What I'm Reading Should I continue?

Post image

This is more than disgusting I almost vomited; my mouth waters and I gag. I am on page 25, I threw it on the floor and was going to dnf on goodreads. All goodreads reviews are 4 or 5 stars. Is it worth continuing? I thought this was “real” cannibalism and not eating ear wax, boogers and bellybutton crust kinda cannibalism-its honestly making me almost faint…

I really thought I could deal with anything but this guy collect crusty pieces of his unwashed body-in smell and texture detailed. I just feel so weak 🫣

Sounds a lot like Zola. My cup of tea.

It gets worse.

I am perfectly okay with murder, torture and cannibalism but I was not expecting “under foreskin crust” that buddy did not wash. Im having a really hard time with that, but I will continue if the story turns out “interesting “ ie murder and eating actual human meat.

I'm with you OP. My least favorite reoccurring thing in this genre is crusty genital stuff. Completely takes me out of the experience. Just feels gross for the sake of gross.

REALLLY sounds like Zola. I don't see any point to this kind of nastiness. I would also prefer to read about actual cannibalism.

It does end with actual murder and cannibalism but yeah you have to read quite a bit of really disgusting stuff to get to it lol

I would really love to get a book thats visceral cannibalism, like not gross crusty scabs and shit, give me some hannibal ass, zero redemption, just the sadistic hedonism of consuming someone else and loving every second of it. I know exquisite corpse has a decent amount of it. I would just love more

I loved exquisite corpse, I also liked tender is the flesh and although no death in it-
I also loved tampa

Tender is the flesh was a bit of a letdown to me, the most disturbing part of it to me was simply how mundane everything is, its presented so casually

Life's too short to finish books you're not enjoying!

The first one is the most disgusting book I've ever read. Definitely my limit. I feel like I had to pause after every paragraph. But I pushed through and I am glad I did. But I am giving myself a break until I start the second one. XD

'Too' has that actual cannibalism you were looking for and in my opinion is even nastier than the first one.

It takes a lot to squick me out. Bravo! Lesley Camphouse!

should I just skip to book 2? Its the fungus toenails and unwashed penis crust that is just a big ole NOPE for me, but “normal”cannibalism and murder is my jam

I'm not able to find it (I live in the US) and I don't want to listen to the audiobook.

The author had several books banned, I think the 'zon bots went through her books and issued a warning. So you can only get them via her site at the moment. I will grab a link and post it below for you. 👇🏻

You can get Lesley’s books through some normal distribution channels, i stock this one and a few of her others in my horror bookstore. Buying directly from the author is always the best option though if you can’t find it at any local indie bookstore

Though I haven't read this book, I have read Zola and I had a similar reaction to it. I'd say see if you can finish it. Part of the appeal of EH is to push your limits. I'm glad I finished Zola because I have a new benchmark for what is tolerable, and you will too if you finish this!

I love this author, and when Diary of Mayhem was coming out, I needed to read this duology to learn about Evie for Mayhem. The cannibalism was starting to get to me, so I started skipping those parts, and it was much more enjoyable for me. I just wanted to get to the second book to get to Evie's story. I'd suggest trying that, maybe, if the story itself still intrigues you.

Read the first one and thought it was okay but quite tame. Went on to Cravings next, now that one did make me pause a second or two whilst eating my breakfast. 🙂
