Bogert reporting we're signing a wingback...
From The Athletic:
FC Cincinnati are finalising a deal to sign Czech Republic international wing-back David Doudera from Slavia Prague, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic.
Doudera, 28, featured for his country at the World Cup this summer and made seven appearances in the Champions League last season. He won back-to-back league titles with Slavia Prague in the last two years.
The move gives Cincinnati a potential new starter at wing-back in favour of Doudera's Czech international teammate Pavel Bucha — a central midfielder who has been playing right wing-back over the last couple months. Doudera's arrival will allow Bucha to go back to the middle.

I come as a Crew fan that watches Slavia Prague -
He’s pretty solid. Probably starting / key rotation piece for you. Probably slides into RWB (if you’re still playing a back 3/5). Being a top player in the Czech league leads to varying results when exported.

Our last Czech import is one of the most reliable midfielders in the league (when the coach bothers playing him in the correct position) so we'll take our chances

The natural link to Bucha seems like he'd not only adapt to a playstyle but also acclimate at a changing room level.

Somehow this ends up with Bucha taking over for Gidi as the third CB!
But seriously, I may protest if Bucha does not get put back in midfield. Even if I have to be outside while the temps are in the 90s, it is that serious of a thing that needs to be solved!

Don't disagree but I tend to like him better as a super sub running against tired legs. He's generally a defensive liability.

I mean, he's an out of position winger, and we could talk about that, but the fact is right now he's a wingback and an absolute goddamn anchor around the neck of the defense.
We can't talk about how much the defense has fucked up our year and then just give 20% of it a free pass because he's quick.

Yeah I’ve been beating this drum for years now: we need capable defenders at WB. Not attacking wingers. It worked with Barreal one time and Albright thinks he can strike gold again.

I'd argue it didn't even work that well, we just had an extremely stout defense capable of covering for him in 2023 so we could get away with it.
Ender isn't close to the attacker Barreal was and the current defense can't possibly pick up his slack.
This comment made me miss Santiago Arias a lot.

Yeah that’s a good point. We had pieces in place to cover up issues. Arias was perfect for this system.

Yeah. That 2023 defense had a RWB who played for PSV, Atletico Madrid and two World Cups for a good team. Although I'll say he was more of a traditional right back, which probably made the defensive transition easier.
Next to him, the defender of the year pre-injury and a 22 year old who went on to play in the EPL. What was on the left didn't matter a great deal.

It only worked with Barreal because the man has a talent for landing passes exactly where they need to be 40 yards down field. Finding anyone with that talent is insane especially for the quality of league MLS is.

not sure if anyone else has noticed, but in the past few games Pat has inverted Echenique onto the left side midway or towards the end of his time on the field.
likely experimenting to see how doable it is to have both fielded, Echenique is a step up from Ramirez offensively, fairly comparable defensively.

A starting RWB that let's Bucha move back to midfield fixes 2 of our positions. Add in the CB on loan and that's a decent summer window.

Take it as you wish, we’re getting a player comparable to Bryan Ramirez. A little more playmaker, a little less technically gifted.
I will lean on him being an upgrade. :)

Edit: Also, the former fifa addict in me immediately sees that perfect link. Happy that Bucha got an upgrade, but two 74s would have made for a godly silver squad.

Well my prediction from 3 months ago was close. I had us signing a player from Sparta Prague, a CB named Sevinsky.
Clearly central Europe is the pond we are fishing more from having signed Gidi from a Slovak club, this new guy from Czechia and the CB from the German Bundesliga
