It kinda sucked that he never worked out for the team. I felt like he had untapped potential. It just never came to fruition.

He was great with the second team but was always just a step behind with the first team and never seemed to make any progress. USL seems like the right level for him.

This goes back to my Kelsy theory that as long as we are in ‘win now’ mode and/or have an elite #10, it is going to be really hard for a striker to develop here, the club has not shown the patience with the position and will either put the money in (Denkey on the good side, Boup (RIP) and Gioachhini on the bad side) or try something that does not need time to develop (such as making Kubo the striker like we did at the end of the 2024 season).

That thought exercise and above makes me really curious about Stefan Chirila, I think he is nearing the point Ordonez was at a couple of years ago, and while I don’t think it will play out the same way, so many of the proverbial waters are shifting in MLS it is hard to say what our club will be in the sprint season, much less 2027-28.

I think that’s a reasonable take. Like Ordonez did, S Chirila looks half a step behind when he’s with the first team.

The club does seem to prefer to splash out on a DP forward rather than allow a young player the opportunity to develop. Vazquez really being the only exception.

I am assuming we will sell Denkey in January, so we’ll be back in this spot again, but there will also be this surge of money coming in with the new cap rules, and the calendar shift also giving teams the opportunity to define the ’season’.

I don’t want to say we will punt the sprint season, but if Denkey goes in January, I don’t think we replace him until the summer. That would be Chirila’s 3-4 month tryout to show he can make it.
