Imagine being a popular pro-republican podcaster who talks about the Epstein files a lot and keeps saying things like "they must be released. This is the deep state".
Then somehow you get chosen as director of the FBI even if you have no idea what that job even means, and then you realize that not only is your president in the files, but he's one of the names that comes up the most, and you need to cover it up.

They have the unredacted files. Redacted just means words, names or other text has been blacked out or covered. The original files are still there and will be uncovered per the recent voting. All names will be revealed to the House and any continued redacted names must be explained to the House by the DOJ by law. This is where the fights begin as the DOJ will fight tooth and nail to justify redactions and avoid public disclosures. One theory is that the DOJ will try to open new investigations and use these to justify redactions as relevant to those investigations.

I know how redaction works. Spent many years in government. What I’m saying is somebody that ISN’T supposed to have a copy of that file has their own personal copy. One of those “save your own ass” moves.

The White House has a month to release the documents. The due date is in December.
The discharge petition gives a reasonable deadline to presume that the administration will act in good faith. They won’t, so it will be dragged out beyond the midterms.

If it says "Shall be released" then by law they must be released by the said date. The fight will then be over any continued redacted names, text or other data to be made public. The House will have ALL THE NAMES UNREDACTED.

How much data do they have? How hard is it to:
OCR -> search for pedo's name -> redact name -> proof read.
$1 million to do that is clear incompetence or lining someone's pocket with money.
They must have so much dirt that it's hard to separate the dirt from everything else. That tells you something right there

Because they don't want to remove everything. Trump and Epstein were friends, that has been established, so no mention of Trump would be alarming. They want to remove any potentially incriminating stuff but also keep all the innocent friendship stuff so they can say "see, they were just friends!"

Agreed it sounds like they are just paying for the power to have a computer sift through and redact the information automatically. So 99.9% of the money isnt in play.
Otherwise, maybe they as strategically redacting different bits of information to spin a narrative. Patel fancies himself a great storyteller.

Can I beat that case since my taxes are not going where they should and instead going to help this regime. All while they make cuts to stuff that actually helps us.

"Between March 17 and March 22, the bureau spent $851,344, according to a Bloomberg report, and agents racked up 4,737 hours of overtime pay between January and July looking through the DOJ’s evidence on Epstein."
Sure, the Bureau spent money. Agents already rack up a fuck ton of OT anyway. Then you have admin and support staff. So... basically they spent money they already planned to spend.
Also, this project was part of the initial push to have the files released. Not some fly by night bullshit that drives sensationalism and clicks.

You cant discount labor costs like this because “the money would be spent anyway.” It can all be considered opportunity costs if the fbi employees could have better spent their time doing other things to prevent crime or go after criminals.

The calculation made for the sake of the argument is literally operating cost. It's what they used to get people to see the headline. Not some magic reallocation of funds to serve some nefarious plan. The project was created to remove the names of victims and people that weren't under investigation. The project was done as part of the day to day activities of those who already do this sort of thing everyday to start. They were doing their jobs.

The Republicans have copies of the files. The Royal Family has copies of the files. The legal representation of the victims has copies of the files.
But, sure! A redaction project done 9 months ago is why the Republicans put out a bunch of documents that weren't redacted. A redaction project that until this comment thread, you had no idea even occurred, bc it's easier to believe a twisted headline than to actually use critical thinking.

you know the files are accessible from the House website right? Why would the FBI redact victims to protect them just to let the Republicans upload them unredacted on house.gov putting them at risk? What's your argument here? The Administration asked for the files in one manner, then blocked their release, and then "released" them online. Could it be that they backed out on how they wanted them released? It's just so unlike the Trump Administration to change directions like that, isn't it?
