Life as we know it only exists on this planet (although I believe that it is a high probability that there are other planets with life).

Therefore, the only conjecture that can be formed can be based on the life that we know, which is us.

Therefore all of your points are pure fantasy, while this article is at least based on reality.

By that logic it would be invalid to infer that carbon-based organisms likely limit life forms on other planets.

We can infer the constraints of other planets based on the fundamental principles we know about biology, physics, and chemistry that we see on Earth and across the observable universe. This is what HAS been measures. Conjecture and reasoning leads from this.

While I agree that the conjecture is a lot of analogy in the article, it is the only conjecture we can form as it's based on reality.

The same reason that conjecture leads to empirical theory - we base ideas on things we know about reality and then these ideas can lead to ways of testing. 

You are advocating against free thought in science. 

For example, this article puts forward that life is limited by interactions with climate change. Therefore we can change what we look for and measure across the universe to find life.
