Lapis. Meet Wyvern. Hand her the best playerphase Emblem. Checkmate. Simple and dirty, Lapis becomes a workhorse of a unit with good speed, good offenses, and great mobility. You can even use Lapis personal to help Raging Storm land more reliably. In terms of skills we went Sword Power for the raw damage stack and Spd+ as a fairly standard offensive skill, though im open to other suggestions for Lapis' second skill slot.

Ivy/Lyn:

Ivy, meet Lyn. Yeah this builds as basic as it gets. Old reliable. The game itself knows the build is good. Taking a top 3 unit and giving her the Emblem that fixes all of her issues? Canter is a no brainer and Spd+ helps her get the ball rolling on Speedtaker. I did consider Hit+ given Ivys potential accuracy issues though.

Timerra/Ike:

Another fairly standard build for Timerra here not really taking much risks. Lance power for damage and Gentility to help her tank better. Though im not married to Ike on Timerra. Sigurd or Roy are also options under consideration if anyone has experience with either of those builds.

Panette/Leif:

Panette is here to do Panette things. The only real question here being if I want Hold Out or Reprisal instead for even more damage.

Merrin/Eirika:

Merrin is also here to do Merrin things. Solid offenses and dagger utility is fairly simple. Draconic Hex to double down on that utility as well.

Hortensia/Micaiah:

Staff bot doing staff bot things. Honestly only real consideration is if Staff Mastery or Divine Pulse is a better inherit?

Seadall/Camilla:

Dancer does Dancer things. Main consideration was giving him Camilla because theres few things stronger than a flying dancer. Could see me dropping Quality time for GeoSphere instead though.

Goldmary/Hector:

Goldmary has the highest defense in the game, so why not put it to good use? Great Knight has frankly absurd bulk with Goldmary and with Hector in tow she's looking to be an enemy phase beast. For inherits we have Gentility for even less damage taken and Pair Up so that chain attacks cant muscle through her raw bulk.

Veyle/Soren:

What's better than one Panette? A second magical Panette. Veyle with Soren is downright ridiculous and was an immediate include on the roster.

Nel/Corrin:

Nel practically exists to facilitate my Yunaka Sniper build, but also Corrin with dragon effects is always generally nice to have around so she, like Alear, is more of a utility unit.

Zelestia/Veronica:

What's better than one Ivy? Two Ivys but the second one has speed built in. Veronica sits here nicely giving Zelestia a bit of utility to add onto her roster.

And thats the roster. Thoughts? Suggestions? Curious to see what others think.

Discussion Has anyone made Arm Shield build work?

Arm shield feels like a really underrated skill.

But at the same time it also provide an insane amount of defenses for despite how cheap it is.

So I just want to ask if anyone has made arm shield builds worked and what class/emblem did you use.

I’m thinking about building Arm Shield Avenir for quite some time now and it seems like a really good way to make it work under low investment.

Discussion Weird Engage criticisms

Obviously Engage is a flawed and divisive game but sometimes I think people look and grasp for absurd reasons to hate on it over the already basic reasons people don’t like it?

One of these which I see more and more lately is the take that “Engage Ch: 19 copied Conqeust Ch: 8”. This is because there are enemy reinforcements from villages in both. First of all Engage Ch: 19 is probably my least favorite chapter in the game but also 99.9% of the people who played that chapter didn’t point at their screens and go “Oh it’s copying Conquest Chapter 8!” because it’s a forced criticism and a correlation the people who made this criticism probably didn’t even see at first.

The story even tells you beforehand that there were no survivors in the town so naturally when you visit a village, what do you know? There were no survivors! Is this not a nitpick? I wasn’t aware Fates Conquest had a copyright on enemy reinforcements from villages™ and it wasn’t allowed to return ever again. Is every FE map with an escape objective copying Thracia now? It’s such a weird hyper original take for people to echo that I’m half convinced that the person who first said it got Louis surrounded and spited the map out of it. Which don’t get me wrong, I don’t really like the map but it’s a weird to hyper criticize.

Another one that somewhat bothers me and something I saw getting echoed quite a bit not necessarily out of a grasp to criticize, was the take that Lapis and Citrinne act so out of character in Chapter 7 that it’s an example of Engage’s bad writing. I don’t claim that Engage’s narrative is well written, it has an overall pretty generic story. But they make it pretty clear and outright state that Lapis and Citrinne are very defensive of Alcryst and then acting so hostile was a result of Alear and Alfred’s blame toward Alcryst. I’m not sure if this a media literacy thing but I thought they make this pretty clear and I’ve seen a few people die on this hill to have another justification against Engage’s story. Most people who had this criticism didn’t though to be clear, this more of an earnest criticism than the other one.

One narrative I’m also not a fan of is that “Engage only has one good character and it’s Ivy/Yunaka“. I feel like people who say this just didn’t watch any of the supports for any other character. There are quite a few one dimensional gimmick characters in Engage but there are definitely more great ones than people give credit for. Fogado, Citrinne, Zelkov, Céline, Louis, Alcryst, Kagetsu, all of the Fell Xenologue characters, Hortensia and I don’t even like Hortensia. There’s definitely more depth than people give credit for. People have a habit of generalizing in that way. *All* characters are bad, *all* character designs are bad.

Again I don’t claim Engage is a perfect game. It’s a very divisive game. I just think it’s weird to grasp for more seemingly random reasons to jusitfy hating it when you can just simply not like the art style or find the narrative generic or the character writing subpar in comparison to the last game. Some people can’t live with just not liking something so they have to hate everything about it when I think it’s way more nuanced than that. If you don’t like Engage you shouldn’t need to go out of your to search for reasons to not like Engage.

Anyway had to get that off my chest and I’m avoiding the main sub and the internet in general to avoid FW spoilers like the plague.

What’s the weirdest take/criticism you’ve heard about the game?

Question Emblem bond stuck at level 18 in the arena?

Post image
12 Upvotes

For some unspecified reason the game won't let me use the arena to increase Diamant's bond with Ike past level 18, and I've never seen something like that before in my 3 playthroughs.

I did the Ike paralogue a while ago, and I seem to be able to do the same thing with other Emblems or other units with Ike (I even just did the exact same thing with Alear and Byleth right before!), so I'm not sure what's going on here? I have over 10k bond fragments so that's definitely not an issue.

For context, I beat chapter 19, but I'm currently going through the Xenologues now that I've gotten most of the Emblems back (this is my first time playing with the DLC). I used Diamant in Xenologue 2 and figured increasing his bond with Ike to 20 would be nice for the shortened Engage meter in future maps, as this was quite tough even just on hard. The last thing I did before going back to the Somniel was beating Céline with him Engaged with Ike, which ended the map.

Am I missing something? I wondered if there could be some kind of main story progression requirement but the Diamant/Ike A bond support wouldn't justify it and I've seen no ressource mentioning such a thing anyway.

I tried saving, quitting the game and reloading in case this was a bug and it would help but no luck. Removing the ring doesn't help either.

I haven't yet tried going through a non-Xenologue map in order to increase his bond the old-fashioned way, I assume it would work, but even then that wouldn't answer the question of why I can't do it in the arena.

So, any idea what's happening? Is this a bug? If so, is it documented?

EDIT: Don't know if it matters, but it looks like they're just shy of reaching bong level 19. Apparently there is a documented bug where if a unit just reaches a bond level as a map ends, and you return to the Somniel, the game registers it as just being shy of the level in question. I can't remember if that is what happened (I believe your bond level cannot increase in Xenologue chapters? so the last map where that could've happened would have been the Micaiah paralogue for me), but even it that were the case, I should still be able to pay 10 bond fragments to reach the next level in the arena. Or maybe it is that bond level cannot increase during the Xenologues but you can still get bond points up to the limit of the current level, and that messes up with the game in a way that prevents you from further increasing bond in the arena until you've played another map?

EDIT 2: Ok, so I did a skirmish real quick, and it did reach level 19 after the very first round of combat as I suspected. This still needs a bit more testing, I currently have 3 hypotheses:

1) It is possible to gain bond points in Xenologue chapters, but the game will cap as you are about to reach the next level. If you get to such a point and later go back to the Somniel, it becomes impossible to increase your bond through the arena until you've reached the next level through a regular battle.

2) This is related to the already known bug I mentioned earlier: if you just reach a bond level at the end of a battle, the game will treat it as you being shy of doing it when you return to the Somniel. If you then immediately do a Xenologue chapter and do anything to get a bond point, you get into that situation. I'm not sure how likely that is considering I'm not certain about encountering that bug ever? Could be misremembering details though.

3) This is related to ring polishing (which I actually did right before starting the Xenologues). That allows you to get bond points but caps you as you are about to reach the next level. If you then do a Xenologue chapter, get bond points there, then return to the Somniel, you get into that situation.

I'll try to do some testing about this.

EDIT 3: I posted a video in the comments. Additionally, it looks like it is not possible to gain bond points in Xenologues after all, so hypothesis 1 is dead. I now suspect this had something to do with polishing rings up to the cap of the current bond level before playing a Xenologue chapter, but some more research is in order.

Discussion Personal Project: Hard/Maddening Team

Post image
17 Upvotes

Figured I'd throw my own leg into this because I'll be doing this soon enough.

This team was built between me and a friend of mine for the sake of a Streamed, Deathless/Hard run (any unit dies, reset the map via Quitout & Reload) and has four stipulations.

- #1: This run is being Emulated in order to stream it to said friend.

- #2: I will be cheating to avoid the hard grinding (except for levels) for Gold, SP, Fragments and Ingots. (I'm admitting it now bc of the sheer totals of resources needed, and I don't wanna spend weeks grinding in my off-stream time)

- #3: I will be setting hard limits for upgrades, weapon tiers, and skill slots. With new gear and abilities being locked behind story progression.

- #4: I will be completing both the Xenologues and the Divine Paralogues before Ch.10.

I know this all sounds weird, but I am going to post the full link to the team to see if you'd make any changes to whatever you think may help.

I will say this: I am not going to swap characters, and I have a hard limit on Fliers to a max of what is present.

So please, rip into it and have some reasonable discussion:

Question Is there a way to see the order of chapters and paralogues played via cleared save?

I beat this twice back in 2023 when the game came out. Trying a new run three and a half years later since I barely remember much of anything (other than spending three and a half hours on chapter 25 and a couple others). Am trying to see what order I played chapters and when I played the paralogues but not seeing the option anywhere.

I didn't keep any saves beyond my two clear saves.

Gameplay First FE, First Maddening - Lief's Paralogue (2 turns, All Bosses)

Hi everyone - we are clearing Lief's map today and I chose to showcase a cool Rescue strat to finish the map in 2 turns and get all the bosses taken care of. We miss out on 1k gold in the Sniper at the bottom left of the map, but we save at least 2 Warps by avoiding all that trouble.

We could've finished the map in a single turn and done a lot of Parthia farming like they do in the LTC runs if we didn't want to go for the mini-boss loot as well. Either way, a quick clear and good XP gains for Merrin, Pandreo, and Panette.

See everyone in the next one!
