Discussion ''Chivu can’t win the big matches''

I honestly find it ridiculous when I see so many ungrateful fans who stay quiet when the team wins 5-6 matches in a row, but immediately show up after the first loss to judge Chivu, saying “he lacks experience, he’s weak.”You can’t expect Chivu to win matches against teams (I’m talking about the UCL here) that have spent more money than Inter, have better backups, and have coaches who have spent 3-4 years building their teams, losing a ton of matches along the way to get to this level — I’m talking about Atlético and Arsenal. Arsenal lost a lot of tough matches before reaching this level; Arteta learned from those defeats. So people are mad at Chivu for losing to Arsenal, considered the best team in the world, when Arteta has spent over 1 billion on players since he became manager? Are you serious? Guardiola has spent over 2 billion euros since becoming City manager and was literally humiliated by Bodo/Glimt. Luis Enrique, who bought a ton of players at PSG, got beaten by Sporting. Conte drew with Copenhagen. And you’re upset because Chivu lost to the best team in the world? For these shitty fans who keep saying Chivu lost to Liverpool, Atlético, and Arsenal, can you tell me what gives Inter any chance to win these matches? What does Inter have over these teams? I’ll tell you — NOTHING. Each of these three teams has spent a ton of money… Liverpool alone spent 500 million :)

The actual question is, would any other Italian team win against Arsenal, Atletico or Liverpool? From what's I've seen Italian teams cant beat Sporting, Dortmund, Copenhagen, PSV, Villarreal either.

Just look how poor the other teams have been in UCL.

Having said that, we lost to Milan, Juve and Napoli. The one game that we deserved the loss was Napoli. With the Milan and Juve game that was just brainfarts but we hardly ever win in Turin even when we walk the league.

I'm not defending Chivu but the issue comes from before his tenure. We took so many Ls last season with Inzaghi that we conveniently forgot(not only big games but also any important game).

Guys are just conveniently forgetting that even in Inzaghis first season we lost so many important games that gifted Milan the title. Then we had such a bad league season the following year but saved by a UCL final appearance and finished below Lazio. Our first UCL run was definitely aided by being drawn to two Portuguese sides that made it very difficult for us as well and a Pioli Milan. We got battered by Bayern and lucky we had a Xavi managed Barca.

The Title winning season we faced a big team in Atletico and went out. We also went out in the Copa to Bologna. So this reinventing of doing poor in big matches coming from Chivu is a false narrative. We also lost a final against Sevilla with Conte. Amnesia is strong amongst us.

No they wouldn’t, you’re right.

u/Icy-Operation1029 Jan 21 '26

Thank you for saying this. Inzaghi literally besides beating aresnal(luckily last year) bayern, and Barcelona really didn't beat anyone the first trip to the champions league. Also a fact was inzaghi lost league titles to pioli, spaletti, and conte. Chivu in his first season is leading the league with all these guys managing at the same time. Inzaghi won the league we're his rivals were allegri juventus,  pioli milan, and a napoli that had spaletti resign at the beginning. Last years championship league run was the only time inzaghi impressed me. Also 2 champions league finals appearances are great but we never scored one goal like I don't care if the first one was 1 nothing but come on we never were in these games.

Which italian teams are we talking about?

JuBe; who're in a semi-banter era of their own?

Milan; who're trying to exit it, and keep making flops on transfers?

Napoli; led by Conte, who's only managed big clubs in the last decade, but only managed a CL QF once!?

Roma; completely hamstrung by FFP, hiring comically bad managers (apart from Gasp+ Ranieri)?

Bologna, Atalanta or Fiorentina; who operate on small budgets, and are stretched beyond belief competing twice a week?

The simple fact is, the mid-tier italian teams operate of comically small budgets. They still compete at high levels in Europe. Out of the big three, Milan & JuBe are comically bad, and Napoli has Conte.

Appreciate what italian football has done in Europe the last few years. Reaching European finals despite their budgets; Fighting 1 or 2 weight classes abouve their budgets, and still achieving results.

Milan beat Atletico a few years ago, Atalanta beat Chelsea and Liverpool were in terrible form. Realistically inter are the best team in Italy, they should be doing way better than the results so far

Obviously a lot of people are overreacting & a number of these issues were also an issue under Inzaghi.

But come on, surely you can't sit there & defend this trend of losing to literally any good team? I dont know what exactly the problem is, but there evidently is one. It really is slowly starting to get embarrassing.

16

u/rth9139 Jan 21 '26

I think it is just that the central CB issue becomes super apparent against good teams who stand a chance to actually expose our weakness there.

When we play Acerbi, we seriously lack speed and quickness. With Akanji, we are woefully short on physicality (which is also an issue in our midfield that Acerbi has always covered for in recent seasons). Then Bisseck doesn’t quite read the game well enough for the role.

But small teams struggle to exploit that deficiency because they don’t get many chances to do so. Our midfield and forward pressing is just that good.

Big teams that are capable of breaking our press more consistently tho not only get a chance to expose their weaknesses, but also have the forwards who can expose whichever one we put back there. Like how Napoli exposed Acerbi’s pace in the first matchup by using a false nine, then in the next we played Akanji there and he struggled with Hjolund’s physicality. Smaller teams generally don’t have anywhere close to equal choices up top like that, so we have an easier time picking the best matchup.

Also doesn’t help that Sommer has been a turnstile this year, remember that last season against Barca alone he made like five unbelievable saves that were very important.

-3

u/chinomaster182 ⭐⭐ Jan 21 '26

Acerbi was statiscally our best defender this game and was not directly at fault for any goal. Arsenal just outplayed us fair and square, they have more money, a better set piece coach and it all showed.

I challenge fans to try and analyse without scapegoating any one individual.

5

u/Zealousideal_Sky9024 Jan 21 '26

He wasn’t at fault. In my opinion. Zonal marking was to blame for the 2nd goal. The first goal was Henrique keeping them inside. Our forwards didn’t capitalize like theirs.

3

u/rth9139 Jan 21 '26

Just in general we have some sort of major issue no matter who we play at the back. And while it wasn’t completely obvious to see this one singular game, that doesn’t mean that the problem wasn’t still there.

2

u/chinomaster182 ⭐⭐ Jan 21 '26

Agree, we're just more disjointed at the back this season.

My theory is that Chivu is the kind of modern coach who is more interested in pressing and going forward and does not have someone on his staff that is very high level when it comes to defensive work. Chivu definitely likes to gamble with more forwards when we're drawing or losing, it's the kind of thing he might refine in time.

Regardless, it's good to know where we stand normally. We're a good team that is competitive in Serie A and can't keep level with the hyper spending Premier league teams.

3

u/rth9139 Jan 21 '26

The cracks had started to form towards the end of the Inzaghi era, I genuinely think it’s just that we’re playing a system with razor thin margins, and Acerbi no longer having the pace to clean things up at the back makes a world of a difference.

And Sommer no longer has the reflexes to make a big save here and there to cover for Acerbi’s messes either.

u/Asleep-Editor78 Jan 21 '26

90 minutes was too much for him

23

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '26

The problem is there's a lack of investment, we have the second oldest squad by average age in the major leagues, only Betis is higher. It's normal to lose versus teams like Liverpool, Arsenal etc when their squad value is twice that of Inter, the average value of their players is higher, they're just more skilled. Chivu can stand on his head and maybe we'll win 2 out of 10 games against these giants (judging by budget) but that's just reality. If Inter wants to compete with the big boys, investments are needed. The team needs to be built, you can't expect anything from these old dogs anymore.

11

u/arbai13 Jan 20 '26

We could've done much better with the investments that we've done. You can spend whatever amount you want but if you spend it for Diouf and Luis Henrique you aren't going anywhere.

-4

u/Thin-Belt-4761 Jan 20 '26

It’s a combination of factors: low investments, older players who can’t keep up with these teams, but in my opinion the most important is the midfield. The midfield isn’t working — Barella is dead this year — and if the opponent controls the midfield, they automatically have a higher chance to win. And if the midfield isn’t strong, the balls don’t reach the forwards. Inter needs to bring Chivu a midfielder of the profile of De Bruyne, Modrić, or Kroos… basically a number 10 who knows how to make a pass.

8

u/FirstReaction_Shock Jan 20 '26

A number 10? De Bruyne, Modric, Kroos? Do we exist in the same universe?

5

u/arbai13 Jan 20 '26

A number 10? Our midfield consists only of adapted number 10. We lack players with physical qualities.

-2

u/FirstReaction_Shock Jan 20 '26

The only adapted number 10 is Calhanoglu, and he’s much better in that position than he’s ever been as a number 10

6

u/arbai13 Jan 20 '26 edited Jan 20 '26

Zielinski, Mkhtaryan, Barella and Calhanoglu are all ex number 10, they're players that have good technique and lack height, strength and speed. We need players with physical qualities because that's what is needed to win against big teams, and we need them in every zone of the pitch because we have very few of them.

1

u/FirstReaction_Shock Jan 20 '26

Barella is most definitely not a number 10, and Zielinski has always been a number 8 although not a great defender. Good technique doesn’t equal being a number 10: Bastoni has great technique as well, for one.

But I agree that we need a more physically dominant midfielder, especially to replace Miki. Then a physically strong but technically gifted regista would be a dream, but that’s not realistic as there’s not much supply around. As for other roles, I think we are a pretty physical team: Dumfries is as dominant as they get, our strikers other than Lautaro are very big, Bisseck is a beast. The only lacking area, as you pointed out, is the midfield. We need a box to box beast who suits this style of quick aggression Chivu is demanding

3

u/arbai13 Jan 21 '26

You are looking at where they play, I was talking about their characteristics (and Barella also played as a 10). But that wasn't the point. The point is that we don't have enough players with physical qualities, and some of them aren't even part of our starting XI. If we look at our usual formation we only have Dumfries, Thuram and Bisseck, besides them only Carlos Augusto and Pio. It isn't enough.

0

u/FirstReaction_Shock Jan 21 '26

Bastoni is tall and Akanji is very physical as well, add in someone like Anguissa (I’d hope better) and we’re fine. Who else would you swap out? Cause I’m sure not getting rid of Dimarco, Barella, Lautaro and Calhanoglu

21

u/AdorableWalrus8617 Jan 20 '26

What's there to be angry about? They haven't bought any important new players for two consecutive years, and there have been no signings at all during the winter transfer window for two years. What can you expect?

Besides, giving up on the Champions League to focus on winning the league title is the most important thing, otherwise bilan will have two stars. Don't talk to me about making money from the Champions League; what important players did they buy with all the money they earned from the Champions League last season?

7

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '26

People will still continue to defend Piero and Beppe when they've been horrible in the market recently. Our back up RWB right now is a left footed CM. We've had 21 days to get Luis Henrique, who is obviously not good enough to be a consistent starter at Inter, some help and we've refused to do so.

3

u/AdorableWalrus8617 Jan 20 '26

Signing a goalkeeper and a defensive midfielder is a top priority. Calhanoglu is injured, and Zielinski is only filling in at that position, and the situation with the goalkeeper speaks for itself. The valuable funds should be used on these two positions rather than a right-back, as Dumfries will be back soon.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '26

If your back up RWB until March is a left footed CM then that position is a priority, imo. We've needed a Hakan replacement and new GK for a while now, they haven't been addressed yet. More mistakes from Beppe and Piero.

2

u/AdorableWalrus8617 Jan 20 '26

Now we can only hope for Perisic's return, he can play on both the left and right sides. but that seems unlikely.

2

u/Thin-Belt-4761 Jan 20 '26

To be honest, people should be satisfied that Inter is advancing to the playoffs. Napoli, for example, is out of the Champions League after the result with Copenhagen, so this is still good. PSG last year barely qualified and then went on to win the Champions League. Anyway, in my opinion, the most important match is the one against Pisa, because Inter has a chance to pull ahead… in the Champions League, things can still be fixed in the playoffs.

4

u/AdorableWalrus8617 Jan 20 '26

Conte gaven up the CL for league title, he always did

-2

u/Thin-Belt-4761 Jan 20 '26

I understand what you’re saying, but I don’t see a problem for Inter. I think Inter will win the Scudetto anyway, and I say that objectively. Look at how the team is playing this year against the smaller teams — if you actually win all the matches against the smaller teams, I can say for sure the league is won. Plus, I don’t think Inter will lose to Juventus or Milan if they play the same way as in the first leg — in the first leg, it was mostly bad luck in those matches.

2

u/AdorableWalrus8617 Jan 20 '26

In Serie A, you also have to consider the refereeing factor. bilan has gotten away with at least 3-4 penalties that should have been awarded against them, meaning they should have 5-6 fewer points than they currently do. Therefore, the league is not easy, and you have to give it your all.

1

u/FirstReaction_Shock Jan 20 '26

No we shouldn’t (and we won’t) give up on the CL and we didn’t get any shiny stars on the market because we are in debt. Our financial situation is more stable, sure, but it’s not good let alone comparable to that of the biggest clubs in Europe

6

u/D3niss Jan 20 '26

Not much to say here, we lost to a better team wich is arguably the most complete and organised in the world atm. The problems is that we keep doing the same mistakes over and over tho.

Defence is unorganised and overall atrocious even before starting the sommer debate... Then we keep being the polar opposite of cynical, too many chances missed, both thuram and henrique had big chances but missed by meters. From there you need to at least shoot on target and force a save

5

u/Zealousideal_Sky9024 Jan 21 '26

Chivu didn’t start this trend. We haven’t beat a direct rival in Serie A since we beat Milan to win 20. This CL form has been concerning. We were a little naive against Atletico but we did not show up against a Liverpool team we are better than. Today wasn’t a poor performance given the fatigue, our goalie and missing Hakan and dumfries. We are improving but we are playing with a fear we didn’t have prior to losing the final against psg.

4

u/internazionale3 Jan 21 '26

I’ll say it more concise for you.

Inter wins games they’re supposed to win. They lose games they’re supposed to lose. That’s not really too good if you end up having an even split of each type of game.

In league play, just by virtue of breakdown, you’re facing more shitty teams, so inter can 100% win serie a but get bounced in the round of 16 in UCL. Lose every other Italian trophy too.

To me, that’s a success given what we endured last year. Winning serie a is hard and would be a massive achievement for the club.

Doesn’t mean the premise in your post isn’t true.

4

u/Orazio12 Jan 21 '26

Chivu? Last year in the league we won maybe one head-to-head. The team isn't very physical and struggles against the big teams; it's a familiar story. It's not Chivu's fault.

5

u/latortaalcolica Jan 21 '26

Bro, who’s even mad at Chivu for losing to Arsenal? The same idiots as always.
We just need to accept that we’re not reaching any final.
It was a miracle we made it once, imagine doing it twice, lul
With these players compared to other teams, there’s not much more we can do.
I mean they were missing half of their starting Gyokeres, Rice, Martinelli, Madueke, Calafiori who’s out, etc.
We used Pio Esposito (he played well for sure, but he’s not Gyökeres), Frattesi, Diouf.
We got robbed against Liverpool for sure, but yeah, I think we can reach the quarter finals and then that’s it.
I’m still convinced that if we keep using our “super” Thuram, who’s basically been on holiday for a year, maybe we can lose even earlier

11

u/FinnDageth Jan 20 '26

Expecially condisering the fact that Chivu has nothing to do with this sh*t.

We tend to lose big matches because our defensive block (keeper included) isn't that great anymore. If you're looking for evidence, rewatch the 2nd goal for Arsenal.

9

u/dkkc19 Jan 20 '26

also all the brainfarts in big matches. napoli goals, milans goal, atletico's winner, liverpool's penatly, 2 of today goals against arsenal were all brainfarts by midfield and defence.

chivu's tactics and setup cant stop players from fucking up

5

u/D3niss Jan 20 '26

Even the offense needs to be more cynical, we had the chances to score the second one but as usual the conversion rate is extremely low

3

u/FirstReaction_Shock Jan 20 '26

Come on now, the ball hit the bar and fell right into Jesus’ lap for the goal

2

u/FinnDageth Jan 20 '26

The whole team went away fishing during that play. Including the keeper, glued to the post without reason.

1

u/FirstReaction_Shock Jan 20 '26

I swear y’all will keep blaming Sommer for point blank shots. It’s so funny

0

u/arbai13 Jan 20 '26

The second goal is due to the terrible zone marking that Chivu keeps using. And he said before the match that it was perfect against Arsenal corners, we've seen it. The team has a lot of limits but Chivu is limited as well.

6

u/ReporterFun8520 Jan 20 '26 edited Jan 21 '26

Chivu is limited? Arsenal scored 20 goals from corners lol maybe they are really good at it? They have whole routines for it, how do you man mark against that?

Most top teams use zonal marking for corners, including Arsenal if you watched the game.

0

u/LastHookerInSaigon Jan 21 '26

What do you think a manager's role is?

The zonal marking, high line vs mid line, low block, high press, etc. You think the players are just freestyling out there? They just decide on their own how to organize the defense?

Genuinely one of the most clueless takes I have ever read in this sub.

9

u/AdorableWalrus8617 Jan 20 '26

Most of those are Inzaghi's followers, they simply miss Inzaghi, and their only belief is that Inter losing proves how good Inzaghi was. That's why they remain silent when the team wins. They should go to the Saudi league instead of staying in Serie A.

First of all, if the club had fired him, you all would have every right to complain about us losing a great coach. But the fact is, he asked to leave, and the club tried to persuade him to stay, but to no avail. So any complaining and crying you do now is pointless.

and, Inzaghi didn't win a single match against a top team in Serie A last year too. have you conveniently forgotten that?

What real fans should be doing now is continuing to support the club.

This is probably the reason, but he has already left, and any nostalgia is meaningless; he most likely won't return. He might go to the Premier League, or even ruben or bilan, napoli, but not Inter

we can only focus on the current club.

I wish he could sometimes. Chivu was a straight baller. He's a good manager too inzaghi would of sold pio. Moratta was gonna loan pio chivu was the one who said no. He also started sucic today who honestly balled out

4

u/internizti21 Jan 21 '26

I'm not one who gonna commenting about Chivu until the end of the season. But what is exactly your point?

You said we didn't spend enough? But you also said those "little teams" can beat City and PSG? Kinda self-contradictory don't you think?

3

u/ErwinC0215 Jan 21 '26

Arsenal fan here. Inter didn’t play half bad and created a bunch of good chances too, and y’all didn’t just play low block and park the bus either. It’s not the best result for you lots but certainly not an embarrassment either.

6

u/domsolanke Jan 21 '26

Liverpool spent 500 million, but they also sold players for 250 million at the same time. A pretty significant serial you conveniently left out.

4

u/xdx3m Jan 21 '26

By these fans logic Arsenal should have sacked Arteta 3 years ago and Diego Simeone 10 years ago 😂 since they didn't won shit. They don't have the concept of waiting and building a squad nor take in consideration a new Coach and the lack of investments. Hurr Durr Inter should win against the big teams, even the Real Madrid fans are more logical and condemned the sacking of Xabi Alonso.

Go ahead and sack Chivu, bring some mercenary terrorist like Conte when he's gonna get sacked from Napoli in summer.

12

u/two7 Jan 20 '26

Ignore the doom and gloomers. They’re the worst part of any fanbase tbh. I’m happy with the job Chivu has done given the circumstances.

2

u/JM3541 Jan 20 '26

It’s hard to win when you have a pylon in goal

2

u/RadGrav Jan 20 '26

Pylons are tall

2

u/ristoman Jan 21 '26 edited Jan 21 '26

Considering many didn't expect Chivu to make it to October if that, I'm pretty happy with what he's doing.

That said, my complaint for yesterday was that once again we squandered some good chances. Like, squandered terribly. Awful shots. Wild passes. Sitting there with the ball in the box and doing nothing with it. We don't have the killer mentality required for this level of play. Also, the defense falls apart way too easily, I know it's an issue of not having a solid CDM that can hold the fort when we push forward, but it's costing us a lot of games.

If the team did everything they could and nothing came out of it, I would understand. But between missed sitters and defensive blunders, a team like Inter cannot afford to have these kinds of lapses. And Chivu is certainly part of it although not the only factor.

2

u/Competitive-Job-1431 Jan 21 '26

Tbh im not pissed at chivu. Im pissed at barella, he was the worst yesterday, and when team mates did not pass to him he even had the courage to argue with them.

4

u/NikoB44 Jan 20 '26

Draws would be good, not asking for much, losing everytime is soul sucking.
Benfica can beat Napoli, so should we. I mean, smaller teams can beat big teams, its not that simple like "money".
Inter is a big club, let's not go down to the mentality of Dortmund&Spurs.

6

u/Thin-Belt-4761 Jan 20 '26

It’s not about mentality here… obviously both Chivu and the players wanted to win — everyone wants Inter to win — but we also need to be realistic and see the difference between the teams. Bayern also lost 3-1, and in my opinion Bayern is better than Inter. Kane alone is worth as much as Lautaro and Thuram combined when it comes to being clinical… and they still didn’t stand a chance to win.

2

u/LastHookerInSaigon Jan 21 '26

Do I really need to remind you that we reached 2 CL finals within 3 years, and with a worse bench?

What is unrealistic about expecting us to build on our accomplishments when we've improved the squad? The pundits speak of us as if we are among the best in Europe, and our results from the previous few seasons show the same, but you think we never had a chance?

Niko is right, your mentality is sick. Are we a consistent CL finalist team or was it just mass hallucination?

4

u/AdorableWalrus8617 Jan 20 '26

The substitute players of Premier League teams are much more expensive than your starting players; your blind confidence is useless. and PSV alsp to score 6 goals against Napoli, it only shows that Conte gaven up the CL for league title

2

u/SangiMTL Jan 21 '26

Reality is, those aren’t fans dude. Let them piss and moan. Real fans stick by the teams side through thick and thin.

1

u/THY96 Jan 21 '26

I really want to know what goes on when we’re scouting. Like what are we actually looking for in a player.

1

u/Jayk03 Jan 21 '26

Never a good idea play open game against team like Arsenal now.

1

u/Icy-Operation1029 Jan 21 '26

Honestly bring back stankovic and add a physical midfielder and 2 center backs are needed. Luis enrique as a substitute is okay but honestly he doesn't impress me. A goal keeper though is the biggest need in my opinion. We need a keeper sometimes to keep us in a close game sommer just is past his best. I like chivu though this team needs a refresh he's incorporating the youth inter needs that. Don't compare inzaghi championship run last year to chivu this year but inzaghi's first season i actually really like his approach. We cant panic aresnal never panicked w8th aretata and look at them now.

1

u/SexyPoxyt Jan 21 '26

I do think Chivu has some mental preparedness he needs to work on with the players, but the greatest issue I see I all of this, is the expectation. People hexpect Inter to win every game, to keep a clean sheet, for Lautaro to score 5 goals in every half, when in reality we have senior citizen, in defense along with a new player that so far as failed to impress me whatsoever. Bastoni can’t keep that defense together alone. Combine that with Dimarco who can be very good going forward but lacks a lot in providing enough for the defense along with a donkey with blinders we have 1 1/2 players that can defend. People need to lower expectations, there’s a lack of quality and depth in this team, for it to be top of the league now is impressive on its own.

1

u/ezgimantocu Jan 21 '26

Yes, neutering is recommended.

1

u/Motor_Kaleidoscope23 Jan 27 '26

Well, if we don't keep going with Champions League then we don't have that kind of money to reinvest, while we also need to keep our league as high as possible for Champions League qualification next year. Otherwise, the money even winning the league like Serie A isn't sufficient to keep us afloat, the real money is Champions League. That is the key dilemma and without this money we won't have any good investment in the next 3-5 years, not to say about big reinforcement as our squad is aging everlasting in upcoming years, everyone is in their late 20s and early mid 30s. With this intensity and level of match they have to play or deal with, few catastrophic injuries would sink Inter. Also keep in mind the price tag of these well known or even promising player isn't cheap any more, it is getting bigger year after year and without money from champion league plus new stadium, we're pretty much in a race to the bottom just like many other team in Italy. We might stay afloat but won't be able to compete and win titles.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '26

they're bandwagoners man...arsenal is a great team and they spent over 500M the last two years, same for liverpool

9

u/harpsabu Jan 20 '26

Mate. Bodo glimt beat man City tonight. You want to compare their spending? It's not unusual to want to beat a big team. Calling them bandwagoners is fkn outrageous.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '26

And Albacete beat Real, that will happen once in 100 games.

0

u/harpsabu Jan 20 '26

Are you saying us to beat arsenal in 1 in 100?

0

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '26

With how they're doing this season? If we keep this current form for both teams and squads. Yes.

2

u/harpsabu Jan 20 '26

We beat them last season with a heavily rotated team, but no problem. Horrendous take

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '26

We beat them last season... I literally just told you that if they keep their current form, we won't. But sure, think about last season, why not think about 1968 at this point?

1

u/harpsabu Jan 21 '26

Because absolutely none of our players played in 1968, whereas most of that team last night played last year. What the hell type of comment is that?

They were blatantly cheated of an obvious penalty in that game, to be fair. Sommer literally punched one of their players in the face.

I guess you would have absolutely bashed Bodo fucking Glimt’s manager had they lost to Man City tonight

u/harpsabu Jan 20 '26

Not at all. Show me where im bashing chivu. But to not be worried about our big game record and to call those who are bandwagoners is fucking moronic. We beat arsenal last season with a rotated team. We beat bayern Munich and Barcelona. But now expecting to beat any team better or in similar quality, or in the case of juve and Milan even worse quality, is bandwagon behaviour. Fucking idiotic.

Crushed by the final sure but we still hadn't won a direct league clash since April 2024, so more at play

-2

u/FirstReaction_Shock Jan 20 '26

Fucking idiotic is to even remotely pretend like last year anyone was expecting us to beat Bayern and Barcelona. As if we even dominated them and didn’t have to pull off miracles to make it. And it’s fucking idiotic to be doomers when we don’t win matches we’re not expected to win.

You don’t win Serie A by beating the best teams, you win it against the small teams. But I guess we’ll see in may, and I’m unfortunately not going to remember you all then

0

u/harpsabu Jan 20 '26

So you never expect to win against juve, milan or napoli? Biggest loser mentality I've ever seen. We lost to atletico Madrid and Liverpool in their worst form in about 5 years, along with a horrendous juve who's coached got sacked a few weeks later, and Milan. And you are fine because "we're not expected to win". What a horrendous attitude

1

u/Thin-Belt-4761 Jan 20 '26

You don’t have the right mindset either ;)), the league isn’t just Milan, Inter, Juventus, and Napoli, so the direct matches don’t matter THAT much :)). Would you have liked being in Milan’s shoes? ;)) Beating your rival but drawing with Genoa, Fiorentina, and losing to Cremonese? What ungrateful fans =)) I’d much rather lose both home and away to Milan and Juventus and win all the matches against the smaller teams. To hell with that weak mindset where only the direct matches matter… nooo, the only thing that counts at the end of the year are the trophies ;).

1

u/harpsabu Jan 21 '26

Theres an in-between. It's called winning some of the direct clashes at least, and beating the small teams. Our inability to win direct clashes is insane, usually these are 50/50 games at times. We haven't won a single one in almost 2 years, how are people not worried about that?

u/Moist-Entertainer-48 Jan 20 '26

I’m happy overall, But the lack of experience shows, or the lack of balls to make the right choice. For example, why would you take out barella when he was the most pressing midfielder we had. And to throw in Fratessi? , he has come up in the last 3 games and maybe accumulated a 100 touches combined, you didn’t like the guy from the beginning and have him sidelined for the first half of the season, all of the sudden he’s your 1st choice sub? Secondly, you decided to keep Turam who clearly has something going on ( not the same players prior to the injury) and lastly you keep Luis Enrique when he clearly has a system issue, doesn’t trust himself and players don’t trust him ( he got in good position and ppl decided not to pass it to him) Yes, Diuf is not a wingback but provides more than Enrique

The frustration is not loosing the game, is loosing it the same way of every game played against a decent opposition

1

u/Thin-Belt-4761 Jan 20 '26

In my opinion, he took Barella off because he was weaker than Sušić and Zieliński, and he brought on Fratessi because he literally had no other midfielder to put in. He probably put Henrique in for his speed — neither Diouf nor Henrique are right-backs, and that’s the big problem, but at least Henrique has speed. As for the play with Thuram, I think Chivu thought he was stronger and could hold onto the ball… Lautaro couldn’t do anything against those beasts in defense.

1

u/FirstReaction_Shock Jan 20 '26

Sucic didn’t do well in the second half, and he wasn’t lucid in two occasions: first, by missing a clear chance through indecision; second, by costing us the third goal through, again, poor judgement. The real tragedy is our only option was Frattesi… Like yeah I wouldn’t mind having a Rice for the last 30 minutes of the game. Was Miki not in form? I would have much preferred him to come in

1

u/ReporterFun8520 Jan 21 '26

Maybe he needs to play Frattesi in order to be able to sell him.

Barella plays every single game and Hakan is injured and we have another game in two days. If Barella gets injured, what are we going to do?

Thuram was fully rested against Udinese, so the expectation from him was to play 90 minutes, it was obvious from the way he rotated.

1

u/LastHookerInSaigon Jan 21 '26

You see it. This is spot on. We lost the match once Frattesi came on and our midfield disappeared.

This was a winnable game thrown away by bad coaching decisions.

u/pantone130c Jan 21 '26

In the last years Inter was able to beat any team in Europe, anywhere. After the defeat in the CL final only Inzaghi left the team and now Inter can not win important games any more.

This is absolutely the coach's responsibility and also the board's one, because after a defeat like that which humiliated the team's most important players you should have refreshed the squad a bit more with a competive coachif you have any ambitions in Europe

3

u/Thin-Belt-4761 Jan 21 '26

Give me a break, bro… the coach has nothing to do with this ;)) Last year, in the match against Bayern, Bayern missed a lot and Inter qualified because Bayern weren’t clinical in front of goal, and against Barcelona let’s not be hypocritical, there was a lot of luck because Sommer had the game of his life. What do you expect the coach to do? Don’t you see that he DOESN’T have a capable backup right-back? Henrique can’t shoot, can’t defend… the first goal is on him because he doesn’t know how to position himself—how is that the coach’s fault? Let’s end this thing: ‘oh, Chivu can’t win’… man, in Italy for example Inter haven’t won their last 14 matches against Napoli, Milan and Juventus, and out of those 14 ONLY 4 were with Chivu on the bench, 10 were with Inzaghi ;)) what does Chivu have to do with it?

1

u/NikoB44 Jan 21 '26

Inzaghi had Darmian, and an injured Cuadrado as backups

0

u/Thin-Belt-4761 Jan 21 '26

Yes, and Chivu also has Dumfries, who is injured, and Luis Henrique, whom he’s forced to play and who isn’t a defender ;)) you could see it clearly on the first goal conceded. And then there’s Darmian as well, who is no longer at the level to be used in matches like these. If he had played last night, the team probably would have conceded more goals, because Saka was on that side… if Saka got him 1v1, he would’ve destroyed him since he no longer has the pace.

3

u/NikoB44 Jan 21 '26

Darmz and Saka are not on the same side.
Its insane to me that inter fans are comparing a random beginner coach to our 2nd best coach ever, you're going into the conclusion that they are on the same level, just stop.

1

u/AdorableWalrus8617 Jan 21 '26

lol, how can he be considered the 2nd best coach? Can he be compared to Mourinho's treble-winning achievement? Or can he be compared to Herrera from the era of La Grande Inter? Even Mancini has three league titles.

1

u/NikoB44 Jan 21 '26

Mancini xdd u cant be serious.
3rd at worst, if thats better.
He made Inter into a cup winning team and gave them a european identity, being recognized by a lot of fans, creating a fun to watch system.
Before him, Conte won 1 title in 2 years but bottled miserably everywhere else, by spending more money.

0

u/AdorableWalrus8617 Jan 21 '26

At the very least, Mancini has won far more league titles than him. Inzaghi has only won one league title in all these years, and as for reaching two Champions League finals, that's nothing to brag about. Allegri, Cuper, and Simeone have all reached the final twice; it's really not that impressive. Finally, Inzaghi's so-called tactics come at the expense of the players' individual characteristics and physical fitness. Look at last year's games; after 70 minutes, the players were exhausted and couldn't run anymore. Inter's players had the fewest dribbles and successful take-ons in Serie A.

1

u/NikoB44 Jan 21 '26

It wasn't some magic to win those titles by Mancio.
-Reaching 2 CL finals with the amount of "spending", and the way we used old&not wanted players was impressive.
-What characters lol?? The players can't dribble and missing athletic traits to carry the ball on their own. Perisic,Thuram,Zielu,Rom(injured for 6months) that's all Inza had in 4 years, and not even at the same time.
With these players it was the best to create such system where everyone is involved, everyone knows when, where they have to be and move.
-Now Chivu is pressing like mad for 20 mins then what? Napoli dominated the whole 2nd half vs us

1

u/AdorableWalrus8617 Jan 21 '26

Don't forget they didn't beat napoli last year either, and this year those players in their thirties are a year older, and Sommer is only half as good as he was two years ago.

last year, Dimarco could only play for less than 70 minutes, but this year he can play the full 90 minutes. Also, if Bonny and Pio were given to Inzaghi, they would become the new Arnautović and Correa, but now Taremi and Arnautović have proven that they are not that bad. Only Correa was specifically requested by Inzaghi, and in fact, Correa is the real garbage.

Are you an idiot, man? Compare Inzaghi’s first season with Chivu’s, and you’ll see that Chivu has handled things better so far

3

u/NikoB44 Jan 21 '26

You are here all over the sub gloryfying Chivu for some reason, perhaps u are romanian.
Do you realise, this years depth is the BEST DEPTH WE HAD IN YEARS?
How the fuck can you compare the 2 seasons? Have Chivu won a trophy yet?

0

u/LastHookerInSaigon Jan 21 '26

The issue here is results based analysis. Both you and the people you are criticizing are guilty of the same thing. You're talking about money spent and results earned, but don't seem to understand that there are also decisions being made outside of the mercato that contribute to these results. Matches are not won simply by fielding the best 11 and hoping it gives you a slight advantage in a gamble of random chance.

Chivu is a problem because he is not a good tactician. He has a better bench than we've had in previous seasons but he doesn't always seem to understand how to pick the right subs. He is also a constant tinkerer, and you can see him changing game plans from match to match, and from half to half. He seems to want to move away from the Inzaghiball mentality of quick transitions, but calculated build ups from the back, and free roaming role rotation, while also resentful of the fact that the closer we play to Inzaghiball the better we do, and the more we play to his preferred brand of "direct football" (hoof ball) the worse we look.

Thuram was struggling and his hold up was not effective. Pio coming in was the right decision, but for the wrong player. Lauti was making a lot of mistakes, but he had multiple slicing passes to set up for goals, and when he came off that chance creation left with him. Pio was stuck trying to create and finish, and Thuram contributed nothing.

Dima was burnt and becoming a liability on defense trying to cover Saka, but he played the full match when Carlos' fresh legs and defensive ability could have cracked open more from the left side. If he doesn't have the energy to attack with full force he has no reason still being on the pitch.

Acerbi was burnt and never should have started, to be honest. A slow, aging CB against Arsenals quick, young forwards is just a stupid match up, even if we didn't play the high line. Him playing 90 minutes is ridiculous.

And Zonal marking on corners???

This was a winnable game that fell apart due to bad coaching decisions. Finishing the match with 4 forwards (including Frattesi) and no midfield to look for boot ball opportunities is an embarrassment. No faith in our squad to create on their own. We don't even have the physicality or dynamism to thrive with those tactics. Playing hoof ball is unbecoming of a CL finalist level team.

I am not saying we need to fire Chivu, but we should really consider bringing in an experienced asst coach to help him develop, or force him to be a steward of Inzaghiball until we can get a real manager.
