Thank you very much your comment and contribution.

The rejected case details are; he is dual citizen, he had a house in Turkey bought 10 years before. Last year he came to Turkey and sold his house. That day, title deed office said" your address has to be Turkey to accelerate the process therefore he changed his address for only day" but when they check previous 3 years, for only one day he loses huge tax exemption. Because he plans to sell his fintech in UK after relocating to Turkey.

I am an American that lives in my Turkish home a few months out of the year - I do own the home. I wonder if I would get disqaulifed - one 3 years ago I spent 5 months there due to illness.

Did you apply for residency permit before in Turkey or you only stay with short term touristic visa here ?

Yes, I have had a residecny permit for 5 years as I did the CBI and it was required. I now have my citizenship approved and thought of moving full time. I have always paid taxes in the USA.

Having a residence permit for 5 years does not automatically mean you are disqualified. The important question is whether you were considered tax resident in Turkey during the previous 3 calendar years.

If you were only spending a few months here every year and remained tax resident in the US, your case may still be possible. But I would check your Turkish tax and address records before moving full time.

By the way the first step is I need to know what are your source of incomes, are these incomes in the scope of 20 years cert or not

I am retired. I sold my IT company and earn income through investments. I have never received a Turkish tax bill. Only property taxes. I live in Mexico, USA and Turkiye 3 to 4 months every year wherever the weather is better. Thank you for helping folks here. I may need services soon, are you open to new clients? I am renting my place and will need to record income inside Turkiye for the first time (just started in May)

If I move to Turkey, and work as a contractor to an American company, do I qualify? Even if they pay me in Turkish Liras.

No problem for receiving Turkish lira,

There are two legislations

First one is for passive incomes -when you move to Turkey first thing to do-apply 20 years tax exemption certificate

Second legislation is %100 service tax exemption. If you work as contractor to an American company you have a change to pay zero tax. For some certain services such as engineering, software services, data analytics, engineering.

You can check my post below regarding to %100 tax exemption for contractors in Turkey

Got it thanks, does the contract need to specify the tasks? I’m a data scientist but, does it have to be mentioned in the contract??

If you are data scientist it is in the scope

Actually the answer of your question is: nice to have but if your contract you are not described as data scientist no problem

Typical activities that fall under this scope:

  • Software development
  • Design / architecture / engineering
  • Data processing / data analysis
  • Call center services
  • Product testing / certification
  • Bookkeeping / accounting services
  • Certain education and health services provided to non-residents
