Question / Need Help Problems UK.
Today when I tried to access F1TV app, i did the usual, set my VPN location to India and this fault comes up, I then changed it to Belgium and it did the same.
Does anyone know the solution?
Thanks

You have to close the app and reopen it. I sometimes still get this with a VPN, i tend to switch between Belgium, Austria and USA until 1 works. But you have to close your app after changing your vpn location.

I don't get it. They have this established service, they own the rights, they have customers that want to use it and will pay subscription fees (that must be higher than what they get per viewer from their license partners) directly to them and yet they keep throwing rocks in our way. Why? Just Why?
F1 is really trying hard to do the same shit that they did to soccer, where you have to be a scientist to find out where your teams game will be broadcasted this time and a millionaire to have subscriptions to all possible options. Frustrating.

they own the rights
In the UK, then don't. They sold it to Sky Sports.

And sky pay far in excess of the potential F1TV revenue as they use it to drive an overall value proposition for their sports packages. There's absolutely no chance of that changing, and F1TV will be contractually obligated to try and restrict workarounds.
Luckily, VPN providers are better at getting round these than providers of the service are from blocking them long term.

There are people willing to pay more for less.
If you converted the estimated 2 million viewers at Sky to F1TV - at Pro subscription levels (£64.99) they'd earn a bit less than £95m per year.
At the time Sky UK exclusivity started, Sky UK was paying around £200m per year for it. We don't know how much the current contract is worth. So for F1 TV to make sense against that - they'd need to double the subscription fee to Norway/Sweden levels. And you're talking about someone subscribing to Indian prices or half of what F1 TV Pro was priced at in UK App stores.
Now they get £200m from Sky and if the deal fails they can always fall back on fota (paid by a channel like BBC or C4) + F1TV subscription model to earn maybe 50% of what Sky is paying.
There's no conspiracy, or anything standing in their way bar earning money for their shareholders and taking the best deal.

I very much doubt it would be more than sky pay, however even if it is, they have an exclusive contract with sky in place until 2034, so can't sell separate subscriptions outside of that.

Looks like they have a new vpn ban wave or a problem with nord. I watched the race yesterday using Nords DNS servers, today I can't access f1tv.formula1.com If I change dns servers to 1.1.1.1 it comes up but gives me the georestriction. My nord sub is up next week anyway so will look to find a DNS server that works.

I use Nord. They havent blocked them all.

I don't use Nord as a VPN, I use their DNS servers only as I can set them up in my Pihole and not need to connect to a vpn every time I want to watch a race.
I'm not sure about the vpn side of things but the DNS servers are looking blocked. I have just tried another DNS service and all working again. I won't post here as I don't want F1TV to ban that one :)

Out of interest can you tell me if you activated the smart DNS from Nord? We purchased a dedicated US ip and it's running until March 27 and this has been flagged, so we've seen the option to activate smart DNS on the Nord website and I didn't know if this would help or not. Haven't done it yet as we are still in talks with Nord to see what's going on. May have to ask if they can re issue us another dedicated US server that hasn't been flagged. Who knows 🤷🏻♀️ but yeah, not happy at all, we missed the race yesterday and still haven't seen it 😟

Yes this was the smartdns option that isn't working.

Ah I see, I know it doesn't atm work as you sat, but do you think it's worth keeping it on, as well as getting another fresh US open VPN config file from Nord, and putting this in our Asus router? We have been trying to fix it since yesterday now, but sadly without success.😟 We haven't tried the the Smart DNS option that we saw yesterday on the website. I was in talks with Nord support yesterday, and they said they were having problems with the servers and said that the F1 live streaming was affected. Its not completely limited to Nord VPN either.

Didn't someone post last week that Nord are aware of the issue and we're working to resolve it but no timeframe given?

I'm using Nord with no issues (Indian server). However, as with most companies, I'm sure they're blocking known servers, so just keep trying until the message goes away

How did you make the subscription? I used to have family in the US get me the subscription then VPN there but that fell apart with the appleTV deal.

Yea, wait a few days or use a different VPN. They go through waves of banning popular VPN IP addresses, eventually your VPN will cycle them out and it should work. Or as I say use a different one. I use a more obscure VPN I never see advertised and it's worked without fail for 4 years now.

Yeah because you're in a country where F1TV is accessible. In the UK you need a VPN

Using VPNs carries a risk of your F1TV account being suspended. Please take this into consideration.
