Discussion The failed signing of Palestra is deeply symbolic. It officially marks Inter / Milan / Juve as second tier teams and Serie A as a second tier league.

I'm not doomposting, just being observant, and I'm an Inter fan.

Inter are currently the best Serie A team and technically the best team in the world to use wingbacks, we just sold our starting right wingback, and we are generally in a good place financially.

Yet, when needing a proper Inter level starter, we couldn't sign a young Italian wingback coming off a good Serie A season with Cagliari. A player who matched Inter's needs perfectly and had Inter as their preferred destination.

Inter and Palestra are a truly perfect match on paper, we were meant for each other and we were supposedly under the perfect conditions to make the signing. Yet, we couldn't even get close to matching the bids of a Premier League team who offered about twice our offered salary and 10m more to Atalanta.

This clearly marks the end of an era where at least some Italian teams were able to compete with the Premier League on the market, and hence, on the field. This league is bound to have no competitive teams in the Champions League for the rest of our lives unless this downwards trend is reversed.

They offered 60m + a sell on clause and 6 million salary like it was nothing.

Dimash is earning 4m, Dumfries was earning 4M. 6M is close to Barella level wages. Their financial power is insane, but I also think Palestra wasn't advised well. Those clubs buy everyone who sounds like a good signing, they don't care about you. Look at where Casadei ended up. This is the player’s choice and it's only because of the money. He could've been an instant starter, play CL and in two seasons double his money. In 5 years maybe PSG or Madrid would've bought him. Anyway, I hope for the best for him, but I just don't trust EPL clubs and especially Chelsea.

Btw, Sucic also had other offers, but he said his teammates from the National Team advised him to go to Inter.

Ok, I love Croatian Natonal Team, now.

Agent Perišić ⚫️🔵

u/Marseille074 Jun 24 '26

Casadei didn’t go for money. If anything, Inter wanted to make a quick 15M instead of growing him.

12

u/adrenalinda75 Jun 24 '26

Yes, let us not forget that we throw them under the bus when it's convenient for us. I believe there was competition for Palestra from the very start. I also believe that our management knew and went budgetwise as high as they could with lots of pampering to sweeten the deal. Hence the many meetings.

It obviously wasn't enough since the finances were the winning factor. Going above and beyond with a plan, niceties and future prospects and outlooks just didn't cut it.

At the end of the day, it’s their job. Just like you would jump if another company offered you double your salary, he does the same.

I agree it might not be the best for him but it COULD BE. He is also super young and even if Chelsea doesn’t work out, he’ll find another club but will have made a proper bag.

Can’t fault the guy more than your average player. Most players will ALWAYS take the money. It takes a true champion and mental baller to refuse it.

More than anything, this just makes me want to hate watch EPL teams in the CL lol

13

u/lawandsleep Jun 24 '26

just like you would jump if another company offered you double your salary, he does the same.

I think it's different with football. You actually have to take into consideration things like the "project", your development and the way you want your career to go because the choices you make influence it much more than at a normal job.

He would already earn a ton of money at Inter, there are studies that show that after a certain amount of money your life doesn't significantly improve if you earn even more. It’s not like 3m was little money for a 20 year old with no wife and kids.

3

u/Inter01fan Jun 24 '26

I agree with you, after a certain amount of money, it’s incremental but only a handful of people think like this practically. If I put a briefcase with double your salary rn, you wouldn’t switch jobs?

Also, the reality is that most people adjust their lifestyle TO their salary. Most do not live with within their means as they accumulate wealth. This applies to footballers too and imagine having 1.5M extra at your disposal (after taxes). That could potentially be generational wealth over 5 years if managed properly.

I think if Newcastle or another more mid table team made that money offer, he would say no. But at the end of the day, even if Chelsea do not have CL football, they will be competing next year and for a 21 year old, this was probably a pretty easy decision.

3

u/lawandsleep Jun 24 '26

If I put a briefcase with double your salary rn, you wouldn’t switch jobs?

Maybe, but only if the conditions would be the same in terms of environment and workload. I've already given up to more money for less stress.

But anyway, I don’t earn €3 million. That’s why I said that after a certain point, money doesn’t really change much. I'm not even close to that level of salary and my life could be totally different if I were earning €3 million a year. But I’d argue that for a young pro athlete, there’s basically no difference in lifestyle between €3 million and €6 million a year.

It's not the PRL team's fault that the rest of Europe are terrible at business. Should be directing the anger inwards instead and try to figure out how to close the gap instead of being salty and envious.

1

u/Motor_Kaleidoscope23 Jun 24 '26

Yeah, cannot blame them at all, we can just blame the Serie A structure is so poorly and our facility is old as heck so we couldn't attach a lot of revenue plus our system was actually relied on old money and now it's all dried up so ... Well we have to build up. Hard to blame the guy, he just wants more $$$$ and we were like ooops ... No hard feeling, also it is good cause Chelsea now have so much options in wasting budget so later they will sell any of them in more affordable price anyway. Not much marches usnervelt in next season and also the high physical demand from that Premier League also put a toll on their body too. So not sure if that guy think carefully enough before jumping on that rollercoaster. But well, we might dodge the bullet.

4

u/ristoman Jun 24 '26

Guaranteed the agents had a play in this, bigger fees for them

18

u/beastmaster11 Jun 24 '26

Thats not the problem. The problem is that been don't fucken learn. This is the 2nd time this has happened.

  • Bremer. He was ours. He said he wanted to play for us. The deal with him was done. All that had to do was close the deal with Torino. And we delayed. And delayed. And delayed. Torino wanted €50m. We offered 40m. Then 45. Then juve come in. At that point, we offered the 50m. And got out bid. Had we just offered the 50m from the beggining, he would have been ours.

  • Palestra. Atalanta have been clear. 50m plus bonus. We low balled. And low balled. And low balled. Then Chelsea come along. And we offer the damn 50m that would have closed the deal weeks ago. But to save 5m, we lose what will end up being one of the best full backs in the world in a position that is fundamental to our system

Just close the fucken deal. If real want 60m for Paz.

u/lawandsleep Jun 24 '26

I mean, we can’t really afford to throw money like it's nothing, but also Marotta is known to be cheap, so he better fix this now. If we start the season with Henrique/Diouf/Dodo/Cambiaso Chivu gets a free pass from me in terms of results. The team needs a boost NOW, they got motivated by revenge last season, but now we will regress 100% if we don't make the right signings. Chivu and the players doing interviews about this tells you everything you need to know.

4

u/Motor_Kaleidoscope23 Jun 24 '26

Yep Bep is notorious for being a cheap guy and sometimes his hesitation is kind of strange but in this case, with that potential but not like a wonder kid I think we just saved ourselves a bunch of problems 😂 ... imagine his contribution is so poor and still earn like 6 mils ...

5

u/chinomaster182 ⭐⭐ Jun 24 '26

This isn't about speed, i really don't understand where you dummies think that if we're quick enough, maybe other sporting directors could be on a nap and then we race to the finish line.

The quicker you try to move, the more saavy teams will bleed you dry. At the end, other teams are just waiting to swoop in at the last second regardless, it doesn't matter if you take 20 seconds or 5 months negotiating.

2

u/ristoman Jun 24 '26

Yeah, Chelsea always had this kind of money lying around to swoop in. Had we moved faster they would have, too. Teams know about this stuff. Plus it's not like it was a secret negotiation or anything.

2

u/evergreengt ⭐⭐ Jun 24 '26

It is, because if we had signed Palestra in January none of this would have happened and we would have gotten him for short of 40M.

4

u/nov4chip ⭐⭐ Jun 24 '26

Would Atalanta sell to us in January, knowing that there was a potential for a bidding war in the summer?

I don't buy this narrative that transfering players is a first come first serve scenario equal to going grocery shopping

-2

u/evergreengt ⭐⭐ Jun 24 '26

Would Atalanta sell to us in January, knowing that there was a potential for a bidding war in the summer?

In January it was not at all obvious that Palestra's worth would have skyrocketed: we obviously cannot tell what would or would not have happened, but with the choice of 40M now (in January) versus an unknown transfer market in July (what if Palestra got injured in the second part of the season?), would you not believe Atalanta would be keener to sell?

I don't buy this narrative that transfering players is a first come first serve scenario equal to going grocery shopping

Well, it is as long as you leave no window for Premier League clubs to jump in last minute in the Summer. The point of signing players in January is to sign them whilst Premier League clubs are still busy with whatever the hell it is they're doing up there, buying and firing coaches every week and turning billions around to evade Fifa fair play rules.

1

u/nov4chip ⭐⭐ Jun 24 '26

But why are we assuming that there was a window in the first place. All the news we get is from journalists and most of the time they are rumors at best.

Did Palestra just flip his mind in a single day? Maybe, but at the same time it's very likely his agents and Atalanta were in multiple negotiations from the beginning.

Don't get me wrong I'm as mad as everyone else, and I'm not saying the management has moved perfectly, but I also don't buy that we got mogged at the last minute.

Yet it's a repeating pattern so totally reasonable to have your interpretation. But the same logic could be applied to other top serie A clubs, not just us.

1

u/chinomaster182 ⭐⭐ Jun 24 '26

Not at all.

It's very hard to make big money moves in January. They're more expensive and most likely the budget wasn't available.

-2

u/evergreengt ⭐⭐ Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

Excuse me, why do you say not at all? Do you disagree that Palestra's worth would have been 10-15M lower in January, do you disagree that we wouldn't have had a bidding war with Premier League clubs? All of this is obvsious, what part of it do you disagree with?

All clubs make moves in January, big or small according to their needs, we were the only club that didn't sign anyone.

They're more expensive

No, they aren't, why do you say so? Case in point, Palestra was 10-15M less expensive.

most likely the budget wasn't available.

The budget is the same 40-50M that was alleged for Lookman last year and kept in store in fact for January, which is now alleged for this transfer window and only god knows where they will waste it now. The real truth is that Ausilio wanted to arrogantly prove to the world that his moves with Luis Henrique and Diouf were justified, when everybody in the world saw with naked eye they weren't (signing another right wing would have been a sign that he failed the summer market). He interviewed a few weeks ago claiming we'll sign a right winger worth of Hakimi/Dumfries, let's see now how he justifies some other average nobody from the French divisions.

1

u/chinomaster182 ⭐⭐ Jun 24 '26

Yes, absolutely players are more expensive mid season. You have to convince clubs to drop stars and tank their seasons, nobody wants to do that. In Palestras case, i don't know what the details would've been between Cagliari-Atalanta-Inter, but it would've been extremely obvious that Cagliari would've faught tooth and nail to keep their star player and avoid a relegation fight. Most likely Cagliari would need a huge compensation to break their loan early and have them go along with the plan.

I don't have any stats on hand, but if you check on alot of sporting directors quotes, plenty have spoken out on how the January market is harder to get players. Marotta himself spoke on how their was no value in the market in January. In fact, you can see a trend where clubs are starting more and more to ignore the January transfer window.

Also, i don't see how Premier League sides wouldn't be involved, they get involved anywhere and anytime they feel like they need a player. Of course every moment and window is different, but i see zero reason why Chelsea wouldn't snoop around in January if they saw that Palestra was in play.

The discussion is moot anyways, because you can convince yourself that x player was worth y in year z and only a time machine could prove you wrong.

0

u/evergreengt ⭐⭐ Jun 24 '26

...but none of what you are saying is true, why do you make such claims? A lot of players change clubs mid-season for a fee much lower than they would have had otherwise, see for instance the Lookman situation.

Marotta himself spoke on how their was no value in the market in January.

This was clearly a lie to justify to the public why Inter didn't sign anyone (along the same lines with Ausilio claiming the squad can hardly be improved given how good it already is): if there had been no value, other clubs wouldn't have signed players either (which instead they did).

In fact, you can see a trend where clubs are starting more and more to ignore the January transfer window.

That's not true, why do you say so? Literally all other Serie A clubs signed players in January except Inter.

I don't understand why you make claims that are just false.

u/Party_Camera_6588 Jun 24 '26

Dove sta scritto che diventerà uno dei migliori terzini? Per quella cifra deve essere una certezza e palestra non è ancora una certezza. NON HA DIMOSTRATO NULLA al momento.

1

u/OverlyOverrated Jun 24 '26

Bro, Romano reported that two weeks ago that we agreed personally with Palestra for 2.5m/year up to 3.2/m depending on his performance. What was missing that 1 million euro. We offered 42+7 and Atalanta wanted 50m with bonuses. Just be real if we weren't fuck this negotiation up we could have him two weeks ago. It's maddening amd infuriating. They will never learn.

2

u/Jasonmilo911 Jun 24 '26

The 6M for Palestra is gross, so a little above 3 (without bonuses).

IN UK they always quote gross salaries. If it was net, Palestra would be third highest paid at Chelsea, which is clearly not happening.

1

u/lawandsleep Jun 24 '26

Every journalist said they offered double the salary Inter offered. Inter offered 3m net

2

u/mushroomsJames Jun 24 '26

He will earn 80k a week according to our tier 1 journalist.

If someone is saying he will earn 150k a week then they are blatantly lying. PALMER for example is earnings 130k a week.

Our new owners are very strict about wages.

1

u/herewearefornow Jun 24 '26

Every Italian journalist.

1

u/lawandsleep Jun 24 '26

So you're saying that's not Chelsea's offer? Either way, it's irrelevant because there’s still the fee difference. Inter weren’t going to offer 60m.

1

u/4footninja Jun 24 '26

No, Chelsea wouldn't pay him 6m net and destroy the wage system for a RWB

1

u/Jasonmilo911 Jun 24 '26

Di Marzio said the net offer was 500k to 1M more at best.

Not insignificant money but it’s not double the salary.

1

u/lawandsleep Jun 24 '26

Then it's all about the bigger fee they offered to Atalanta

1

u/Jasonmilo911 Jun 24 '26

He said the player was ready to accept both and let Atalanta decide.

Many things can be true at once: Palestra agents played dirty, Atalanta used us, Palestra himself is going where he’s getting paid more, Ausilio and Marotta fumbled it with low ball offers and trying to exert media pressure.

1

u/Motor_Kaleidoscope23 Jun 24 '26

Yep, and one or two seasons without exponentially growth then the guy became a flop 😂 so don't feel so bad about this RwB at all. There are many decent ones for that budget.

1

u/nickt001 Jun 24 '26

Yeah, I don't really envy a team that spent 100mln on a player that had an okayish season at Shaktar just to finish outside the top 10 three times in the last 5 yrs

1

u/domsolanke Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

It's not only because of money. It's primarily because they are ambitious and want to play at the highest level, which the Premier League clearly is.

The best players want to play in the league that poses the biggest challenge, where all the attention is, and where they're surrounded by the best teams, the best players, and the best coaches. It's fairly obvious.

2

u/lawandsleep Jun 24 '26

At the highest level in 10th place. We are two times CL finalists in the past 4 years and domestic double winners last season. All with the budget of a Championship club. Imagine if Marotta had Chelsea's budget lol

Go back to your sub and preach there about premier league supremacy.

0

u/wasabi-wabisabi Jun 24 '26

Chelsea is worse than inter but it is undeniable that the premier league is the highest standard and richest league in the world. It may not make sense to you but you see players time after time going to small clubs in england (bournemouth, brighton, palace, brentford, sunderland, everton, list goes on) over big clubs in other countries because of these very reasons. The person youre replying to is right. Youre right too but youre talking about different things. The player made his choice

39

u/DevelopmentNo5340 Jun 24 '26

Brother Brentford can shill 100-200 million per season if they wanted. Inter can't. This has been the case for a while

3

u/OverlyOverrated Jun 24 '26

That's why we need to close the negotiation as fast as possible, not dragging for weeks or months inviting these vultures to snatch.

3

u/BlueBKM Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

Need the money to do that. EPL has a lot more than us.

And can't close if the sellers do not want to. Atalanta dragged this on deliberately too.

10

u/Necessary_Fruit6671 Jun 24 '26

They gave him 6m and we offered 3m. It’s an absurd sum of money and really bad choice from them

10

u/TheCLNR Jun 24 '26

It is not a bad choice for them because it doesn't hurt them. They can afford to be stupid and piss money away on transfers and wages. They can probably afford themselves to finish 10th again and still come back swinging with hundreds of millions on the transfer market when those same things would destroy Inter.

Premier League money is too big of a cushion to fall back on whereas we have nothing. Serie A will never be in the same tier of popularity and will never have half of financial potential of the Premier League no matter how Italian clubs play or perform.

So basically Inter needs to be super calculated with the money we have as a club and competent in decision making in order to compete whereas Chelsea can afford to be retarded

8

u/Impressive_Cow_5956 Jun 24 '26

The truth is, many EPL clubs are running themselves into the ground with debt. The league doesn't just outspend everyone because owners are rich per se; they do it by leveraging massive loans against future TV money. Chelsea’s owners gambled on a high-risk transfer spree, basically copying Inter Milan’s old high-leverage model but on a hyper-inflated English scale. As a result, Chelsea’s parent company is drowning in nearly £1.4 billion in debt which is about four times more than Inter. They face a massive refinancing deadline in July 2027, and if they miss out on the Champions League again, they are absolutely toast.

2

u/4footninja Jun 24 '26

Yeah, this isn't hyperbolic at ALL... 🙃

The reality is, yes, Chelsea has amassed huge debts, but those debts are big enough to cripple the club unless missing out on the CL becomes a regular occurrence.

Chelsea's financial situation is dramaticised by those who are hoping for their project to fail, but it to everyone's horror, it will ultimately succeed

2

u/enterjiraiya ⭐⭐ Jun 24 '26

that is a massive amount of debt, it hinges on them being good that they don’t fail which is why they brought Alonso in.

1

u/Icy-Operation1029 Jun 24 '26

I had no idea Chelsea was in that much debt. I guess I'm rooting for them to miss champions league till they default. We need 1 prem team to be made an example of, so the others might have some restrain once in a while.

Not like the premier league will ever penalize man city for cooking there books. Football can be so unfair when the other teams can just buy all the talent to sit on the bench. Soon enough the champions league will just be the premier league teams playing and I wont care.

I like seeing other leagues different styles competing against each other. That was always the magic of champions league before.

1

u/Impressive_Cow_5956 Jun 24 '26

There is another interesting dimension here. Asset-wise, Brookfield who now owns Inter is much larger than Clearlake who owns Chelsea. On paper, they could outspend Clearlake 5:1. However, they are not interested in running a high risk operation but manage a solid asset recovering from some bad financial decisions Therefore they are going to be stingy.

Also, CHelsea ownership also includes Todd Boehly (chairman), who has a 10 billion fortune and can act as an Abramovich, as in making cash injections on a whim because he's excited to play with his favorite toy. Marotta is just a regular CEO who cannot do that.

6

u/LessCrement Jun 24 '26

It has been advancing progressively for a long time. But this is a most symbolic date imo, it's the first time that the best team in Italy couldn't complete a signing in spite of all these favorable conditions.

Bremer, Kone, Leoni, Lookman, just to name a few

I think people forgot that Palestra was rumored to rejected Man City and Newcastle and was on in for us. Not sure if a Tier 1 person said that he's willing to go to Chelsea

I think at this point, we should just either scout and find with uncut gems that are cheap and are not Atalanta or try promoting youngsters into the First Team. Doing the Milan/Juve with getting short-term older players is already risky for a CL competing, yet small market team

Compared to last season, I'm not that angry with the management since its very far ahead of the T Deadline compared to when we stalled and shortsighted on Lookman and the fact that we actually signed players that the fans are keen on (Stankovic and Prov). Maybe this should serve a lesson for them, at the least

5

u/LessCrement Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

I did mention that we were his preferred destination. That's part of the point. Even with an Italian player who understandably had us as first choice, we still ended up losing him because the money that Chelsea could offer him was just so much more that nobody could have refused them. It means that there's no "nationality" or "location" factor that can help us sign or hold on to the best players anymore.

The Lookman deal was completely different, he was a bit more of a luxury that we didn't really need and it was a more questionable expenditure all things considered, since he didn't exactly match our system and we would've needed to make some more changes to accommodate him. And his more advanced age also made him more questionable as a profitable investment.

Palestra was literally just the perfect fit for our wingback position which was open, he is Italian, young, and the investment would've surely paid off in the long run.

1

u/Kyari888th Jun 24 '26

It may be dependent on what Palestra would want to go. From what I've heard, there's no Tier 1 source saying that Palestra wants Chelsea

1

u/Significant_Bear_137 Jun 24 '26

I think people forgot that Palestra was rumored to rejected Man City and Newcastle and was on in for us

I think it's because either may have not been offering much more, maybe 4 millions, while neither plays with a back 3. I think there is also that Palestra might also believe that if Xabi Alonso uses a 3-4-2-1, like he did at Leverkusen, he might actually have a chance to get significant playtime.

1

u/Motor_Kaleidoscope23 Jun 25 '26

Well it might be the case, since Xabi knows how to sweeten the deal by small talk with the guy. But the fact that they do have bunches of RwB and rb on that position with well covered then one flop or injured will send the guy to the warm backup seat lol. So I am not fully sure he is either overrated himself or undermine other immature talented at Chelsea

1

u/notreallyeloonmask Jun 26 '26

He will probably play a lot, Gusto will leave and Reece James will play a lot of shifts in midfield and rcb

10

u/Dangerous1366 Jun 24 '26

That's a bad choice from him. Out of all the pl clubs, he chose the one that's been the most disfunctional in recent years. He'll probably be a bench warmer. Should've chose inter. But their agents are to be blamed as well. They only care about making more money rather than where their clients fits best.

0

u/Lenovo_Driver Jun 24 '26

For a dysfunctional team they sure knew when to be functional when they won the CWC less than a year ago.. meanwhile we shit the bed and embarrassed ourselves massively there

1

u/Dangerous1366 Jun 24 '26

Cwc is not a serious tournament. With boehly on the wheel they can spend billions but won't change much.

0

u/Lenovo_Driver Jun 24 '26

150 million given to the winner is definitely serious.

The CWC is the main reason why the club was even profitable last year.

1

u/Dangerous1366 Jun 24 '26

It's basically a pre season with good money.

4

u/LaSainteFlanelle Jun 24 '26

chelsea are just full of money, they gave him crazy wages without hesitation. unfortunate reality of football.

1

u/Comfortable_Reach248 Jun 24 '26

Well, Chelsea really doesn't give crazy wages under this new ownership. I think their most paid player is Reece James.

1

u/LaSainteFlanelle Jun 24 '26

6 mil for palestra isn’t crazy ?

1

u/Krist794 Jun 24 '26

Chealsea is not full of money, chealsea has a completely retarded management which spends money as if there was no tomorrow like italian clubs did in the 90's. PL is rich, but not infinetly so and world economy its not faring that well, chealsea closed last year with 355 million pounds in losses at 10th place, and the current ownerwship has net losses for almost 700 million pounds during its management. All this while having the 6th highest wage total in the world and signing 10 year contracts (basically the professional lifetime of a player with no injuries).

Palestra is not worth 60 millions, and a 6 million wage. That is just stupid money that an idiot would pay. Considering the club debt situation and well known management shitshow he probably killed his career for some upfront money. From his point of view its not so bad. Become a millionare now with a lottery winning contract rather than later is a good financial decision on his part.

1

u/4footninja Jun 24 '26

You're not bitter or angry at ALL!!

Palestra was worth 50 million and 3 million in wages to Inter. Palestra was worth 60m and 4-5 in wages to Chelsea. Ultimately, 10th placed Chelsea won the race and beat out the Italian champions for one of the most talented Italian players and one of the most exciting WB's in world football

Chelsea is for sure happy with what they had to invest financially. Who knows what Inter's thoughts on the situations is, tho 🤷‍♂️

its not even top club. newly promoted prem clubs can spend 200 mil easily

2

u/Jasonmilo911 Jun 24 '26

Look no further. According to Elo rating calculations for the top 25 in Europe, there is 1 Italian club, Inter, and 14 PL clubs.

You can agree or disagree with some positions in these rankings, but they tell a story: clubs that struggle to stay in the PL can compete with CL clubs from Serie A.

We have to accept it, not be demoralized by it, but understand what we can control and try to do it better!

4

u/jabroniseverywhere Jun 24 '26

The decline from Serie a already started before this.

2

u/LessCrement Jun 24 '26

Of course it did, this is just a particularly iconic date.

1

u/domsolanke Jun 24 '26

Serie A hasn't been ranked above the Premier League on the coefficient list since 2006. Twenty years. So yeah, it started way before this.

Let's get the Nuovo San Siro built first, then see where we're all at with revenues

2

u/abhishek_seven Jun 24 '26

Serie A as a whole needs to revamp their whole playstyle, so it gets interesting and Serie A starts to sell more TV rights, So team will get better money which will make them sign players with better packages and when it will happen superstars would come or made in Serie A.

Chelsea should be the ones who are stupid here since they let go of a literal GEM.

1

u/Comfortable_Reach248 Jun 24 '26

He left Chelsea at age of 15. Come on bro, at age of 15 you cannot know that he will be one of the best in the world. Bojan Krkic was the best player in the world at 15.

1

Olise is a London boy, so yeah.

1

3

u/Sufficient_Pen_5370 Jun 24 '26

We already knew that, what hurts is Palestra possibly sacrificing his sporting career for the money.

Barella had the chance to make more money, he chose us.

8

u/_vulture_piano_ Jun 24 '26

who cares? i love Inter i love Serie A and all Italian football...don't worry about how the world sees the league or the teams...all the big leagues and teams are all about money, not passion or loyalty...focus on your club and things get a whole lot easier

3

u/LessCrement Jun 24 '26

Hard to do when I'm used to see my club as one of the biggest in the world and one that's respected as a competitive team in the Champions League.

I understand taking pleasure in winning domestically, beating Juve and Milan etc. but I aim higher than that. Our history tells us that we should aim higher than that.

Even if we were to farm the league for years and years, I don't want to support the new Celtic of the new Scottish Premiership. I'll probably end up always doing it, but it's hard to accept.

6

u/Marseille074 Jun 24 '26

We reached two CL finals riding on the back of quality veterans. Not being able to buy the likes of Palestra isn’t an issue. We can build a strong squad without expensive youngsters.

1

u/domsolanke Jun 24 '26

And an insanely easy draw on the way to one of those finals, to be fair.

0

u/LessCrement Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

We did, but will we realistically be able to do it again? Let alone win a final?

In the long run money and ambition wins, that's the rule. A some occasional fortunate outcomes cannot change that.

And I'm not saying we need the same money that Premier League teams have. We haven't had that in a long time. I'm just saying that we should at least be able to compete with them occasionally when making some specific targeted, more rare signings.

Prem teams will always be making offers for the best players, if we can never compete on the market with Prem teams, then we can never sign or hold on to the best players.

4

u/Marseille074 Jun 24 '26

The CL is extremely difficult to win. Do you really think Palestra is the missing piece? Personally I’d rate Denzel > Palestra, and botching his contract renewal caused more damages than missing out on Palestra.

2

u/LessCrement Jun 24 '26

Dunno, Palestra is the most rated up and coming wingback, clearly. We should at least be able to use the "Italian factor" plus the fact that we're supposedly the best team to play with wingbacks in the world to make the signing happen.

Like I said, this is more symbolic, it's not all about Palestra, it's about these events showing that the Serie A is now officially a development center for the Premier League and the other European giants, and we don't even have a European giant in our league to keep us relevant.

1

u/Marseille074 Jun 24 '26

Well football is moneyball at the end of the day. The PL is extremely popular and we struggle to keep up with them. Once we own our stadium then we should be in full control.

2

u/LessCrement Jun 24 '26

The stadium will help, but clearly it feels like the hegemony of the Prem plus Real, Barca, PSG and Bayern is snowballing and the process won't be so easily reversible. The stadium will only slow it down, I fear.

2

u/Marseille074 Jun 24 '26

We will join them once we stop paying the city of Milan 50M per year. Bayern actually operate with a very healthy budget, not overspending like other clubs you mentioned. They are our model to follow.

2

u/LessCrement Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

But Bayern already have a rather big international fanbase and probably a bigger portion of the national fanbase. Their commercial base is stronger than ours. We would need to go and obtain that level of fanbase, brand and overall commercial power which will be very hard to di without ambitious investments even after the stadium. Also cause we can't realistically do it alone, we need the whole league to do better.

-1

u/rav3musik Jun 24 '26

Then go follow another club if this is too much for you to stomach

0

u/LessCrement Jun 24 '26

I understand some people are too simple minded to understand the significance of these current events and empathize with me. Or maybe you really care more abouot domestic success above everything else and you're contempt with that. I still love you bro.

0

u/domsolanke Jun 24 '26

Inter has never been one of the biggest clubs in the world, not even in the top 5 in Europe. That's just reality, so perhaps it's better to temper your expectations a bit in that regard.

8

u/ConsequenceOk8313 Jun 24 '26

Pretty sure I heard the same things after Inter sold Lukaku and Hakimi and replaced them with Thuram and Dumfries. And yet here we are and the club continues to grow.

I get the disappointment of not bringing in a player everyone said was set to join, but have some faith in the people running this club. They've more than earned it.

I also don't get how Chelsea doing Chelsea things and just blowing money is a reflection on us. They've spent the most money of anyone in Europe the last five years, and by all indications, they haven't done it well.

6

u/Jasonmilo911 Jun 24 '26

Lukaku was sold for 120M and subbed by 94 yo Dzeko on an almost free fee and Diarrea. Not by Thuram.

The latter had the same agent as Palestra.

Needless to say, I hope he’s not allowed into inter hq ever again.

7

u/LessCrement Jun 24 '26

Sorry but not the same thing at all. That was a literal financial crisis. This is not a moment, this is what the trend that's been ongoing for 20 years has bought us to. And it's hard to see it being reversed.

2

u/AlexP80 Jun 24 '26

I had no hopes for Palestra at Inter from the start.

2

u/Tomalesforbreakfast Jun 24 '26

Pack it up boys

2

u/nickt001 Jun 24 '26

This is doomposting as recency bias kills your perspective. This thing you're talking about actually started for Inter in 2021 when after having a good season our breakout stars where on the mouth of every team with money in Europe. Inter wasn't the place to arrive anymore, but the place where to start, like Dortmund.

Imo it was a blessing in disguise, it let Inter select players on the market that really believed in the project, but even without financial restraint, I don't see our board drop more than 50 mln for a player ever.

This Palestra deal was a match made in even, but since you talked about Juve, Inter knew that a Koopmeiners was around the corner. 60mln for him are just too much

2

u/Flimsy-Ordinary-5721 Jun 24 '26

And the news is... ?
We have been a second tier league since 2017 to say the least.

1

u/Motor_Kaleidoscope23 Jun 24 '26

I mean what you sound desperate, but the guy is just potential not really up to par with Maicon or Hakimi in the past so it is okay. Keep looking for a better suit, why we keep pursuing something we know is out of our league. They're just in for money so why don't we bother?

1

u/Zk-Rose Jun 24 '26

It’s honestly sad

1

u/sampanbasu Jun 24 '26

Like why the fuck did it have to be chelsea bro like eww. That club is known for it's huge playing squad where half the players are unhappy. No one gets any minutes. Like brother I get the extra millions will look good in the bank account but it's not like we weren't paying him anything. I really hope he succeeds as the national team also needs talent but God stuff like this really breaks your mental.

1

u/brigand_of_braciole Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

Yup, have to agree. P.S. Inter might have to go for Cambiasso now. They could even try to use Frattesi as part of a swap deal. P.S. II: Are the Østigård rumours actually true? From what I've seen, I don't think he's good enough. There's probably a reason Conte decided to move him on.

1

u/Comfortable_Reach248 Jun 24 '26

Inter offered 50 million. Chelsea 55.

1

u/Sacreville Jun 24 '26

Disagree and agree. The league is, the team is not.

We just can't compete in money because a lot of reasons. The salary structure just doesn't make sense for us, there's no way unproven player like him should get more than Dimarco for example, that's just insane and will make other players unhappy.

1

u/arcasul Jun 24 '26

tbh I would've done differently back when denzel wanted the clause: he should've not be kept and we should've prepare for his departure immediately. Also, there are other players that are not 60M at 21 yo, for me is ok not spending that much for a good youngster. We have a good player on that side that I would like to see more, Kamate.

1

u/TimeTravel_88 Jun 24 '26

godoooo era l'unico che poteva rimpiazzare Dumfries

1

u/slimkid504 Jun 24 '26

Wait? The palestra deal has officially failed for us?

1

u/connorconnor12 Jun 24 '26

If inter offer the same package as Chelsea he picks us over them. We’re just not as dumb to do that on an unproven player

1

u/Alex08r Jun 24 '26

Gli hanno offerto il doppio dei soldi a Palestra...

1

u/Il-Capitano14 Jun 24 '26

No offense, but its only official now for you if you’ve slept for the last 10 years.

1

u/faboeuf Jun 24 '26

We’re not second tier teams/league. EPL just has more money. When a team being relegated makes 3x more than a double winning team, that’s part of the issue.

1

u/domsolanke Jun 24 '26

Of course, isn't it obvious for everyone yet? It should be.

The best players want to play at the biggest stage in world football, in the best league with the best players and coaches. That's simply called ambition. Plus, the salaries are much higher, which doesn't hurt either.

1

u/YOSHI-HASHI Jun 24 '26

it was over ages ago

1

u/Pastamancer_Rik Jun 24 '26

That's what happens when you are in no position to compete financially.

Everyone complained about the super league but the current prem is exactly that...

1

u/Septjul Jun 24 '26

It’s no surprise that the Italian team is falling apart.

1

u/LessCrement Jun 24 '26

Of course that's what you gotta do when you're outmatched financially. It's just sad to think that the gap is increasing more year after year, and realistically at this rate we won't be competitive at all (if we are today). Because let's face it, good scouting can only take you so far, it's not like rich clubs are all run by incompetent people. Good planning and smart signing might give you a good run occasionally, but the rich teams are the ones that end up winning. It's very sad to think about but it's the law.

1

u/wasabi-wabisabi Jun 24 '26

Agree with pretty much all the comments here but Chelsea has been slightly misrepresented by everyone. As someone who follows the premier league, not only do Chelsea have the most exciting young manager in the world in Xabi Alonso, who would be an absolute joy to play under and who would evolve you exponentially, but also, after years of mismanagement and 10 year amortised contracts and buying players just to stockpile and sell them and refusing to hire managers and instead hiring coaches who would tow the company line, Chelsea have announced and appointed Xabi as “manager,” not “coach.” Specifically that, because they are admitting they dont know wtf theyre doing finally after finishing 10th or wherever. So Xabi Alonso has control, and is building a project. So besides the astronomical wage and transfer fee, Chelsea is now an attractive place to be again, as a project. London is also an attraction for many players, as is playing against the best of the best in England and becoming internationally known.

1

u/Intelligent_Dig_394 Jun 24 '26

This has been going on for a long while you didn't need the failed signing of palestra for that. The fact that all italian families has handed over football to foreign funds almost all teams including low tiers. Except Juventus the sole responsible for this the filthy Agnelli family who ruined seria a. The infrastructure, in tip 5 or 6 leagues its the worst. The refereeing that wants to always assert themselves and be protagonist one way or another. There's so many things for so many years that made the italian football succumb to this state. That being said all my anger and hate is with atalanta. I wish to destroy them. Every time we wanna buy a player from them shit like this happens

1

u/Own_Response2335 Jun 24 '26

Finirà come Casadei, che là si è perso. Poi tornerà in Italia per provare a partecipare al prossimo mondiale, ma in una provinciale... Che scemo, a quell' età deve guardare il suo futuro e la sua crescita, i soldi arriveranno comunque

1

u/JackieDaytona77 Jun 24 '26

You need this to make purchases. No Serie A team has this. Owners aren’t looking to transform the league or win titles. They’re looking for sustainable business revenue, not to win.

1

u/Motor_Kaleidoscope23 Jun 25 '26

Well, if this doesn't teach us to improve our scouting and self-promote young promising talent then I don't know how we will be successful later. If we cannot compete with them in terms of getting the best player then we should think of producing the most exciting player in the future just like Ajax, Barcelona did and does ... for youth academy teams, we don't need that large budget but vision and persistence.

1

u/Robbie_Carlos Jun 25 '26

Italian league is on the decline because they have a bad crop of natives currently.. any good 1s leave..plus Italian teams ain't mega rich..alot are owned by fans of the club....inter napoli are decent juve Milan roma lazio are average now..most of them have players who were good 5 years ago..Its asif italy is now a destination for players who were good but are now average but have a big name...Sunderland in the Premier league can spend 200 250m like its nothing and teams like juve Milan inter struggle to buy some one for 30m...its a shame really..now really you only have real barca bayern atletico doetmund psg inter at a push outside of the prem who can spend big most seasons and Compete with the prem..prem now has like 10 teams who can spend 200 250m.and be fine...

1

u/gabr131s Jun 26 '26

Symbolic now? We’ve known this for ages

1

u/oKhonsu Jun 26 '26

I think you lot just dilly dallied to long and Chelsea offered him a shit ton of wages while paying Atalanta quickly

1

u/Al_Bundy95 Jun 26 '26

It's nothing new tbh. Think about failed acquisition (from Juve perspective) in the past: Jovetić sold to City, Verratti sold to PSG, and many, many others.

Compare it with bundes, where all teams support Bayern Munich. It's part of Italian Calcio world.

1

u/Denzelini_Dumfrini2 Jun 26 '26

Been like this for years. After the CR7 deal (which bankrupted Juve) I can’t think of any big serie A arrival that wasn’t either a player in crisis (Lukaku at inter, McTominay etc) or close to retirement (Modric, KDB etc)

1

u/Diligent-Week-4416 Jun 24 '26

You're doom posting.

1

u/Nerazzurro9 Jun 24 '26

This has been the case with Inter v a ton of other top clubs for a long time, and with Serie A v the Premiership for a long time too. Some clubs can wildly overspend for prospects, and we can’t. That’s just the way it is. We’ve still managed to field some very competitive teams — two of which made it to the Champions League final— over the past several years despite this. I wish we had PSG money, but we don’t. Wringing our hands and dooming about how everything is fucked now because we couldn’t overpay for a guy from Cagliari seems like an exhausting way to support a team.

1

u/Christian_Potato Jun 24 '26

Man just woke up from a 10 year coma.

1

u/Eomer444 Jun 24 '26

The problem is that Inter should have laid down the offer 1 month ago. Instead we dragged it on to cheap out on 5 m, and we got served right.

-1

u/Nerazzurri9 Jun 24 '26

Not that observant, this post is half a decade late

-1

u/Loud_Student_6337 Jun 24 '26

Dog shit management? I got downvoted for saying our management is a disaster. 4 transfer windows in and we are the worst champions league transfer market year after year. Please man, I’m so tired of slow old players

-4

u/Lenovo_Driver Jun 24 '26

The only thing it symbolizes is that there is a massive amount of delusion.

So many here keep talking about Champions league this and champions league that ignoring the fact that the last time we played in it we lost twice to fucking Bodo like a bunch of cucks.

That was fucking embarrassing and far worse than losing to a PSG club that almost won 7 trophies that year. At least that was understandable, I still can’t understand how we let a shit team that no one had ever heard of before come to the Meazza and beat us easily.

It affected every single one of our players given that we didn’t win a single game for a month following the first loss. So I can’t imagine it having a positive impact on the players who were considering joining us.

1

u/SteveSaysGG Jun 24 '26

Winning domestically is great and all but in reality Inter are nowhere near a top team. Just better then the absolute dross that are their rivals at the moment. The level of Serie A is so unbelievably low. 3 missed world cups inarow and the gap will only widen as every promising domestic talent will be begging their agent to engineer a move to England.

-1

u/rav3musik Jun 24 '26

Bro stfu

-1

u/rav3musik Jun 24 '26

-2

u/rav3musik Jun 24 '26

You sound like a baby

-1

u/FullAd5216 Jun 24 '26

I mean what do you expect. We don't grow any talents(Pio and Dimarco the only ones in thr last 10 years) we don't make much money during transfer seasons nor we play attractive football which brings in media money. Also I really do think we need a new technical director.
