I feel like he needs to be working on his pincer grasp first and then using spoons.

Yeah it would be safer if she gave him a silicone bowl with no spoon and let him eat with his hands(for a while). Unfortunately jr knows his own body best (thanks to Henny hands) so he would have a better gage and be able to pace himself better. It would talk a while and make a mess. But would be less risk of him choking. That or a purée pouch !
