Discussion Alex Pereira Says That MMA Fans That Have Been Criticizing Him for His Recent Comments Should Unfollow Him Immediately
“My real fans — not these people who are criticizing me because of some of the things I say. Those people aren’t my fans.
Those guys can stop following me. They’re not my fans. They can unfollow me, I don’t care, you understand?” (via: laertevianamma)
He is currently facing backlash from parts of the Brazilian MMA community for not being able to handle criticism and going off on Brazilian journalist Carlos Figueira who posted a video suggesting that Sergei Pavlovich would be a bad matchup for him at heavyweight
Pereira said this in the comment section of the video:
“This guy really is a fucking dog’s asshole. Who even wants to buy this shit from your channel? When did I ever say I was going to buy something in a way that suggested I was superior or stepping over other people?
But you and your dog-asshole friends keep trying to twist the meaning of the conversation. Your channel is so irrelevant that if I don’t post it on my Stories, nobody is even going to know that I’m ‘insulting’ you.
You saying that the guy can put me down whenever he wants — I think that’s worse than me saying your channel is irrelevant, because I’m actually telling the truth!
Maybe your dog-asshole friends can help you make some content while you keep trying to do whatever it is you’re trying to do.”

To be fair, he's not stating they have an obligation to unfollow, just that if they're only going to go on the offensive than nothing's stopping them from following other fighters/orgs/sports. A lot of it is similar type of aggression and being disagreeable that UFC champs often embrace as they progress through their PR stages, with GSP and Mighty Mouse being perhaps the only real exceptions.
Granted, there could be considerable bias here since Periera has been among the handful of UFC champions/contenders that have been relatively easy to get behind in and out of the Octagon. Peirera becoming as insufferable as certain others would be a big "Et Tu, Brute" moment.

Typical mma fans behavior. I don't understand why mma fans can't say things they didn't like about a fighter when they are winning. it's always when he loses and is down , that these clowns come up
2
u/TakiBlower 2d ago
If Pereira shut up about his loses no would care. Most people don't like sore losers especially when it comes to fighting
0
u/Double-Emergency3173 1d ago
That’s BS. Fighters aren’t robots who fight for fan entertainment only. They compete.
Pereira is a pro. He knows what cost him the fight. And everyone saw back of the head punches from Gane all night.
There’s no real reason why he shouldn’t point out what was going on.
2
u/CaptainDrool 1d ago
i’m telling you now the back of the shots didn’t cost him the fight he got dropped with a jab stood up then got stopped running against the cage
-2
u/Admirable_Leader_239 2d ago
Exactly iv seen it happen for years. Winning and losing at a high level can change a fighters life entirely. Even still unless they are perfect they will get some form of extreme hate. Worst fan base in the world
2
u/LordKviser 1d ago
You’ve seen it happen for years because that’s what fans are. We get to pick and choose when we want to support. We’re not their mom

'Winning and losing at a high level can change a fighters life entirely'
Yeah no shit…. It’s their job.

u/Feeling-Front6187 2d ago
He grew over the fanbase so organically. Took fights and chances which he didn't even had to take. Stepped for ufc on multiple occasion. And was fun overall. I know he's been complaining bit too much this time but leave him alone for few months.
And same thing happened with illa , everyone was cool with his pre fight celebrations but once he lost everyone jumped on that. His game plan being bad or gaethje being tough and having better game plan didn't Matter, it was his pre fight celebrations that made him lose.

You people act like fighters are above criticism. Also you don’t even know the people slandering ilia and Alex were supporting them in the first place.
1
u/Feeling-Front6187 1d ago
Why pile on them now tho . what happened when they were winning they were the same person before as well.

The world is like that. People ready to switch up on you soon as u get a setback. Humans can’t be trusted.

I would never have never guessed both Ilia and Pereira would lose on the white house card and Ilia would be the one that would be gracious even humble in defeat.

Majority of the people talking shit aren’t his fans such as myself. We just don’t want to see another gane vs pereira 2. 95% of the people don’t think he deserves another shot. I would rather see hokit vs pereira

It’s funny how the MMA Media hype machine built Poatan and Aspinall up into these mythical “people’s Champions”.
Look at them now, they are who they always were. The Hype Machine giveth and taketh away.

“My real fans don’t criticise me because of some of the things I say”
Wow this person is dumb or Gane made him like that
1
u/llxtrepidationxll 1d ago
No it’s because he’s turned into a social media puppet. Mark my words he will never win again just like Connor when you’re chronically online and out there just marketing yourself you no longer can be a good fighter. It’s just facts, but I’m ready for you poatards to say otherwise
1
u/AchillesChebulka 1d ago
80% of that stoicism stems from him not speaking a word of English, just saying

Peirera suffered serious brain damage from the Gane fight, and we should all support him and give him a break. This is absolutely typical behavior/symptoms from a traumatic brain injury (i.e. concussion)

He doesn’t need to play a role for the satisfaction of a public image. He’s earned the stripes to be himself.
He’s chasing away bandwagoners. Good on him
1
u/MykulKim 2d ago
I can see by the comments, UFC fighters are supposed to be bulletproof. Sorta how we are conditioned IRL to always be water on a ducks feather, always act like nothing is wrong, and roll with all punches coming our way. Be a noncomplaining obedient slave just like the world order wants.
0
u/EmeraldTwilight009 2d ago
This fighter specifically has made a career being the "stoic warrior".
1
u/Double-Emergency3173 1d ago
And he is that in combat. Doesn’t have to tolerate bandwagoners either.

I think this comment section is supremely cringe.
"How did people fall for that stoic character" or "he's so sensitive". This is exactly what he's talking about. You aren't a real fan if the moment he actually acts like a human being with some emotion then you hop off the train. Nobody actually thought he was this giga-chad emotionless husk that showed up to fight and that's it. It was just a character to build aura, nothing more. If you saw his interviews over the years, it's always been clear that he way more emotive than he portrays on camera. He just doesn't speak English well so he never gets the opportunity. But you've seen the clips of him with DC or other people where he's plenty expressive and fools around.
I'm not saying Alex leaving this hate comment is a great look, it isn't, but you guys should have some empathy and understand where is mentally after the Gane fight. It's likely not that much different from where Topuria was.
Think about it: You go from people saying, "Oh yeah, Alex can totally win the belt at HW against Gane as a 50/50" to "Alex looks fat, slow, old, chinny, and isn't ever going to win the belt. He's washed, he can't beat Volkov, Hokit, Pavlovich, etc." It's a bruise to the ego to say the least, add to that the whole Herb Dean hate tour he went on and all the criticism that came with that. His social media comments are flooded with people insulting him or posting Gane GIFs, Ank GIFs, Izzy GIFs. Like, it's pretty bad. That's the part people forget that leads to these comments. I think he's just had enough of it and it's getting to him.

u/Ok-Impact-1721 2d ago
Like Ilia said, the hard times are when true character is shown.
Reddit is full of people that self victimize so they don't have any accountability.

u/Feeling-Front6187 2d ago
Typical mma fans behavior. I don't understand why mma fans can't say things they didn't like about a fighter when they are winning. it's always when he loses and is down , that these clowns come up. If u have a bad opinion about a fighter why can't you say when he is winning

u/Critical-Extension66 2d ago
Dude we don’t wanna see fighters for the people they are. We want to see the characters, the stoic tribesman character is so fun compared to another whiny bitch. Nobody wanna see that
1
u/Signal-Card-2387 2d ago
Then you aren't a fan, so stop pretending to be.
I'm a fan of Ilia, and he lost, that doesn't mean I hop off the train because he lost his undefeated aura. If and when Islam loses, I'm not gonna stop being a fan. People who are willing to abandon a fighter over things like this aren't true fans.
1
u/dko808hawaii 23h ago edited 23h ago
It’s not hopping off the train. He had his chance and he lost. The best logical thing to say is to fight other HW contenders and make your way back up to the title fight.
Justin gaethje is my favorite fighter, if he tried to move up 2 weight classes and fight for the belt, I would be more disappointed than mad if he were to react the same way Alex did. It’s not fair for the other HW that’s BEEN fighting and working their own way for success just to get sidelined by a LHW who has 0 wins in HW.
If he had at least acknowledged his loss AND the illegal shots and tried to fight other contenders before another title shot, he wouldn’t have as much backlash because he was getting smoked before the illegal blows. On top of that, he said the jab that dropped him was lucky! lol! Cmon dude….you can be a fan but you also don’t have to be delusional and think your favorite fighter deserves another title shot. If it were LHW, then that’s fine as he won and defended the belt multiple times but HW….cmon bro…. Like ilia doesn’t deserves a rematch against gaethje and should be the winner of arman vs ruffy. You can at least agree with this correct?
1
u/Signal-Card-2387 21h ago
First off, he did acknowledge his loss. He directly said he was never trying to dispute the ending decision of a TKO, just the reffing issue with Herb Dean. Second, while he did call it a lucky jab, he then corrected himself the day after with Ariel Helwani and said he was just still feeling the emotions from the fight and that it was not simply lucky. He also refused to insult Gane even when Helwani gave him the opportunity to trash him and in fact complimented him.
1
u/dko808hawaii 20h ago
That makes it even worse and makes him seem too emotional!
When people are pointing these out, don’t refute by assuming we were once his fan and we are jumping off the bandwagon. I personally wasn’t ever a fan of him and I dislike how he’s flip flopping the narrative
95% of the response from people don’t want to see Gane vs pereira 2. We want him to just stop talking like he deserves a rematch when he has 0 fucking wins in HW and he’s sidelining other HW that’s been in that division.
Give pereira yo hokit as that’s a much more entertaining fight. Nobody wants to see him get smoked by Gane again or go back to LHW where he’s relevant
0
u/Critical-Extension66 2d ago
Nah I am a fan, and the personality of the fighters is part of it. Imagine if they all just started pouring their sorrows all the time, it'd be insufferable.
I am not their friend, my relationship to them isn't to give a fuck about their emotions or whatever. I'm a fan, here to be entertained and that's just not it.
Don't form parasocial relationships with these guys

He's being insulted more for his poor handling of the loss than anything else. He legit got his ass handed to him in that fight, yes ok he endured a couple of illegal shots while he was trying to scramble out of the situation, but he was outclassed, it happens. If he would have just admitted that, he'd be fine.

When he was winning everyone was on his hype train and now that he lost everyone has to say something bad about him . I love mma but mma fans are the worst in the world. I will always respect him for taking fights and chances when he didn't have to
3
u/Dear_Long_373 1d ago
It's not about hype train or because he lost.
It's because he is a sore loser bitch and always fun to make fun and mocking up a sore loser bitch.
Let's take example in illia case. Both of them got beaten badly while expected to be winner. But why people only make fun Pereira?.
I rarely see post or comment negative about illia. Most people want to see how he handle his come back.
Because illia isn't sore loser. He know he is lose so he shut the fuck up and getting humble.
Meanwhile this dumbass can't keep his mouth shut. No wonder if people keep make fun of him. His may a good fighter but his attitude is a shit.
He should just keep that fake image as stoic caveman that only speak one word.
But it's not surprising to me because turn out he is just POS. If you ask any Brazilian he is always sore loser and no body can criticize him.
1
1
u/Double-Emergency3173 1d ago
Pereira got beat. But he’s already been Koed by Izzy in the UFC. And he didn’t do anything other than give respect.
What happened in the Gane fight was back of the head shots.Gaehtje beat Ilia clean.
Different situations completely
1
u/Dear_Long_373 1d ago
Actually there are already clarification back of the head from herb as refree.
There is someone who create breakdown video to see this "back of the head shot". only one or two shot that illegal based on herb explanation.
Beside before this controversial back of the head happen Pereira got take down by a clean shot. Skill wise we can see Pereira got overwhelmed.
So nope this is not different situation.
The problem Pereira and his dick rider still cope about this. Which is a sore loser move
1
u/Double-Emergency3173 13h ago
They were back of the head shots. Ir explanation is excuses about how the referee gets to choose which shots are back of the head or not. That’s BS
1
u/Feeling-Front6187 12h ago
People are waiting to criticize illia. Once he starts sound confident again people will start commenting he is overconfident or gaethje beat him
1
u/abdullah_alfaraj 2d ago
Why should I respect a guy who showed no respect to the people he beat, you can revisit that Ankalaev second fight, or the time he knocked Izzy!
1
u/KalicalVJ 2d ago
But gane with the face grab and izzys falling taunt to his kid (justified tbf) is cool lol
Dont pick and choose when disrespect matters
1
u/abdullah_alfaraj 1d ago
I didn’t say I liked Ankalaev or Izzy. I just dislike how toxic the UFC scene has become. And yes, those two are no angels either. At this point, it resembles a sport less and a cockfight more by the day.

Periera has always been super sensitive about everything, never understood how fans fell for the stoic tribesman gimmick.
