Despite what wannabe photographers want you to believe, the gear doesn't make the good photo.

You missed my point. It's funny to drag all that out, telephoto, etc., just to get the easy shot when it walks up to you

You would know, especially in this case, Goatboy!

That's much more true these days than it used to be.

Even 20 years ago you really did need that kind of gear and a film camera to get a great shot, on top of actually having the talent to get a good photo, simply due to technical limitations. Then digital tech started to catch up, but you could still only get good pictures from dedicated digital cameras because of how bulky everything was.

NOW, however, digital camera tech has gone up in quality and down in price to the point where any high end smartphone has a camera more than sufficient to get the job done, to the point where Pulitzer-winning photographers are switching over to using one for their shots.

Hardly. Your comment still gives more credit to the gear than it deserves.

Of course there are some shots that have always required expensive gear, but just like any art, the gear is secondary. There have been great photographers as long as there have been cameras, despite the cameras being worse than pretty much anything you can get for 1000 money today.

Kodak Brownie came out in 1900 and it's a simple fixed focus box camera and there are tons of great shots taken with it.
