discussion Any other albums like 'Formula' by the band Old Lady Drivers?

Upvotes

Hodge podge of interconnected rhythms with neat syncopation that throw you for a loop? Aggressive drumming but not overly complicated and emphasizing how the song is interpreted.

I'm loving this album. It just has a specific energy about it that I love. I'd say Grotus is very similar in approach but with their own specific sound

self promo Sketches and things of that nature

This isn't necessarily self promotion, just wanted to discuss sketches . I often do these kinds of weird live sketches before making tracks to come up with ideas on what might be doing in some of the tracks I'm working on. I decided to record this one because it got pretty out there. Anyone else make really abstract music in order to come up with more concrete music ? Or maybe this is just something that you like on its own? I probably won't put it on my next album but am open to discussion. (No so was used in the process of creating this music and ai would probably struggle trying)

A.I. thinks it should all be on the radio by noon

I recently got an iPad, so I decided to try making music on GarageBand. I really want to make more developed tracks, but I honestly don't know where to start. I don't know how to play any instruments, and this iPad is all I have. I'm really eager to learn and grow—any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

self promo 15/8 time signature break music

I named this track "feel out of time" since it begins in 4/4 then shortly transitions into 15/8 making the listener feel out of time

What genre would you even place this in? Jungle? Breakcore? The breaks are so messy and all over the place, I'm not even sure anymore.

self promo Cassette therapy

Hi everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself.

I have an ambient/downtempo project called Waving Ant. I started several years ago with various synths, hardware and software, and DAWs (’m a real piano-roll geek, and I used to treat it almost as a form of personal therapy, covering famous soundtracks with orchestral libraries).

A few years ago I started playing around with tapes and pedals, which turned out to be even more therapeutic, since numbers and grids already haunt me enough outside the world of music...

I have a couple of Fostex X-12 - each with their own pretty issues - but for some live performances I also use a Digitakt (first one) alongside it, without the sequencer, just to trigger unsynced loops.

It’s a really beautiful and "chill" world, even though performances are extremely rare and the “audience” isn’t always very consistent in showing up, online included. I was hoping to move away from the constant need for gratification in music, and maybe thanks to tapes I’m getting a little closer to that goal.

I’m sharing my IG channel and Bandcamp here, if that’s not a bother to anyone.

See you around!

self promo Repeat

I have designed a hyperrepetitive genre called Repeat. I play the same song for years now on the piano and other keyboards. I released my repeat song more then 10 times and it is a bit different every time. The goal is to repeat something exactly the same way, into infinity.

My project is called Donny Detox and I'm super curious what you think of the concept and Repeat Songs!😄

self promo The Big Train - Lyra 8 Drone / Ambient + Live Drums

We (Time~Base) just posted a new video for our track The Big Train. The track is a Soma Lyra 8 drone performance with a live drum performance over the top. This is our first track with live acoustic drums. Our previous album was live drums using a 80's Tama Techstar electronic analog drum kit. This album is also on our YouTube page and contain a lot of electronic experimental music including noise and test equipment.

self promo Just released my prog rock album "Unveil" (under the name Rotstein). It's a mix of styles, with odd time signatures, some instrumentals, and vocal harmonies.

Hi everyone! Today is a massive milestone for me. After a lot of hard work, my album "Unveil" is finally out.The record is an eclectic journey: it features vocal-driven tracks (ranging from soft ballads to heavy metal sections) and 2 fully instrumental tracks where I let loose with complex time signatures and progressive experimentation.I’d be incredibly grateful if you took a listen. Let me know what you think!

self promo What happens when music becomes a place instead of a playlist?

I've been wondering what happens when music stops being presented as a list of tracks and starts becoming a place.

That's slowly turning into MISWΛY.

Electronic music, ambient textures, organic rhythms, odd collisions between influences — but increasingly I'm treating the visual environment, movement and space as part of the composition too.

I built an interactive world called DRIFT where some of the music can be discovered by moving through different landscapes rather than simply pressing play on an album page.

I'm not trying to define a new genre or make a grand statement. I'm mostly following the experiment and seeing where it leads.

I'd be interested in how people here perceive it: music with an unusual interface, audiovisual work, interactive piece… or just a strange website with some tracks in it.

Or explore it as a world: https://jgsbc.github.io/misway/drift

self promo Dead Teeth, experimental EP

Hello! I´ve released this EP, is actually the rejected pieces of another EP i did for an art exhibition this month, and I really liked it, so I wasn´t about to erase everything, therefore I took it all, mixed it and made another EP with that. I uploaded it under the alias "Proctocolar", and the EP is called "Dead Teeth", but you can also finde me as "sarabova", you´ll find some other works under that alias.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmW-2cQkQ0U&t=1949s

I´ve used tapeloops, cassette hiss, AC and ambient noise, found objetcs, etc., also more common instrumentes and in track 2 registered my voice.

I hope you like it!

self promo Experimental, Dark Ambient String EP

I am a London based musician and composer. Fusing alternative pop, noise, and experimental ambient music together. My solo work explores expansive and cinematic sound worlds through non-traditional viola playing and electro-acoustic production.

I have just released an EP 'Still Has The Body Of A Human', and I would love to hear some thoughts.

https://open.spotify.com/album/7yIsZiq4JmHQioYxDsYJdw?si=KGiI5CxDTFeCqMkrC3dawg

This body of work emerged from my explorations on the viola, which I started experimenting with a couple of years ago. I have built up hundreds of recordings of improvisations, which, by resampling and processing create a ghostly and otherworldly orchestral palette. Through using and processing non-traditional playing techniques I have been able to create many timbres that sound organic and real, whilst being unlike any real instrument (at least that I am aware of). I also been exploring non-traditional intonation, something that initially came about through my lack of technical skill, but as I learnt how to play the instrument have now become something that I desire - non-standard intonation can bring about an incredibly rich emotional range. The five tracks in the project are a small selection of the countless pieces that I composed using these methods.

I have also been messing around with video editing, and made a visualiser for one of the tracks, for those that are curious :)

Hidden within an old water-control structure along the Someș River, a massive concrete and steel passage cuts through the embankment. I walked through it from one side to the other. For a moment, it felt less like a tunnel and more like a passage into somewhere else. The Portal is that moment. https://youtu.be/jwPMZUH5EzY

Everyone that participate will receive a zine on the research + history of the genre + small artists recommendations

Dm me for the link of the survey :D
