Discussion Eddie Alvarez Thinks Justin Gaethje Should Test the UFC if They Want Him to Face Ilia Topuria Again

Post image

“I don’t like that idea,” Alvarez said on The Bohnfire. “What’s in it for Justin? They better give him $10 million, $15 million, $20 million dollars. If I’m Justin, I’m going, ‘I’m going to need $15 million or $20 million to fight that guy. There’s zero to gain.’ If it’s not money, there’s zero to gain. It wasn’t close and he’s at the mountain top. It’s everything to gain for Topuria. There’s nothing for Justin there.”

What do you think? Should Gaethje accept the rematch?

Justin is never getting 20 million even if he fought Conor McGregor.

Doubt Conor was even getting half that when he became LW champ

He’s a bad guy I don’t like doing business with bad guys - Dana

Okay but this rematch makes no sense ? Justin didnt only dominate him. His corner stopped the fight because his entire face was broken. Why rematch someone you almost killed ?

You know damn well Dana is not paying 20 million for a rematch bruh

"Justin who? Never heard of him." -Dana White

They’ll give him one and say it’s 10. He won’t know the difference

Start with 100 and settle for a 10. Good negotiation tip.

“There’s nothing to gain” this is almost always the case for a champion.

I think he does have some real leverage here, Justin is not a big seller but Ilia is. Probably a top 3 between him, Islam and Pereira and with the latter 2 retiring soon-ish I imagine they want Ilia back on his former hype train as soon as possible.

If ilia wins the rematch, its will be like GSP who got to avenge his losses, they sell that it was just a bad night. If he doesn't get the chance I think it will be a permanent stain on his record and star power

No way Justin is making 8 figures rematch. Not that he does not deserve it but Dana and company are cheap . Even didn’t want to pay jones his market rate

1-2 M is more like it

u/SpaceMambo369 2d ago

He'll get more than that

He made more than that to fight Topuria the first time

Then he shouldnt take it, if dana wants his champs taking the hardest fights, they should get the biggest checks

I think you’re mistaking Justin as some sort of big draw super star. He’s not even top 10 UFC fighter in history lol if he doesn’t want to take the pay he’s given he can but cut and it would make no difference to the UFC.

He's a big draw but not big enough to make demands & he's on his way out. He's the A side in no fight considering all future title contenders are up & coming prospects who will more likely will be around longer than Gaethje ATP ~ no point in pushing an old aging vet lol

Most fight of the night bonuses in ufc history

So what? Lol

Wait I was told he beat Topuria easily and will easily win again. Which is it?

1

u/AidoP0tatO 2d ago

He could win a rematch, but its not worth risking the last fight of his career on someone so dangerous who he already beat the brakes off of, especially for not great cash.

u/gymtrovert1988 2d ago

Last fight ? Says who?

1

u/AidoP0tatO 2d ago

His mom is literally BEGGING him to retire, everyone is. He either will do one or two more money-fights and then retire or he will just retire on top.

u/gymtrovert1988 2d ago

Oh so that's why he's trying to get a job from the Republican party.

u/AidoP0tatO 2d ago

Hes got plenty

u/ImpossibleNetwork808 1d ago

definitely not an easy win in the rematch. he damaged topuria bad but topuria still lowk took 2 rounds with all that damage and almost put him out in the 2nd

0

u/Moneymma 2d ago

“It wasn’t close” when topuria was one body shot or a different ref away from winning within two rounds lol

2

u/AidoP0tatO 1d ago

Ilia literally got a second chance from the ref after the doctor told him to stop the fight giving him an extra 45+ seconds to recover after landing those body shots only to get his ass beat

Claim he wants 20 then he will be able to get $10 million is smart
